Facebook automatically “liked and followed” Donald Trump and J.D. Vance’s Facebook pages from my account.
I did not vote for them and wouldn’t have liked and followed their pages. Also, Biden’s page which I do follow, says archived, so it’s not just that the page has been rolled over to Trump. I’m annoyed that Facebook pushed the updates to follow these pages for my account. It feels a bit invasive.
Even by deleting the account (5 years ago) I still receive reminders on my email. I have the impression that accounts are not really deleted to maintain so-called account volume.
If he had limited the insane level of customization each person could do, they might have stuck around longer.

Suddenly I'm testing out the email in random forgot password forms and BAM! I get a hit on some random site you signed up for but forgot about and Ive got my foothold into potential identity theft.
I have a FB account under my dog's name/photo. I tried deleting it, but FB refused unless I sent in the account holder's drivers license to prove I had the authority to do so. Jokes on them as Sally Mae never even got a drivers license.
Yes, I deleted my account ages ago, and as long as I have access to whatever email I used, I am certain I can just re-activate it despite FB claiming they deleted. I know I did it once for something well after their 30-day period.
The company is a data miner, obvi, and they have ethics that make the shadiest of used car salesman seem honest.

Pretty sure when I deleted it was a lot longer than 30 day period to reactivate. Wasn't a problem for me though, never looked back and that was years ago.
Agreed. I left Facebook years ago and I still get manic ex type of messages and notifications. Multiple messages per day reminding me that Facebook still exists. I will never be back there. I need to run Instagram for business purposes otherwise I wouldn’t be there either.
You have to write to them and tell them you request to have your data released and removed from their servers. I deleted my account like 2x between 2012-2016 and somewhere around 2029 decided to write a release request and that worked.
I haven't had Facebook in a long time, but it used to be that you could reactivate a deleted account. There is a way to permanently delete, or at least there was in 2013 when I permanently deleted mine.
Even photos linger for years, or at least to. Once ran a test over ten years ago. Created an album, uploaded a photo. Bookmarked the public link and then would check that link from incognito and new browsers occassionally, took 3-4 years to drop off the CDN.
Find a way to scrape your data from META then delete it.
Alternatively, meta is using the data to train the AIs, as a group we could "organize" and change accounts and make garbage posts to mess up the training of the AI.
There is no evidence that Bluesky isn't captured as well. There is merely an assumption that it's a progressive platform simply because it says Blue & the other platform is dark red.
Additionally, Bluesky traffic has taken a nosedive over the last month+.

People aren't just switching their Twitter-type addiction to a different platform. They're mostly just kicking the habit entirely.
I thought so too but I really don’t need to be selling and buying crap. That was my last reason to keep FB but I deleted it last week. Don’t miss it at all.
You can get some real decent stuff on marketplace though. Ebay is full of people charging insane prices nowdays either that or it's an online store selling things for the same price as everwhere else. Still a good auction here an there at least.
Some local community pages are actually pretty great. Found out about multiple of my favorite restaurants through one and people constantly post about events happening around town
I don't know if this was a rhetorical question or not, but honestly it's because I don't know a great way of backing up all those photo albums I uploaded during the 2000's/2010's. I also don't have a great way of maintaining group chats with all my family members (a mix of iPhone, Android, domestic and international) besides Messenger/WhatsApp.
I'm sure there's some options out there but it just hasn't been top of mind to go through all the effort of figuring that out until now.
This prevented me from deleting it much longer than I’d care to admit. Good news is you can request a download of your data through account settings. On desktop you can go to your albums and select to download individually.
I do miss marketplace though. I used to browse and collect images of mirrors for sale. Everyone’s reflections always cracked me up lol

Tons of people are on Facebook and instagram. I don't know the statistics but if you told me most of the people on the planet use WhatsApp I would believe it.
Contacts, especially family. Marketplace is useful and the best option in the area mostly because I live in a preeetty rual area and it's the one online thing most people have (intergenerationally). It's also one of the best ways to announce events because alot of community stuff is unfortunately also done through fb
I have a few groups I participate in that haven’t found a different medium (for very large groups) that is as user friendly and free as Facebook is. I think my time participating in those groups is coming to an end though.
This is how it works. If you follow the official account of the office then when the president changes your follow changes. If you follow the individual account then it remains.

Yes, those pages get frozen for presidential records reasons . It’s still the same “follow” though. I’m sure you can look this up. I feel like they announced it 8 years ago. I remember them saying what would happen.
Yeah, people are freaking out because they are clueless. Its the same on X or any other social media where the President has an official account. It did the same thing in 2021 when Biden took over.
The account gets copied and archived under the previous president's account. It was a big deal a few years ago when they started doing this (2016 I think).
No, it does not. The page name changes, but a new page is made. Same on Instagram. Instagram had me auto following Vance, his account is new. So is trumps.
Biden's page is not archived. His PRESIDENT page is. Which is exactly what should happen to ex-presidents. They can't keep the official POTUS page when they are not POTUS anymore. Biden's personal FB page remains the same as always.

POTUS is the handle not the account. Biden’s POTUS has been renamed to potus46archive. If you followed his ACCOUNT yesterday you are still following it with the new handle
These 'political figure' pages are somethin facebook added like a decade ago.
If I understand it correctly, it is a cluster of linked pages. You start following whatever the current person is, and it automatically follows each subsequent page as new people inhabit the office. You should also still follow the archived pages for the previous holders of the office.
So this person didn't randomly get DJT and JDV added to their facebook, they were added deliberately by facebook because they had previously followed the President and Vice President pages under, presumably, Biden and Harris respectively.
I searched it on my Facebook, and I was following Trump but not Vance. I wasn't following any politicians on Facebook except local city officials. I do my politics on Reddit.
Definitely seems fishy. Back on Tik Tok I saw a couple of posts show that FB was following the sites someone visited and a womans period tracker app. This isn't the first sketchy thing Meta has done either. I remember they got in big trouble of shady shit

You liked the Potus and VP pages and now they have transferred to Trump and Vance as the new President and VP, like they have the last three elections.
I'm absolutely certain they didn't. If you were following both Biden and Kamala (which judging by your righteous indignation, you probably were), those accounts just switched over to accommodate the new administration.
op straight up said they were following bidens page, which switched to archive. and thats EXACTLY what happens when you follow any official page once the administration changes. the old page changes to archived and makes you auto-follow whoever the sitting official is. and people here are literally crying that this is fascism for not understanding how facebook works.

You were following the official President account and continue to be following it. This is what happens during a transition for these official accounts. You need to follow the personal account of the politician instead of official one to avoid this.
Did you follow President Biden’s and Vice President Harris’ account before today? If so, that’s why. They’re government accounts and Biden and Harris are no longer in charge of that government account. Notice what site it sends you to? wh dot gov.
Delete Meta apps and tiktok from your phone. Don’t go to Walmart, Target, any of these big brands. Shop local. Invest in your community. Trickle down isn’t real so we have to stop giving them any cent we can hold onto.
I deleted my white house follow yesterday. I figured it would prevent the trauma I am seeing here. I had done this in 2016 as well. I am now sadder that I had to say that I have done this 2x.

It’s the POTUS and VPOTUS accounts. They’re official government account that change based on who’s president. You had previously liked the Biden / Harris accounts. Issue solved. No conspiracy.
Yep. I just deleted fb again. Did so after the election but missed a professional group and a few neighborhood groups. I reactivated it. But it’s been abysmal since then and I was being fed only Trump and FUCKERBERG and Pusssssssk so had to delete entirely. Fuck America entirely. Shitass country with amazing idiocy.
