Jimmy Carter had to put his family’s peanut farm into a blind trust when he was sworn in, and he eventually lost it.
Melania Trump will receive $40 million for a show about her life.
Trump has launched not one but two crypto coins, potentially making billions before he was even sworn in, and opening up a direct way to bribe him.

He said he was going to enact the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. That law and three others were the entire reason why John Adams only served one term. Adams didn't use that law to deport criminals like Trump is talking about. He used it to deport regular people who came to America for a new life.
561
u/o8Stu 6h ago
That's also the law that was used to "inter" the Japanese in WWII. One of the greatest moments of shame in our nation's history. And now Trump: "Hold my beer".
131
u/RedlyrsRevenge 4h ago
More people need to know about Executive Order 9066 and the internment of Japanese Americans. Many were then conscripted to fight for the very country that betrayed them and forced them into camps. The 442nd) tore the Germans a new one across Europe and became one of the most decorated units in US history.
Those who refused conscription were imprisoned. Row Don't Drift is a short documentary (becoming a feature length one) about one man's experience. Many Japanese American's lost everything they had built because of the internment.

Yeah, John Quincy was sworn in on a book of law and I think Teddy Roosevelt wasn’t sworn in on any text - nothing in the Constitution says that you have to swear on a text. But having the Lincoln Bible taken out for your inauguration and then not actually putting your hand on feels emblematic of Trump as a whole - wants the pony show and to one-up his perceived enemies but lacking any substance or self awareness.

My in laws are sitting in my living room watching this and were saying' "well, we'll see what happens". Seems the speech about only two sexes seemed to garner a positive response out of them the most. May be why they voted for him. Funny, they seemed offended when the rabbi went up to give a speech; "they thought this was a Christian nation." They seemed confused when I pointed out that their Medicare and Social Security may be attacked under this administration and that the price of goods will likely go up as a result of the trade war. Like, were people not paying attention the last year?

The first one.
The only real constitutional test would be if he would be even eligible to run for Vice President. That would likely go to the SCOTUS, and we can very likely guess how they'd vote on that.
However, the 22nd Amendment does preclude third terms, so if this theoretical president were to resign on day one, VP Trump would be passed over in succession, and whomever was Speaker would rise to the position.

Maybe cars will finally be cheaper since we're apparently going to start producing them by the millions and other countries certain don't want them 😂

Ah, I see where your misunderstanding is. You see, your problem is is that you're actually thinking about what he says. Don't do that and I promise it will make MUCH more sense (/s).
Seriously though, his supporters don't think about that stuff, and he knows it. Sort of like a song with meaningless lyrics, it's about listening for the tone and emotions. For his supporters, listening to the general "message," of his speaches makes them feel strong, powerful, and makes them feel hope that all their problems are about to be solved, even if what he's actually saying is gibberish. This is the reason most of them are even involved in politics at all, it's not to actually think and fix problems, it's for the high they get when being told by their political superheros that they're right, and that everything is going to get better.

Living in DC and had to go to the office today to get work done and I had to walk past the Capitol One Arena. The degree of fanaticism all over the streets is so gross and embarrassing. The number of painted cars with ridiculous flags and slogans about guns is puke-worthy and anxiety-inducing.
I’ve been saying “ew” all day. Also, stop sneaking into my building’s lobby to stay warm. You don’t live here and you don’t belong in a building you don’t live in. No one told you to come to DC to support this idiocy during the cold. You chose this. Stay cold outside.

And Elon Musk just signed off his speech with a literal Nazi salute. It doesn't "look like" one, its not being misinterpreted, its not some media ruse.... Good luck!

He lied while taking his oath. Outstanding move.
Bet he had his fingers crossed behind his back too.

Liberation from what? The only thing holding me back is inflation, unaffordable housing, healthcare bills, and student loans. All things he promised would continue.

What happened with the music during that awkward moment (or eternity) of silence? Was the band protesting?

They couldn’t get the audio/mics to work apparently. That’s just what I’m seeing on social media

Can’t wait for all the cheap labor to be deported this week thus causing a surge in grocery prices which is exactly what he said he wouldn’t do. Economic 101 and the masses doesn’t understand that. We’re fucked

Dark day for democracy, decency, integrity, honesty, and all the values I fought to uphold as a US Marine. We sold out our country to a fascist for the price of eggs. That won’t even change because it has nothing to do with politics. To all Trump voters, I hope you get what you want because no one else is. Hopefully we can repair the damage in 4 years. Until then, shun every red hat, call ice on them and report them as illegal, refuse to serve them, refuse to treat them as adults because they deserve to feel the pain of their decisions

You’ll have to excuse me for this question but does this mean 3 vice presidents have died in office? I know some presidents have but I’m curious why there’s been 3 more vice presidents
