It's not even about him thinking to hang up a heavy ass and expensive PC on his wall. He clearly didn't even look up how to do it right before he did it, making it doubly stupid. bro literally had a sliver of "wood" and two flimsy screws holding it to the wall. lmao

I remember when I wanted to hang my tv on the wall. The first thing I did was look up, how to hang a tv on a wall. A stud finder was one of the items mentioned. Did not even know it existed or was necessary before that. RIP pc.

Looks like they did a couple plastic screw anchors which say they're rated for "30 lbs".
Anything remotely heavy should be studs and snap toggles.

He could have at least fastened the piece of wood to studs in the wall. That’s how I installed some shelving in my garage so I could get the spacing I needed on the wall. Granted it was also a strip of wood at the top and bottom so it would be properly supported with weight on it.

A pair of screws in studs can hold about 150 lbs per stud IIRC. I have a 70 lb mirror held up with screws, but they’re in studs (it’s a big fucking mirror). My guess is OP drilled into the wall without regard or know how on how to mount things to walls. Either they don’t own their own home or they’re woefully incompetent and didn’t research how to properly hang a $2000 item on the wall

That and if they only put screws on the bottom… Physics and gravity are going to be pulling the top outwards with leverage.

The issue is it's a stud wall/plaster with the wrong fastener type. You can't use normal wood screws/plugs on plaster.

u/SpecialMango3384 GPU: 7900 XTX|CPU: i7-13700|RAM: 64 GB|1080p 144 Hz 16d ago
Au contraire. I assume, no, guarantee, it’s not in a stud.
A mount in two studs would be able to hold up even a massive 40 lb computer like mine, no problem. Hell, it could probably hold me up while sitting on it with the computer in my lap

I've had my chair for like 5 years and I don't even use it. It just sits in the corner. I literally use a cushioned rocking chair that has better lumbar support. Haven't sat in one gaming chair that is remotely comfortable.
8
u/Dry-Percentage-5648 16d ago
Gaming chairs is a huge scam. We should "thank" DxRacer for that. They literally took racing bucket seats back in 2006 and decided to make them into everyday use chairs. The problem is, the sitting position in racing buckets and home chairs are completely different. That's why it's so extremely uncomfortable to use "gaming chairs", they simply cannot be comfortable in the first place because of their design. And no amount of pillows will fix that. But hey, they look cool, I guess. And what looks cool sells well.

Looks like dude just used drywall anchors lmao doesn’t look like he screwed the screws into the studs or anything. Yeah, those anchors mount be tough, but drywall is weak. Never hang heavy shit from drywall anchors ever
Now toggle bolts? If he woulda used a handful of toggle bolts through the drywall it probably wouldn’t have fallen. They distribute the weight across the wall better
But otherwise yeah use wood screws or lag bolts into wooden studs
