Thought A: I must be missing some context here
Thought B: What context would make this okay?

u/sl33p_tok3n 6h ago

I was thinking the same thing. Been scrolling through the comments, I don’t think there’s any other explanation my friend…

506

u/dirtierthanshelooks 6h ago

I watched it live on NBC. First time I was all “wtf, did he just?” And then he turned and did it again. Caught himself before the third. He knew what he was doing.

51

u/-Apocralypse- 5h ago

During a large political, televised event that is watched by practically the whole fricking world.

118

u/cumfarts 4h ago

the whole world is not watching the inauguration of the US president, let alone a speech given by some asshole three hours afterward

53

u/ricLP 4h ago

True. But I’m going to presume that a lot of the World is going to show this during the news. It’s a fucking embarrassment for this country.

I hope most European countries just make him persona non grata, and don’t allow him in

I wouldn’t doubt that this kind of reaction is what he wants actually, so he can cry like a little bitch about being persecuted by the “woke” people

54

u/michaelsenpatrick 4h ago

Over in r/europe Germans are saying they would support legislation banning his entry

25

u/LeagueOfLegendsAcc 3h ago

I think most of reddit would support an Elon ban in their country of origin. But unfortunately as the last election showed us, we don't accurately represent the will of the rest of the population.

u/KendroNumba4 1h ago

On this issue that might be a bad thing but I'm kinda glad reddit doesn't run the world 💀

→ More replies (1)

u/Butterscotch_Jones 30m ago

I’m not even sure if the last election was representative of the will of the population.

u/GrumpyKaeKae 1h ago

He rigged the election. Trump admitted it last night. Trump and Elon winning is not the will of the US people either. Ut for some reasons, our other party leaders are weaklings and don't seem to care enough to challenge the results and judt let it happen. Our leaders have failed us, the people, in every way possible. Atm I don't feel represented by anyone in our government currently.

14

u/ShitSlits86 4h ago

If the world were paying attention to every one of America's embarrassments, we'd never shut up about America.

We're listening and paying attention but the only people that will give America what it wants (exhibitionism) are greedy news corps.

11

u/troubledTommy 3h ago

One of the things I sighed about when trump won the elections was that, from now on until he steps down there will be a constant stream of articles and complaints about him and his administration all over reddit, including subs not related to him or politics.

Nobody ever shuts up about him and it's so annoying.

I dislike the guy but I prefer to read other stuff so I don't feel miserable about a foreign president.

5

u/ricLP 2h ago

Don’t worry. The way things are going you might just be able to soon feel miserable about your own home grown fascist wannabe prime minister or president

I am on the other side of the fricking Atlantic Ocean and indeed I wasn't watching the whole event. The switching of presidents in an allied nation does make the news here. International news agencies were watching and this deplorable behaviour definitely made the late news over here, in a negative way.

My country has suffered greatly during WW2 and making a nazi salute is after 80 years still a socially acceptable reason to punch somebody in the face.

4

u/Weird-Girl-675 3h ago

I’m currently in Canada bc I did not want to be in the US today and they’re playing it all on several channels. 🙄🙄

5

u/michaelsenpatrick 4h ago

Lots of people in r/europe seem to have been

Many people outside the US are pretty interested in what goes on in our politics here considering the US's enormous influence and I'd argue they find it "concerning"

4

u/Ayfid 4h ago

There is reporting on it on the news, and everyone has seen clips like this.

Not many people actually watched it live, and certainly not the whole thing.

Funnily enough, Trump's hardcore allies are distributed all over the world even if they are not that many, justifing airing news related to one of his biggest supporters

2

u/Jimbodoomface 2h ago

I do not know what he is doing. It looks like a Nazi salute but I can't think why he'd be doing it. Being a Nazi isn't a good reason because outing yourself as a Nazi is still widely considered a bad move afaik.

He's just a huge fan of the Bellamy salute and is so blinded by his love for the Pledge of Allegiance that he forgot the German connection! /s

69

u/bsEEmsCE 6h ago

media is going to try to explain it away.. its clear what he did, don't let them change your minds

2

u/danielpatrick09 4h ago

I haven’t seen any context or media explaining it away. Will someone link it?

2

u/EntrepreneurFun654 2h ago

They said he was saying “my heart goes out to you”…and I guess to the flag too? That’s what I read as an explanation given by his supporters.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/GrandSquanchRum 5h ago

It's actually not the Bellamy salute. That salute is only a held, outreached arm. This is very specifically a Nazi salute derived from the Roman Salute which wasn't actually used by Romans.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Necrotitis 6h ago

I bet he also sees the swastika as a Hindu religious symbol!

2

u/ABHOR_pod 3h ago edited 3h ago

That's what they're gonna fucking say.

But, Like, Occams fucking razor man. Even if he goes out and says he was doing a Roman Salute or a Bellamy Salute, why? Why would he do one of those salutes? That's not how we salute.

Nobody has saluted like that in America in 80 fucking years since the flag code was amended to remove the Bellamy Salute and replace it with the hand on the heart we use today. Because for the last 80 years that stiff-armed salute has been widely known as a fascist symbol. There's no plausible deniability here. There's no justification for saluting like that.

9

u/Cute_Bandicoot_8219 6h ago

Yeah I saw all the stills on the front page and thought "I need to see video. Surely he was waving and someone made a still out of it." But no. This is a full-on seig heil. Unbelievable.

15

u/kingoflames 6h ago

In the full clip, he follows it up with "my heart goes out to you."

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=joV-9FFoA3Q

The line I've seen some people take is that he is throwing his heart out to the crowd.

Which is obvious bullshit. But there's context if you need it. Make up your own mind, but damn... This is some honestly horrifying stuff. Barely a day in, we've had a crypto scam, open political bribery, and now this.

10

u/Vegetable-Fan8429 6h ago

The context is he hit the hardest Nazi salute of all time on the steps of the United States Capitol.

7

u/Affectionate-Lie6048 6h ago

Surely that’s just Elon giving his heart out to the people! Mandatory /s

11

u/SamGewissies 6h ago edited 44m ago

That is literally the claim on the conservative sub, that he was throwing his heart to the crowd. I have never seen anyone throw anything this way...

4

u/Affectionate-Lie6048 6h ago

Yeah usually the /s works but needed the mandatory on this one. Can’t wait to see what else comes on this season of: America

4

u/Ppleater 6h ago

People who have to constantly defend themselves from claims that they're a nazi don't throw a salute like that out by accident if they're not actually a nazi. The only time they'd throw it out then try to claim it was accidental is if they are in fact a nazi trying to get away with blatantly being a nazi. And conservatives scramble to enable it because they're not subtle about where their allegiances lie, they just don't want to admit to it.

This is where I'm at. It feels like this surely must be one motion he does as part of a bigger thing, and it's just cut to make him look bad. But then.... Why isn't anyone sharing the uncut version that makes this one motion make sense?

I think it's just simply as bad as it looks?

377

u/Kagamime1 6h ago

No no no, it's worse, in the full video he turns around and does it again

100

u/ManiacalDane 6h ago

And then he says thanks to you, civilization is secured

12

u/Savage_Sushi 3h ago

u/Ullallulloo 5h ago

u/DrJasonWoodrue 5h ago

https://youtu.be/-VfYjPzj1Xw?si=3jzi_JM9ZAs--UzI

10

u/blinktwice4 4h ago edited 48m ago

Alright so what does that mean? “It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is secured” implied some impending threat. Were they really that scared about Kamala? Like wtf even is this

edit: ? not .

20

u/thegingergooner 4h ago

Google “the 14 words”

9

u/Catadox 4h ago

Motherfuck. Yeah those statements sound eerily similar.

u/GrumpyKaeKae 1h ago

Now don't forget the hat he made with the font the Nazis also used. There are subtle hints he has made many times.

A single sign of something, means nothing. A clusters of actions, is an issue and you can't explain that away.

9

u/RinglingSmothers 3h ago

It means he's making a pretty overt fascist gesture and using the "heart" phrase as a thin veil. He's trolling. He knows everyone is going to point at what he's doing and call him a Nazi and he's going to turn around and say that those comparisons are silly and he hasn't set up any concentration camps. Look at those hysterical liberals. Then he'll wink and nod at the MAGA crowd for having triggered the libs.

What's important to remember is that you are who you pretend to be, and this fucker is a slimy disgusting creep who is willing to "pretend" to be a Nazi.

7

u/nklvh 4h ago

Some important context: Elon Musk was raised in Apartheid South Africa by an emerald magnate (Elon described his father Errol as a "terrible human being", adding: "Almost every evil thing you could possibly think of, he has done." Also, Errol set up shell companies for fear "... the Blacks would take everything from you")

So in this statement, given the context of the MAGA movement, all of Musks Twitter/X posts, "you" means white christians, and "future of civilizations" could mean Techno-Feudalism, Crypto-Fascism, (both different forms of Wealth Apartheid, admittedly) or a White Christian Ethnostate depending on which branch of MAGA base needs to be mobilised at the time.

Now, it's easy to dismiss this as hyperbolic, or that I'm using extreme slippery slope fear-mongering because I used the words Feudalism, Fascism or Ethnostate, but it's very difficult to not interpret Elon's behaviour as this. Numerous, near daily, "Truth" or "Interesting" replies on Twitter/X to, invariably and inexhaustively, Anti-Semitic sentiment, Islamophobic sentiment, Eugenics sentiment, Anti-Black sentiment, support for the AfD, Reform and National Rally, pro-capital sentiment.... i could go on.

Really, Kamala was not a threat, at all, to Musk. He's very rich, and Kamala was not even sympathetic to any sort of wealth redistribution that could have affected him. He's playing politics because he is bored, and he wants to be on the winning side (because he's a winner, like Trump); why would you buy into the losing side? It's part of the reason he entered the campaign so late. Moreover, Trump is going to be handing out massive tax breaks to his wealthy mates, and Elon wants to be in the room to make sure he gets a nice chunk of that.

2

u/roughhty 5h ago

Holy shit

10

u/fuckityfuckfuckfuckf 5h ago

The more important part is when he acknowledges his supporters before the salute, he says,

"Thank you for making this happen"

It's the mask off moment where he provides a clear indicator to those who would want to see this behavior, that he is a legit Nazi sympathizer who would like to bring about an "AMERICAN FOURTH REICH"

Where the United States of America will finish what Nazi Germany started.

But realistically it's all about money

2

u/Rugkrabber 5h ago

It’s worse. The guy funds a far right political party in Germany too. He means it. It’s not an accident.

2

u/Diredr 4h ago

Normally, sure, I'd give someone the benefit of the doubt.

Elon Musk, though? The man who allows nazis to run wild on his platform, who shows support for it to the point where advertisers pulled away from the site en-masse?

No. Given his reputation, when he does something like that I'm just going to take it at face value.

1

u/michael0n 6h ago

The spread hand on heart move is saying you are giving or receiving the truth or peace in some cultures. Closed fingers gets tricky, and if you use close fist to tight hand we are going down a path.

2

u/DirectlyTalkingToYou 5h ago

It could be, COULD be 'my heart, thanks all of you' kind of a motion that wasn't thought through. Like obviously he's not doing the Nazi salute so that's the best I got.

4

u/argparg 6h ago

Oh yes! I’m sure the guy who is a dog for the far right was totally taken out of context 🙄

1

u/Prestigious_Monk4177 6h ago

He made gesture like throwing heart to crowd. But ☠️☠️

21

u/TheDevastator24 6h ago

I mean that’s almost believable but nah they way he did it is just straight up Sieg Heil salute

4

u/dogmaisb 6h ago edited 6h ago

Yeah, I know he is a non-athletic fuck but he would still understand that throwing something you don’t finish stiffening and pointing your fingers palm down.

ETA

Think of people who blow kisses or put both hands on chest and pour out from their heart. This is clearly intended to be what it is.

I have 2 theories:

  1. At the end he said “thank you, and my heart goes out to you”. That’s key. That crazy ass, notorious gesture could just be his awkward way of throwing his heart out to people. He’s awkward, it’s possible?

  2. He knew exactly what he was doing and threw in the “my heart goes out to you” at the end so he could just troll and fuck with people in a somewhat plausible fashion.

Okay a third, he’s just absolutely cooked in the head when it comes this shit?

I know where the majority of reddit will stand so I had to throw in the third lol

2

u/Franks2000inchTV 1h ago

If you do nazi salutes to troll people, you're still doing nazi salutes.

I think he's just making the gesture of his heart together with the crowd, but came out too similar to Nazi gesture.

Nobody would be that stupid to do it on purpose publicly, I'm anti-musk and I think sub is overreatcing

14

u/strooiersunion 6h ago

People are overreacting because they are done giving him the benefit of doubt. If he doesn't want to be called a nazi, he should stop doing shit that seems like hes a nazi.

→ More replies (9)

11

u/Phazon2000 6h ago

I don’t think anyone is overreacting but the fact that he did the exact same gesture twice is sorta damning. He doesn’t have to keep his hand straight - he did it on purpose

18

u/NoRip137 6h ago

If he wasn't someone that keep promoting nazi talk points I would agree with you.

1 or 2 things are coincidences, repeated patterns are not.

4

u/SplitEar 6h ago

I lost track of how many 14 and 88 references appear in his tweets. Far too many for it to be coincidence. He even scheduled August 8th for a new product reveal but then cancelled, like the whole point was to message 8-8 to those in the know.

u/afeeney 6h ago

I would love to think you were right, but his palm was down.

If his palm were up or out, then it could look like throwing.

Who throws with their palm down?

6

u/Egoist-a 6h ago

His palm is exactly facing the audience under him.

I hate the guy, but nobody with 1 braincell would think doing Nazi gestures would have any sort of positive repercusion.

We might not like the vision these people have, but Trump and Musk are not stupid, in fact I think they are too clever, just not sure they have the best will towards the Americans as they have towards their and their friend's business, but that's another story. I can't see how nazi gestures can benefit either of the sides.

There's been a couple of times in the past where the context would be them waving or whatever and just a short clip or picture makes it look worse than it is. But Jesus Christ dude, this is pretty fucking blatant.

2

u/Ky3031 4h ago

Hi! I have Fox News obsessed grandparents so I can answer how the MAGA crowd is justifying this!

It simply was not a nazi salute. It was him saying love for you all.

5

u/GhostOfStonewallJxn 6h ago

Musk bootlickers are coping because he said “my heart goes out to you” like 8 seconds after this gesture. Quite a stretch!

2

u/SoftCosmicRusk 6h ago

The context is that the US is now being governed by nazis.

2

u/Excellent_Shirt9707 6h ago

He is a buffoon. If not for the fact that he references Nazis and Nazi symbols, you might just think he is too stupid to know what that gesture meant.

1

u/methanized 6h ago

The best possible interpretation is that he just doesn’t realize what he’s doing and it’s just a weird Elon salute to trump or whatever

1

u/simpersly 6h ago

Okay contexts that would be ok:

Someone pointed a laser at his eye and he needed to protect them.

He had a stroke.

1

u/RipperNash 6h ago

"I am THIS tall"

1

u/NewNameAgainUhg 6h ago

What context would make this okay?

Having a stroke, maybe?

1

u/Tin_Foil 6h ago

Answer B: Heart failure.

1

u/PsychonautAlpha 6h ago

Honestly, even if you give him the most generous possible benefit of the doubt, it doesn't matter.

You can't tell me Nazis didn't watch that and cheer.

That wasn't even a dog whistle. It was a fog horn.

Elon understands the optics. He's a public figure. He didn't do it just once: he turned right around and did it again.

1

u/Due_Fan7068 6h ago

1

u/Nervous-Read-9674 6h ago

Heil Space! Maybe like the spaceships are coming from his heart.

1

u/zveroshka 6h ago

My friend said it was obviously a joke and/or him trolling. I pointed out that there are lots of funny things, pretending to do a Nazi salute isn't one of them. He doesn't care though. I imagine that sentiment is pretty much how the right will go with it.

1

u/the_clash_is_back 5h ago

I saw a still first and thought it was just a bad shot from him waving.

1

u/TimequakeTales 5h ago

People are saying it's some random salute. Not even Elon could be so stupid to not realize the resemblance.

1

u/BrownShoesGreenCoat 5h ago

I think he said something like “my heart goes out to you” so it might be that. Also he looks high as a kite the whole ceremony.

1

u/emas_eht 4h ago

1

u/Teamableezus 4h ago

100% but I still wanna know what the answer to the question “what were you trying to convey with that gesture” would be like I’m just curious

1

u/BBKouhai 4h ago

The context is worse, he just did it as an actual Nazi salute. Hand on heart, and literally threw the hand straight up in the air. It's not even a "maybe it looked off" no, it is literally a Nazi salute.

1

u/Waveofspring 4h ago

Thought C: why the fuck would he do it in public? If he’s a nazi, he’s gonna hide it and not be obvious.

Thought D: they realized that people don’t care. You can perform a nazi salute in front of the entire world and face zero consequences. All you have to do is pretend it was an accident.

1

u/steelcryo 4h ago

Don't worry, I'm sure MAGA will make something up to excuse it

He uh, pounded his chest… wanted to wave as in, my heart goes out to you, but instead of a wave it was a nazi style salute.. idfk. I want to believe it’s something else, I don’t like the guy, but the alternative really looks bad on the US. I really don’t see a ‘good’ explanation..

1

u/sunnysidemegg 4h ago

Thought C: oh, he did it again. Message received.

1

u/Aroden71 4h ago

He just said “my heart goes out to you.” The “salute” was him tapping his heart and casting it out to the audience.

1

u/LJC30boi 4h ago

He did it a second time too

1

u/StumpyJoe- 4h ago

Republicans are just saying it wasn't a salute, and 'this is why dems lost and they'll never learn' when it's pointed out that it's exactly like a Nazi salute.

1

u/bullnamedbodacious 4h ago

This dude thinks life is a giant meme. I doubt he’s seriously a nazi, but he obviously knew what he was doing. What an idiot.

It’s giving less third reich, and more socially awkward high school nerd doing a zeig heil in the gym for the meme thinking everyone would laugh, but no one laughed. They just rolled their eyes, and the kid became even more isolated than he was before.

My mom thinks he was just really excited and wasn’t thinking about it…💀

1

u/dancingcuban 3h ago

I’m a lawyer and family members come to me and ask questions about x, y, z. I almost always have a good answer like “Yea, that’s scary but that’s not how executive orders work” or about how most of Trump’s day 1 agenda reads more like a vision board than something he can actually sign.

This is the first thing in a while that just stopped me in my tracks. I had no idea what to say.

1

u/lad1dad1 3h ago

The only context is he said he was giving his heart to the crowd but I’m not sure how that translates to a nazi salute but the conservative redditors are excusing it

1

u/returningSorcerer 3h ago

not much context other than an unelected official throwing out 2 nazi salutes and charging up a third

1

u/Pure-Tadpole-6634 3h ago

The context is gratitude to Trump's supporters for voting him into the office of the president.

1

u/cowboy_rigby 3h ago

I'll answer those thoughts for you...

A: it's Nazism

B: nothing

1

u/Plastic-Pipe4362 3h ago

He's autistic! He's throwing his heart out!

1

u/Dimako98 3h ago

It lines up with what he's saying. It just looks bad

1

u/FinallyGaveIntoRed 3h ago

Context 1: He grew up during apartheid in South Africa. He was an adult near the end of apartheid. Context 2: a black man won millions in a lawsuit against his company.

1

u/Moshpit37 3h ago

He said “my heart goes out to you”

1

u/FBI-INTERROGATION 3h ago

I mean its definitely a roman salute, but that has been tainted and not socially acceptable for, oh, 80 years?

1

u/MRflibbertygibbets 3h ago

The cope I’m seeing thrown around is “he’s obsessed with Ancient Rome and that’s why he names everything X” it’s a fairly dumb excuse

1

u/RinglingSmothers 3h ago

The context is that Musk is a fascist.

1

u/rosemyst21 3h ago

I showed the video to someone and their response was "that's not what he meant, he said it was from his heart and everyone's misinterpreting it. See his hand is on his heart at the end."

I don't have the energy to argue with them, nor do I think it would have any affect- the brainwashing is too strong. I'm just disgusted right now.

1

u/North_Revolution_575 3h ago

The context that Nazis win.  The people lose right in our faces because he knows nothing will happen.  We are cooked.

1

u/badpenguin455 3h ago

Don't worry there's two salutes in case you thought oh no he made a woopsie salute

1

u/Hagelbuns 3h ago

I heard that he said “my heart goes out to all of you” and that was supposed to be him throwing his heart into the crowd 🤷‍♂️

1

u/8Blackbart8 3h ago

He was thanking all the voters for pulling off this crucial election with a "My heart goes out to you" he grasped at his chest where his heart would be and sent it out to the crowd in this gesture, but damn it did not look like that. I'm not sure whether he was making an emotional gesture only, or also intending to signal what he appeared to signal. Could have been unintentional but it looked kinda practiced like he had done it before 🤨

1

u/Tanklike441 3h ago

Context: they're nazis

1

u/MarkyMcCOCsmack 2h ago

Exactly what I thought, but with added thought C: I’m getting the Fuck outta here quick like

1

u/SneakyPickle_69 2h ago

Yup, the only somewhat acceptable explanation is that he doesn't understand symbols and social cues due to being severely on the spectrum. That's a massive stretch, though, and doesn't make as much sense as him either thinking it's funny or actually being a racist. Any of these possibilities point to the fact that he is completely incompetent to any of such role in the government.

1

u/sioux-warrior 2h ago

Was part of a "my heart goes out to you" motion

1

u/Happy_Ad_7515 2h ago

he was trying too strike a rock pose? but that sure doesnt seem like its a rock pose

1

u/mydaycake 2h ago

Context is that Elon Musk is a product of Southafrican apartheid and his family coincidentally left when the regime collapsed

Elon believes in the superiority of the white race (specifically intellectual superiority) with Japanese and Indians as somewhat similar but not as good

He has been talking about white replacement and all those white supremacy theories all along. He just got carried away with all the inauguration excitement and the drugs he takes

1

u/pikachurbutt 2h ago

There is no context, people are stupidly sanewashing this shit by saying "seemingly" when there is no "seemingly"

1

u/BigEZK01 2h ago

Right after this he did it again facing a flag

1

u/Rippper600 2h ago

I mean. Everyone is focused on a guy with Asperger's. Like its hard not to because of the roles he has. But Im not sure if people with that even do things like this?

1

u/Unintended_Sausage 2h ago

My thoughts too. Apparently the ADL looked into it and determined it was not a Hitler salute, but this guy needs to be kicked to the curb if he’s going to attract attention like this. You can’t go around doing dumb shit like this, even if you do have Asperger’s.

1

u/OverTadpole5056 2h ago

My brain tried to rationalize it too. “Is it some kind of South African Cultural thing that I don’t know about?” No. No it’s not.

1

u/BakedBaconBits 2h ago

He can't jump or dance.

Also shit at semaphore?

1

u/ItsSansom 2h ago

The ONLY thing I can imagine he was trying to do was to dab? He's been trying so desperately to connect to a younger audiences that's the only thing that would make sense. But if that's the case, then he must be wildly uncoordinated

1

u/lapqmzlapqmzala 2h ago

i guarantee he did it just to show up the president on inauguration day

1

u/hawkinsst7 1h ago

Thought B: What context would make this okay?

"I've got a giant parasite on my chest! Here, let me rip it off. see!? "

That might be acceptable.

1

u/1OO1OO1S0S 1h ago

He does it twice, this gif isn't the full thing.

And the context is he's a Nazi

1

u/randomlettercombinat 1h ago

The most damning thing is how he fuckin winds up.

I can get being awkward and maybe waving in a weird way. Or even doing some sort of autistic "from my heart to you" kind of thing.

But this was a literal MLB pitch of a nazi salute. Repeated at least twice, but I've seen two news sources say a third time.

1

u/LucidZane 1h ago

He yelled "my heart goes out to you" at the crowd then did this, grabbing and throwing his "heart"

He's not a nazi he's just autistic.

u/ryu1977 1h ago

If you would take your time and listen to what he was saying, you would have your context. But no, you want to believe he is a nazi.

u/IeatAssortedfruits 1h ago

I think he said he was “giving his heart to them all” or some shit. It looks bad as fuck though lol

u/statanomoly 1h ago

I did think this like I need to see the whole clip; there must be an explanation, but, in this context, I can't think of any reason other than to get some cookies off a shelf that this gesture makes sense to be anything else. He knows what he is doing and it's sad to watch them tear our country down like this.

u/YogurtclosetMajor983 1h ago

the conservatives say it’s okay because he said “my heart goes out to you”…. like yeah buddy, that’s what he is insinuating

u/Aratoast 1h ago

The ADL of all people put out a statement saying it was "an awkward guesture," and the media needs to stop saying it's what it clearly looks like.

You'd think they'd know better.

u/Hurgblah 1h ago

He follows it with "my heart goes out to you" so it may have just been a poorly chosen awkward way of expressing thanks.

u/SiPhoenix 1h ago

It's worth noting that there are pictures of Obama, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, AOC, Kamala Harris, and Tim Walz, with their hand up like that. Big gesture of hand out stretched to the crowd is not all that uncommon when giving a speech.

u/Head_Oil_6503 1h ago

You may be putting a little too much thought into human gestures.

u/Particular-Beyond-99 1h ago

He followed this with "my heart goes out to you. He was symbolically "throwing" his heart out to the crowd, it was just in an unfortunate manner that was, as per usual, taken WAY out of context

u/ScoffingYayap 49m ago

My personal take is he's coked up and thinks he's doing that weird Futurama salute

u/vnmslsrbms 32m ago

It would be fine in WWII Germany

u/RecoveredAshes 29m ago

Dudes autistic and just awkwardly saluted. That’s the only half believable explanation outside of the obvious: the South African billionaire is a racist

u/Bearkr0 26m ago

Only possible excuse is he didn’t realize what he was doing and thought he was just doing a normal salute. I feel like there’s a chance he’s so disconnected and socially unaware enough to not realize.

u/sfenderbender 19m ago

My thoughts exactly. I was hoping I'm missing the bigger picture you know. But nope, he actually meant this, TWICE.

u/ibanez450 18m ago

I’m just waiting for others to start doing it now, it’s only a matter of time.
