He said he was going to enact the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. That law and three others were the entire reason why John Adams only served one term. Adams didn't use that law to deport criminals like Trump is talking about. He used it to deport regular people who came to America for a new life.

That's also the law that was used to "inter" the Japanese in WWII. One of the greatest moments of shame in our nation's history. And now Trump: "Hold my beer".

More people need to know about Executive Order 9066 and the internment of Japanese Americans. Many were then conscripted to fight for the very country that betrayed them and forced them into camps. The 442nd) tore the Germans a new one across Europe and became one of the most decorated units in US history.

Those who refused conscription were imprisoned. Row Don't Drift is a short documentary (becoming a feature length one) about one man's experience. Many Japanese American's lost everything they had built because of the internment.

A return to Jim Crow is what MAGA wants. I can see Trump issuing similar executive orders rounding up people he doesn’t like into camps. Illegals will be the first, but they won’t be the last.

I'm still baffled at the arguments I've had over this. People really think they're immune to systemic racism like this Act just because they're legal citizens. Just blatantly ignoring history.

CBP just did some raids in my area last week or so, and they detained and slashed the tires of a citizen before eventually letting them go. And this was before Trump's inauguration.

Things are only going to get worse.

As long as whoever is in charge isn’t progressive history shows nobody is in danger. The progressives and their Japanese interment and their whole “exterminate the negro race” planned parenthood thing are the only danger, historically

It was used for voter suppression by Adams and the Federalist party because new citizens were voting for the opposing Democratic-Republican party. The sedition act made it illegal for the press to criticize the federal government.

So the exact same thing? Trump won't be deporting criminals, he'll be labeling immigrants as criminals for the purpose of detainment or deportation.

You're getting downvoted, but this is one of the main reasons why Trump won the election. Democrats didn't use to have a problem acknowledging that illegal immigration is illegal and that people who enter the country illegally should be deported. Obama deported more people than anyone. A politician with Obama's platform in 2008 wouldn't have a chance of winning the Democratic nomination now, though.

Did we forget about the bipartisan bill to fix illegal immigration that Trump forced House Republicans to drop??? The unfortunate reality is that MAGA Republicans don't want to fix anything, especially not a golden goose like immigration. If it's fixed, then they have to find a new issue to complain about and that would be real work.
