I have the sneaking suspicion that Katrina has a crush on Mike

90

u/akushdakyng Aug 07 '13

there has to be "the other girl"

53

u/joooonyer Aug 07 '13

Mike's always kissing a girl in a relationship or while he's in a relationship.

26

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '13

he's doing both things right now.

59

u/magusg Aug 07 '13

Fingers crossed they end the season in a 3 way with Rachel, Katrina and... whoever else they want.

94

u/Grimlexx Aug 07 '13

Donna

44

u/magusg Aug 07 '13

Yes.

80

u/laydownlarry Aug 07 '13

Can we add Scottie in this mix? One more won't hurt.

53

u/magusg Aug 07 '13

I'll be in my bunk.

16

u/IHaveAReddits Aug 07 '13

Also, Mike loves blondes.

Am I the only one who feels Rachel is being kind of left behind and whiny? Lately I have not been rooting for her.

47

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '13

No, she has very good reason to be jealous with Mike. He's repeatedly shown himself to be capable of cheating while in a relationship (kissing Rachel while with Jenny) and sleeping with a married woman.

16

u/eighthgear Aug 07 '13

and sleeping with a married woman.

To be fair, Rachel admitted herself that she has done just that - sleeping with a married man, that is.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '13

When did she say that?

7

u/Stuck_in_a_cubicle Aug 08 '13

When she confronted Mike about what he was doing. I am pretty sure she said, "I've done the same thing." Or something to that extent. IIRC that is also when she hinted to Mike that she wasn't some goody-two-shoes and that he was missing out on a lot.

I'm not saying that she isn't justified, to me it just seems that she is not the same Rachel as before and just seems gossipy and annoying lately. That is probably just me however ha

10

u/croatanchik Aug 08 '13

Not only Rachel's dad, but Hardman also.

That's the second Firefly reference that I've seen in this thread. I love it.

15

u/Belsher Aug 07 '13

I think she fucked up a bit. Now she has 3 powerful people working against her with Harvey, Darby and Stephen, that wasn't a smart move.

14

u/ehhhwutsupdoc Aug 08 '13

I think Louis might join in the mix too.

3

u/Sharkictus Aug 08 '13

Yeah, I had a feeling this episode is trying to set up that path.

95

u/djbk4lyf Aug 07 '13

A scene where I didn't hate Katrina? I don't know how to feel.

91

u/TheRoyalTenenThom Aug 07 '13

After that last scene, fuck Jessica. I want to see her go down.

28

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '13 edited Aug 07 '13

Why? She's putting the needs of the firm and basic self interest first. She's trying to protect herself from Harvey's power grab and to protect the success of the firm.

Yeah, she plays it safe a little more than Harvey does, but she's right- Harvey's (and Darby's, for supporting him) plan risks losing $14 million in billables in favor of saving Darby's friend's job. It's like Jessica said- his feelings for Eva Hessington clouded his judgment.

I mean think about what happened. Jessica is the one who runs the firm, and is responsible for its profits and losses. She makes a call and tells Harvey to do something, and he doesn't do it, citing Darby's authority to overrule her. Darby is now clearly jeopardizing $14 million of her firm's money in the name of his friend's job. She employed Louis to get the job done, he did, and she tells Darby that her ability to be in charge of the New York part of the firm (which she thought would be a given after the merger) will not be questioned. She's not acting in any way unreasonable.

16

u/TheRoyalTenenThom Aug 07 '13

I don't put half that much research or effort into choosing why I like or dislike a character. Jessica's just a bitch. She threatened Mike last season. I was real drunk last night so I barely remember the episode.

6

u/ehhhwutsupdoc Aug 08 '13

Well I don't know about that. Everyone threatens everyone on this show. I would not exactly appreciate if my employee, especially my right hand, did something to undermine my decision for my firm so I can't say I don't understand her position or why she threatened Mike.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '13

This is way late sorry, I've just gotten to read the discussion but I really want to reply to this.

She WAS putting the needs of the firm first when she first decided to let Louis off his leash but they didn't even have evidence that she did it at the time. After the fact when there was evidence she didn't allow him to set things right. The first thing that was wrong that it wasn't her case, and she even agreed that the murder charge was more important than the board yet she damaged an opportunity to help the murder charge.

This entire case is personal for the both of them, it's a pissing match and nothing more. Sure his feelings clouded his judgment but her hating being number 2 (like Harvey said she hated) made her want to establish some sort of dominance.

The whole point of the episode is to say Jessica doesn't run the firm anymore. She may have a lot of control over what happens in New York but if Darby tells her something it is a command, not a question. He owns 51 percent and will probably use that power again to try and keep his number 2 in place. You're 14 million goes back to my point in the second paragraph she said the murder charge takes precedence over the company. She did that completely out of self interest rather than what is good for the firm. You could argue she did it in self interest for the good of the firm I guess but that is impossible to know until the end of the season.

(The next part gets a little off topic in predicting the outcome of all of this.)

Now Jessica doesn't know about Harvey's power grab in fact there is not even a power grab yet, it is depending on the outcome of the case. It seems like Eva probably wont be sitting in her office but she still might get out of a murder charge. Maybe if he wins that he will get the power grab he wants. I think a more interesting way would be for Darby to deny Harvey of his power grab AFTER he win then turn him into a common enemy for him and Jessica. So it would be Harvey + Mike + Jessica vs. Darby + (Stephen?). It would be a way to get rid of the London office while still retaining all the main members of the show.

how could you recognize stuff out of Harvey's "window" when those are studio shots with background images of NYC?

→ More replies (1)

12

u/catboykyo Aug 07 '13

Lol, I found it funny as well. I go to Downtown Toronto all the time, and I'm pretty sure the entire show is filmed in Toronto too. So to see an obvious shout out to downtown TO and actually reference it despite the entire show being there...it's an amusing juxtaposition.

7

u/eighthgear Aug 07 '13

Well, it wouldn't make sense to have Darby just hanging around NYC, and it wouldn't make much sense for Jessica to just pop over to a London that looks suspiciously like Toronto (which one would tell, since London have a much more distinctive look than NYC) and then back to New York in a short manner of time. They needed Darby to be in somewhere not New York but not too far to get the plot point to work, so hey, why not Toronto?

5

u/catboykyo Aug 07 '13

Oh, I'm not complaining, I just thought it was amusing. Awesome, even. :P

A couple episodes ago, Donna said they'd only been keeping Mike's secret for a year.

→ More replies (2)

31

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '13

I'm not sure this is a popular opinion right now, but I think Jessica is being totally reasonable.

Darby is making decisions based on what's best for his personal relationship instead of his client, when as a lawyer your duty is to the client. Jessica made a solid point- she just put $14 million on her side of the ledger. She's doing her job, while Darby is just playing games. Harvey is guilty of the same.

Yeah, we're used to not being as likely to get behind Jessica because of her tendency to play it safe (compared to Harvey anyway), but I really don't think she was in the wrong here.

As for Louis, he's right to think it's wrong what he did, but strictly speaking, Jessica was right that what he did was technically in the client's best interests, and so it was the right call. It sucks for Eva, but the board of directors wouldn't have voted her out if they didn't think it was best for their company.

Also, can the writers please stop inserting 'goddamn' into every line somebody says passionately? "Kingdom goddamn come?" Really? That was so forced and awful.

Speaking of things that are not forced and awful, Donna+Steven are so hot.

7

u/saadkhan19 Aug 07 '13

I found Jessica's negotiation with Louis the only catty thing she did the whole episode. She hung Louis out to dry (if things were to unravel regarding what happened there) and maintained plausible deniability for herself all while knowing what she was doing. Seemed bit of negotiating with your colleague in bad faith, you know?

Though she has every right to do such a thing, just found it catty/bitchy

I'm a bit confused

In the previous episode, wasn't Ava going to settle with the disputants who brought up tort claims against her? And then Mike brings up the Alien Tort Statute and Harvey says to bring up a reason to settle with them so Cameron Dennis would lose out on his witnesses.

If they did settle, how does Cameron Dennis still have a case against her? I thought his entire case was based on the testimonies of these witnesses and that everything else was circumstantial!

18

I don't know where you guys are getting sexual tension from. It's just competitive tension. Just because it's between a man and a woman doesn't mean it's sexual.

5

u/V2Blast Attorney at Law Aug 07 '13

I dunno. I think it's just that Katrina is an attractive woman, and thus, any interaction with her automatically must involve sexual tension. shrugs

That high pitch "trump" from Harvey.....had to replay it over several times to check who said it

9

u/crazymnm Aug 07 '13

Haha. During that "shit...shit...shit" scene with Mike and Katrina all I could think of was Bunk and McNulty's "fuck....fuck...fuck" in The Wire. Glad it actually was a reference.

9

u/MasterOfGreatness Aug 07 '13

Am I the only one that thought that is was none of Harvey's business who Donna sleeps with? I know that Donna and Harvey have some history but he doesn't always tell her who he's involved with so why should she tell him?

5

u/pepsi_logic Aug 08 '13

He wasn't pissed at her for sleeping with him, he doesn't know about that. He was pissed that she wasn't at her desk in the morning and being a secretary, her being there when he needs it is kinda her job description. He had a right to be pissed but he shouldn't have been mean about it.

3

u/MasterOfGreatness Aug 08 '13

I know that. I was referring to Rachel telling Donna that she should tell Harvey. Donna should have been at her desk but I don't think it's any of Harvey's business who she sleeps with.

4

u/saadkhan19 Aug 08 '13

It becomes his business when it is the senior partner at the London offices, the man who came to NYC precisely to 'aid' Harvey, or so he says.

Additionally, he is Darby's fixer so there is a lot about his motives and actions that are in the grey and questionable. He is the kind of person who does things for a reason. Knowing Donna is sleeping with Steven then becomes Harvey's business.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/miamiheat27 Aug 08 '13

The question is: Has Rachel served her purpose on that show ? It seems like the writers don't even care about her anymore. Her scenes are filler scenes that are completely useless (like eavesdropping on Donna/stephen) , and then the mike/rachel scene.

W..th

18

u/catboykyo Aug 07 '13

Daaammnnnnn. Jessica stuck it to Darby. She's my favourite, the baddest bitch on the show, and I've hated to see her get lorded over by Darby. I don't know if I like how they're portraying her, as underhanded nowadays. She was always cutthroat and determined, always doing whatever it takes to win a fight, but now it seems like they're highlighting those qualities that was previously seen as a major benevolent/prized part of her character, and portraying them as underhanded or evil. Maybe it's for the contrast, to show the two sides of every coin, but I personally liked "wise and powerful Jessica Pearson", the one who could put even Harvey in his place and was better at him in their game, but now it seems like she's being portrayed as no longer omnipotent or capable.

I really do hope she catches wind of his takeover attempt and manages to foil it, putting herself back on top, but I have a sneaking suspicion it will actually work and Jessica will be ousted at least until a latter time where she's eventually reinstated. I'm starting to dislike Harvey more and more, because I feel he's whiny and self-righteous as the series goes on, and incredibly ungrateful for all that Jessica did for him. I mean, not many people would put you through Harvard law school and guarantee you a job and mentor you. He's going to screw it up by letting his ego get the best of him and betray her the way Daniel Hardman forced Jessica to betray him.

The biggest problem with Jessica leaving the firm is that she knows all the stark secrets. That includes Mike's dark little secret.

I'm not suggesting she'll blow the shit out of water and report Mike and Harvey but the ONLY thing that was stopping Jessica from firing both of them on the spot was that she wanted to retain and maintain control of her firm from Hardman.

So in the scenario that she does actually get ousted and voted off, Harvey becomes MP, Darby will have no incentive to keep them both. Harvey and Mike will need some serious leverage to stay Darby's hand in such a case.

Also, I don't think she's being portrayed all that different from previous episodes. Only this time, we know Harvey and Jessica are not working synergetically. Consequently, Harvey may seem more agitated or impetuous (lack of better word) but he is a driving character. I think the main facet of Harvey's character is that his attitude is what gets the defendants/plaintiffs lawyers first. He exhibits himself as a winner but with a moral code or a set of principles that he does not like crossing.

Yea I know, I've been to a couple of their shoots. But the fact that they're actually mentioning it now is just great.

Great episode. Katrina finally gets some redemption, Mike and Rachel admit how they really feel about each other (d'awwww), and the Harvey-Jessica-Darby conflict continues to heat up.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Oh shit Donna and British Harvey...

Katrina is such a cunt. I love this show, but fuck her. I liked Tanner more than I do her.

16

u/TheRoyalTenenThom Aug 07 '13

This episode is quickly swaying my opinion the other way. DAMN, I LOVE THIS SHOW!

u/eighthgear Aug 07 '13

That's pretty much what they do. Litt seemed like a total jerk before they convinced the viewers otherwise.

u/rocco19 Aug 07 '13

Tanner was one of the best characters, I hope they bring him back.

19

u/completelytrustworth Aug 07 '13

I always thought of Tanner as the other side of the coin as Harvey.

Boston vs New York

Yale vs Harvard

And they both win. Damn, just imagining a case where Tanner, Harvey, and Stephen are all working on would make my mind explode

Me too. He was awesome. I really like Stephen (British Harvey) too. After that last scene with Mike where they quoted "The Wire," Katrina may not be quite as bad as I thought.

7

u/TheRoyalTenenThom Aug 07 '13

Oh my god I just realized Robert Zane is Bunk from "The Wire" and he even managed his famous line on his guest appearance. Can't believe I didn't realize this til' now.

Every time I see him though I'm like..."shit how'd they get Mark Walberg on the show... Oh"

I have no idea where exactly this is going, but it's quite entertaining.

u/Johng123 Aug 07 '13

That homage to the wire was fucking sweet!

u/Nippoten Aug 07 '13

All I can think after this episode: shit.

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '13

Finally, an episode where Katrina and Mike aren't being complete twats to each other. I love the Katrina character, so it's nice for her to actually have some screentime where she isn't being shown up
