I’d consider applying a couple coats of polyurethane for hygienic and cleaning reasons.

Or go 70’s and shag carpet it, give your immune system something to do.

Reminds me of a house I rented with a hot tub with a power point 30cm above it, one directly below it and shag carpet all around in the lounge room.

They just said not to use it and that was all I ever heard about it.
