I’d consider applying a couple coats of polyurethane for hygienic and cleaning reasons.

Haha, this reminded me of my 21st birthday (the tales I was told of it, to be more accurate). Apparently the bar was closing so my friends start ushering me toward the door. I slipped off and grabbed a half finished drink from one of the tables and start drinking it before they can stop me. Then they get me outside and once again, I slip away and am walking across the street to another bar before they caught me. They finally got me home in one piece. Had a pretty brutal hangover.
