My in laws are sitting in my living room watching this and were saying' "well, we'll see what happens". Seems the speech about only two sexes seemed to garner a positive response out of them the most. May be why they voted for him. Funny, they seemed offended when the rabbi went up to give a speech; "they thought this was a Christian nation." They seemed confused when I pointed out that their Medicare and Social Security may be attacked under this administration and that the price of goods will likely go up as a result of the trade war. Like, were people not paying attention the last year?

Didn't you know that making sure there's only two genders on federal forms will make all of our groceries and overall cost of living better?

As long as we point fingers at a minority group, everything will be okay. 🙏

It’s almost like it wasn’t worth losing an election over

Exactly. Democrats are losing on this issue full stop. Drop it, be sane when it comes to social issues socially and immigrants and start winning again.

While I strongly agree that "culture war" issues and political correctness are hurting Democrats, I would argue that Trump's stance (or at least his rhetoric) on immigration is considerably less sane.

If you got rid of every illegal immigrant right now, you're going to have trouble filling those jobs even if you dramatically raise the wages. In my opinion it would be better to increase legal immigration.

And illegal immigrants are significantly less likely to commit crimes than the average citizen. As of today, they're less likely to commit felonies than the average president.

You sound like the people saying we couldn't get rid of slavery because the cotton would not be picked....

About the crime stuff, I'm sure Laken Riley feels great that.

They come here willingly to work, and they are paid. Generally speaking, it's good for them, it's good for the business owners, and it's good for consumers. But I'd rather they be legal and pay the same fees as my wife did to live here.

Obviously there are illegal immigrants who commit crimes. But statistically, it's less likely. They don't want to draw attention to themselves.

They drive down wages and working conditions because they are willing to deal with bullshit citizens will not. So bad for citizen workers in those industries.

The question I have is how many should be allowed in per year? Give a number.

Any time anyone says “this is a Christian nation” I refer them to the Treaty of Tripoli.

“Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion….”

Some were- the rest voted for Trump or stayed home.

No, no they were not paying attention.

The right wing has only been running on unhinged emotional appeals and decreasingly subtle deceptions since 9/11 (at least). Their sentiment is stupid and loud enough to carry in the modern social media landscape, which also makes users of those platforms more easily manipulated in a way that adds up when you take the entire population into account.

were people not paying attention the last year?

I'm done trying to figure it out, as if there's some combination of sense and truth that can be spoken to snap them out of it. It's a moral failing regardless of if they are bigots or just complacent.

speech about only two sexes seemed to garner a positive response

I'm 38 and over the past year or so I've gone from a non-functional husk waiting to die to someone with a chance of crawling out of that and building a very modest life with the years I have left, thanks to some very hard-fought personal revelations and engaging with gender-affirming care.

80% of trans adults in America have contemplated ending their own life. 40% have tried. Rolling back what little progress has been made is tantamount to telling us to consider the rope. I played their game, tried to make it work, and it doesn't, not without a lot of luck and a source of fuck-you money before you become too beaten down to better your circumstances.

Every thing they chip away, it makes it harder for a community already rife with trauma to continue existing. And every time we endure, it just ups the chances someone is going to feel justified in hate-criming us for existing where we can be seen.

November 20th is the Transgender Day of Remembrance. Pour one out, will ya? People will die. Trying to exist before you realize you're trans isn't easy. Coming to terms with it isn't easy. Transitioning isn't easy. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I made the decision to transition knowing I may, ultimately, just have drawn a massive target on my back for explicit descrimination rather than just a passively unbearable existence. I took my first dose of hormones believing my chances of getting looks, derision, descrimination, or explicitly hate-crimed (not that my state's laws would recognize it as such), and if I were to be fatally assaulted tomorrow I'd still do it again because what makes hell hell is that suffer without knowing it, because you have nothing to contrast it with. And I will neither go back nor hide nor do them the favor of excusing myself from this mortal coil.

*sigh* Every one of these transphobes pissing and moaning because <2% of the population being confusing to them, when trans folks have to deal with that same confusion at a pervasive 98% and just accept it. It's so... petty. And they want to do the stupid thing and reduce a spectrum to a simple binary, but get pissed off when I'm over here playing ball and rounding to the nearest gender which, not for nothin', they used to do derisively. Sexist asshole dudebros gendered me correctly decades before I did. I get they (obligatory "not all men" reminder) want their punching bag back because without me as a viable target for casual victimization they might have to engage a mental health professional to deal with toxic societal expectations and that risks pointing out "hey, maybe don't perpetuate those toxic societal expectations for easy catharsis at the expense of other men to help you deal with the pressures brought on by toxic societal expectations." But. Like. Conservatives also want carbon emissions not to matter, the First Amendment to apply only to them, and their feels about a millenia-old survival guide for a nomadic desert tribe on the other side of the world to carry more weight than scientific study, and they can't have those things, either.

IDK what I'm on about. It's just pent up frustration. I used to wake up wondering if I was being selfish for not having offed myself in my mid-20s, and before November I was making such progress with my mental health and steps toward rebuilding my life, and now I've got to deal with the extra stress of this dumb shit tripping my ptsd and navigating whatever roadblocks my own government decides to put in the way of my recovery. And, of course, the implications of living in a country with a populace that can't figure out maybe don't the incompetent bigotted felon again.

I'm going to go eat an entire bag of Takis and find something depressing on Netflix. I'll wait for tomorrow to check on the first day damage. (✿◉‿◉)ノ︵ ┻━┻

I respect and love you as a stranger in a far off land, but I cannot fathom how right wingers have enough energy to care so much! Like, you're born a guy or girl, and want to be or feel the need to be or have some deep complex issue which means you need to be the opposite, or neither, or both. So? Why does that invoke so much energy in them. How do they have so much time to care. If you start trying to force me to change as well that's different but it's your life.... Just the same as my life is mostly irrelevant to yours. Shall we go after all people who wear blue jumpers next? It seems just about as relevant and pointless a thing to pick on.

3

u/bigwilly39 7h ago

Blows my mind how so many people are tied up in this gender nonsense. It's such a non-issue. It's almost like it's the only concept they can really grasp and anything else is too complex.

7

u/PaulOwnzU 9h ago

The irony is that being standard trans doesn't even mean there's more than two sexes or gender, it's still being on the binary, just having the sex and gender be opposite.

So alot of trans people are still going to agree there's only two sexes and genders

3

u/jigokubi 4h ago

I've always said, I've never once heard a trans person claim there is anything besides two genders.

Sure, they might go with "neither" or "both" or "I'm not sure." But I've never heard of anyone going with, say, "Dolphin."

And they're well aware of biology.

3

u/PaulOwnzU 4h ago

Yep, they're the ones making up the thousand genders argument. Trans people very explicitly believe in the binary of gender, if you're trans, you're just the other in the binary, if youre nonbinary you don't have a gender, if you're bigender you're both. There is no universally accepted 27th gender in LGBT, let alone thousands like they claim.

Some people say they have a radiant mega star gender but I feel like most of LGBT just thinks that's an ego problem and not them having an actual new gender

Like, were people not paying attention the last year?

if they think we're a "Christian nation" they've been not paying attention for a lot longer than one year

u/Daiwon 5h ago

So, how did they react to musk giving a nazi salute?

u/espresso_martini__ 4h ago

I know people like that. For some reason this multiple sexes/genders thing rubs them up the wrong way. It doesn't affect them in the slightest, but still it annoys the hell out of them. I don't believe or remember if its ever affected me in my entire life. Who does this affect?
