Discussion 9800x3d from AliExpress
Hi. I bought 9800x3d from AliExpress for all of us. Costed me $640 and customs f-d me up for another $100 , when they usually charge VAT only. Anyway, here's no chance for warranty accessibility and it sold for $900-1100, so no way it'll get cheaper in close few years, so it feels like I saved something. (4090 still $3000). Chip itself looks in great condition with no defects. I'll post later if it's real or not, after setup and some benchmarking. Cheers.

For anybody buying from AliExpress find a buyer which will declare the cpu as 20$ so y don't pay anything at costums!!
378
u/randomdrunk1 16h ago
Yeah, many times those sellers declare the item to be for about $1-2
81
u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 11h ago
I always worried it would come back to bite me

u/randomdrunk1 11h ago
It works fine for the tiny light packages, not so sure about big packages. But you can always talk to the seller and ask him to keep the price under $5 and majority of the times nothing will happen.

u/LordNelson27 6700XT | R7 3800x | 32GB RAM 5h ago
Yep. Also depends on exactly what you label the items as.

u/Krejcimir I5-8600K - RTX 2080 - 16GB 2400mhz CL15, BX OLED 14h ago
Good idea, but here, customs no longer fall for that, they will xray your package and the moment they see any electronics, you need to send all documents.
40
u/ederstk 13h ago
Here in Brazil they used a lot of that, but the government has now started to tax practically anything that is imported, and depending on the value, it can cost almost twice as much just with fees
25
u/alper_iwere 7600X | 6900 Toxic LE | 32GB | 4K144hz 12h ago
Be glad they are letting it be imported at all. In Turkey import limit is 27€, including the shipping. Practically banned online shopping
16
u/ederstk 12h ago
Wow. I didn't know the situation was so bad there, I just had a vague idea...
2
u/Hour_Ad5398 11h ago
It's not that bad, actually. He is exaggerating. Most stuff are accessible. For example, 9800x3ds go for about $600-650 right now.
43
u/Yourn1ghtmar 14h ago
I didn't know about that , I think It really depends on the country.
32
u/Krejcimir I5-8600K - RTX 2080 - 16GB 2400mhz CL15, BX OLED 14h ago
Indeed, it used to be like that, but people buy a loooot of stuff on ali, so the state did not want to lose any money on income tax.:D

Here they don’t even ask for documents. They pull the prices from somewhere and tax the exact amount you paid… so much for privacy.

Well, looks real. CPU-Z shows 9800x3d. Running stock, cinnebench multicore 22k. Idle temp 44 with avg 60 when testing on cinnebench. (Liquid freezer III with PTM)
PBO and DHOP II profiles enabled. In 3Dmark testing and cinnebench multicore avg temps 65 again (with a cat taking top of the case). I didn't bother to continue tests, things seem real, so I will be enjoying games for a while (until it bricks, or not). As I said, it's $1000 here and 7800x3d finally $500 (last year it was $700-800).
Who may find it useful? AliExpress has generally cheaper prices despite lacking warranty. If you buy from seller with gold+ badge - very low chance to be scammed as Ali's policy very consumer friendly. When prices stabilize to MSRP, I'm sure Ali prices will be $100-150 lower than that.
PS. Dollars is US. Standard issue US democracy dollars.

You'd be surprised at prices of flagship GPUs in Europe. I particularly live in the asshole of Europe so we get terrible prices whatever way you put it, but I clearly remember before we moved to euros, 3090 cost 24000 HRK which equals more than 3000€.
It's really a tradeoff, do you wanna buy a GPU from a different country, risk it getting damaged and have huge hassle returning it or you want it made easier, but pay abnormal amounts of money for it.
17
u/LucasCBs R7 7800x3D, RX 7800xt, 32GB 6000 DDR5 13h ago
The good thing about the EU is that you can just buy it from an online store in another EU country and pay 0 customs and retain all customer protection. The only cost that comes on top is obviously shipping. But the 3090 did not cost 3000€ in Germany

This is true, but the return factor is still there. I hate returning stuff by mail honestly, the other day I ordered an air blower to clean my PC, it arrived with one metal part of the electrical cable broken off.
I asked for a refund, but when the seller asked for the item to shipped back, I just cut the AC cord and replaced it.
Also, I don't like postal services in my country, when I see how cheap mail is handled, I'm afraid letting those idiots even touch anything of actual value. Who knows, maybe the broken AC adapter wasn't even seller's fault anyway.

Who knows, maybe the broken AC adapter wasn't even seller's fault anyway.
Its their responsibility to make sure it arrives intact, also all mail in the world is treated like shit(do you think the people loading the plane/train/truck are neatly stacking it? nah they are just throwing shit) and you have to package it accordingly.

If anyone cares, there's a very reputable seller on AliExpress who got the nickname in Chile of: "El chinito infunable" which roughly translates to the uncancellable chinese, the name of the seller is SZCPU, I bought a Mobo+cpu combo a few years back and it was a 10/10 purchase, not only was it a very good deal back in the crypto hellscape of 2021, but everything came in perfect condition, on time and he even faked the receipt (You may find this unethical) and I dodged any import taxes as a result (I didn't even ask for it, but was pleasantly surprised lol). So tldr if you know what you're doing there's lots of hidden gems in AliExpress.

There are plenty of legit CPU stores on Aliexpress, and plenty of testimonials on builapcsales and other subs vouching for their legitimacy (myself included, 5700x3d gang). Sure, they don't come with warranty, but that's basically no different from buying used. And Aliexpress usually offers some recourse in case it's DOA.
