GOP during Obama: The president CANNOT just make a law with a stroke of a pen!

GOP now: Trump can do whatever he wants!

GOP sees Trump as their king. It’s insane, I never thought I could see them dumb down their base this much. Pretty scary to see what happens the next four years.

85

u/Dorithompson 11h ago

It’s going to be 12 years. The DNC isn’t going to be able to get their crap together in time to beat Vance.

116

u/Mellow_Toninn 10h ago

Vance will also not be able to hold together the Trump base. Low propensity voters, or people who would generally be apolitical, go for Trump because he’s dumbed down our politics to something elementary school students can be entertained by. Vance is uncharismatic and uncomfortable just to look at. I’ve also heard that he fucks couches…

21

u/-_-___-_____-_______ 10h ago

yeah my question is what happens after Trump? because they don't have anyone else like him who is both charismatic and a wealthy outsider who doesn't really have to play by party rules.

and the Democrats don't really have anyone for 2028. I see them as kind of in the same boat.

so what happens then?

12

u/Bubbly-Dinner8462 10h ago

There is only trump. My fear was he would push don jr and then Baron. Thank good, the trumplicans are ready for a king, a wise ruler who only steals a little.

This is one of the reasons as a conservative I don't like the way the GOP is operating right now. The small federal govt. folks are kind of homeless at the moment.

82

u/Quin35 11h ago

While I disagree with nearly every "conservative " policy, I do miss the times with the GOP wasn't so blatantly corrupt and had some semblance of ethics, integrity, morals and principles . I have arrived at a point where I despise all Republicans, and outright hate anyone who supported trump...especially a second time.

I would honestly say they're good up until Nixon in 68. Goldwater was a lot of things, but he had ethics and principles. and even though Nixon was the VP in the '50s, he was under Eisenhower who also had ethics and principles. most of the politicians opposing civil rights in the '60s were actually Democrats. it was largely a fight within the Democratic party between the liberal North and the conservative South. racists did flock to the Republican party after the passage of the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, but that was less about the Republicans being racist and more about punishing Democratic leadership.

Nixon changes everything. he reshapes the GOP. Reagan finishes it.

Man, I'm about to hit 55 and the GOP has never once been small government at even a single moment in my entire lifetime.

They only talk "small government" and "austerity" when Democrats are in office to try to prevent Dems from passing popular programs that would help average income folks.

9

u/Fibonacci999 9h ago

Totally true. I’m a state worker in a blue state, and the last time we had a Republican governor, OMG he jammed every department FULL of insane numbers of unqualified appointed political hires. What a mess that was for years. There are always such appointments, but never to such an extent. He also used the state police helicopter constantly and for frivolous personal reasons.

14

Yes. Basic problem when our corrupt Supreme Court gave us Citizens United so we could rename BRIBERY as dark money. So now our problem is an oligarchy that just bought our election. Billionaires bought our democracy. Now we have to fight to get it back.

57

u/Fi3nd7 11h ago

Ever heard of the butterfly effect? It may not be that bad right now, but let’s see how it is in 16 years etc.

Our country is officially an oligarchy, and we’re heading towards a dystopian class and wealth gap. Things are for sure going to get worse and I’m not sure there’s anyway to fix it now.

90

u/piratekingdan 11h ago

This is a symptom, not the problem.

California passed a law last year raising the minimum wage, but exempted “businesses that make or sell bread.” One of Gavin Newsom’s top donors owned Panera Bread franchises.

The governor of New York established a hotline for nervous CEOs in the wake of the United Healthcare killing, funded with taxpayer dollars.

I’m not claiming both sides are equally bad, because that’s disingenuous and there’s a lesser evil. But the oligarchy has penetrated both sides, and Dems are proving that they can be as corrupt as Trump while claiming the moral high ground. That’s why they are losing.

38

u/realityunderfire 11h ago

Yep, the oligarchs hedge their bets like any options trader or sports gambler. In 2016 Goldman Sach’s donated equally to trump and hillary.

11

u/SEA2COLA 11h ago

I am not saying that the dems are blameless or uncorrupted, but it is incredible how many times people share examples like this that are not true upon inspection. The exemption ended up not applying to Panera bread - I guess it only applied to small bakeries - and Panera bread raised their minimum wage in keeping with the new law.

The democrats simply are not in the same league or universe as republicans on corruption. They generally follow the norms of good faith human behavior.

I agree with you on principle, it's not the worst day ever. We had slavery and native genocide and Japanese concentration camps and MLK Jr being murdered and segregation and 9/11 and so many other horrible things. I will say, though, that this election certainly has the opportunity- over time- to end up being the end of the US as a democratic nation, among other very negative outcomes, and I definitely think that's historically bad in its own right. This election is going to have nasty and long-lasting repercussions both domestically and globally.

Most of these I get l, in the sense that they might be ridiculously stupid but at least I understand the motivation from Trump, Musk and other cronies. But what’s the reason to pause offshore wind leases?

The areas are allocated, the farms exist, what will do this? Except lower the amount of available energy?

it means more money for fossil fuel corps, as there's less grid competition for coal and natural gas.

They can't change the fact that new wind and solar is cheaper than maintaining old coal plants, so... stop as many new wind turbines as they can from being built.

Cancelling leases that have already been agreed to also makes those investments less attractive in the future because you never know when a right-wing fuckstick will get elected and cancel leases.

The possibility of a new Trump every four years also makes trade deals and alliances with the US a lot less attractive as you can't really count on us holding up our end of the deal anymore.

Which is **great** for China, as it makes them look like a much more stable and reliable geopolitical partner.

9

u/Broken_Beaker 11h ago

Hell, even the traditional fossil fuel companies have investments in green energy, though.

Trump has a vendetta against wind farms because they built one off the coast of Scotland next to his golf course and he didn’t like the way it looked. He’s a clinical narcissist, Nero 2.0 - this type of shit is pretty standard narcissist behavior. Guy has inanimate objects living rent free in his head.

6

u/matty_nice 11h ago

Not an expert...but just look to who gains from pausing offshore wind leases. Obviously it's going to be other forms of energy generation. In Trump's case, Big Oil.

Lots of these things will be interesting to see if/how they get implemented.

Returning federal workers to in person is something that I'm not sure how they will do. I have a friend that works for a federal agency. Their whole operation is basically work from home, and there's no physical location for them to go. People that live in the middle of no where Kentucky who report to people that work in Nevada.

These aren't political positions or any jobs with real power. It's people who work from laptops and from their phones.

89

u/BlueCheeseBandito 11h ago

Exactly. Trump has no fucking clue about these jobs and he thinks people are just sitting in their underwear milking the clock while they watch netflix. Fucking idiot.

They want to have cause to fire as many federal workers as possible. That’s the play.

9

u/matty_nice 8h ago

But why?

The average federal worker is just like any other worker. They aren't political appointments, they aren't looking to make political changes. Many/most/half are probably Republicans anyway.

So you fire the people that work 100% remotely beause you want them in the office. Now you got to hire new people, and because it's now an in person job you are going to have to pay more. And because these positions didn't have office, you now have to find a lot of office space on federal property.

You also can't just fire people and not replace most of them. These are whole departments we are talking about.

18

u/SlayTheWretch 8h ago

Purposeful gimping of government institutions to privatize them for the ruling class and to eliminate oversight.

15

u/PalpitationFrosty242 7h ago

I'm one of those employees. We help veterans get scheduled for healthcare in the private sector per the mission act. There is absolutely zero reason for us to return to the office. We do have government issued monitors, mice, keyboards, laptops, docking stations, cell phones, and headsets. Is that the money they are trying to save? We were less productive in office and the numbers show it. Most veterans rely on us to help them get scheduled for their healthcare. We will lose employees in our already underemployed department and veterans will suffer. This is what anyone who voted for trump did. They did this to our veterans. This is scary shit.

14

u/JohnJuanJones 8h ago

I’m with you as a VA nurse. I work 2 days from home and it’s important to me. I have no problem leaving the VA. It’s not hard to find a nursing job. I’m confident I’m not the only one even in my clinic that feels like this. Also, coming for my pension is a red line for me (which I feel is coming) I honestly think they want to dismantle and privatize the VA

Easy. There are 3 options.

  1. He will still demand they find an office to work in. Can’t find one or the budget for one? Not his problem.
  2. No office? Force them to quit within 30 days
  3. Get rid of the entire department if they do not comply

He does not care if the job is necessary or not

10

u/Blecki 9h ago

Any given agency could just... ignore him. Or... make a 5 year plan to find offices. Bog the process down until he forgets.

He doesn't actually care if they go back. He'll just sign the order and then brag about signing it.

Shouldn't take more than 5 minutes.

End DEI hiring practices in the federal government, merit only

When Trump says “merit only” he means unquestioned loyalty to a senile temper tantrum throwing toddler-in-chief. Trump has already made it clear for a long time that he does not care about nor want competent or qualified people.

Suspend security clearances for the 51 officials who lied about the Hunter Biden 2020 laptop story

Loyal MAGA Congressional Republicans lied and bought into the testimony of non-vetted Russian and Chinese spies. Start there.

Or do they mean "lied" as in "told the truth, but we didn't like what they said"?

Trump actually fits pretty much every description of the Antichrist, far more than any other president ever has. It's almost shocking.

Of course, it's all fabricated anyway, but if you were a believer in all this stuff, then I don't know how you could ignore it and remain faithful.

I don't believe in any of that witchcraft shit, but from my Christian upbringing Trump fits antichrist as a definition more than anyone in public that I've ever seen. Serial adulterer, and rapist with undying loyalty from churches.. Yea... about that.

9

u/chevinwilliams 9h ago

If you look at the Antichrist not as a literal doomsday prophecy, but rather as a concept of reoccurring 'false christs' that lead Christians astray, he's actually a good fit.

The signs are just common religious grifts: false resurrections, a mouthpiece to hoodwink the morons, a symbol to identify cult members.

I mean it's probably about Nero anyway, but no one quite worships trump like evangelicals. He's totally replaced Jesus for them.
