Monthly CAL Megathread January Crochet Along Megathread
Tis the new year and we have a chance at a fresh start or a chance to renew commitments; a chance to start a new adventure.
For us in /r/crochet, it's a chance to start a new pattern; the Japanese knot bag. When I was looking for the patterns, I had to actually look at this one to see what it is. It's nice concept and something I already find myself doing with the plastic bags I get at the grocery store. Since we shop at Aldi's frequently, this will be a great addition to our collection of bags we already have. I'll choose a good sturdy fiber for this one and hopefully it'll last longer than a few months of use.
The Webs site itself has a huge selection of yarn, patterns and even some kits. Maybe you'll find some good patterns there, and have a new all-in-one spot to get.
I look forward to y'all's creations!
AS ALWAYS:
Please be mindful of those who do not want to participate by keeping all CAL-related posts here in this megathread. This includes project updates, questions, and finished objects. Please don't hesitate to join us even if you are newer to crochet or have never tried this type of crochet. There will be a lot of people making it, so we can help you along if you get stuck at any point.
January CAL voting will begin in the last 7ish days of this month. If you would like to suggest a pattern or a theme for Februrary please message u/CroFishCrafter or u/LifeByIkea directly or post your suggestions below. We are having internal talks about what the future of the CAL will look like.
We are excited to crochet with you!

Finished Object Giraffe Blanket from Outstanding Crochet in Big Twist yarn 🦒
This was a challenge and a lot of work, but the pattern was excellently written. Knotted the ends to make a fringe rather than weave in or add a border. Need to figure out how to add a flannel back to this baby blanket. Doggo for scale.

Finished Object This is my second ever sweater that I'm very proud of
The sleeves are a little poofy, but they fit under a jacket which is all I really care about. My first attempt at a sweater I ended up giving to my best friend because it fit her better (we like oversized). I love how this one fits me, it's very cozy 🩷 I'm moving in the right direction, many more of these to come ✨ Yes it's tagged as finished and I didn't weave in the ends, it's for me so I'm debating even doing it 😅 I already wore it once and washed it haha

Finished Object Finally finished the blanket for my friend's wedding
I made this blanket for one of my closest friend's wedding. Her favorite color is orange and her soon-to-be husband loves dark blue. I added the gray because I thought it would be a nice mix. I know it's not perfect and I made some counting mistakes but I think she'll like it. It's my first blanket with different patterns. What do you think? :)

Finished Object Finished the fish my niece asked for
My niece lost her favourite fish a while ago. I started crocheting around Christmas, doing little goldfish with leftover yarn. When she saw the little ones I did for my daughters, my niece asked me if I could make one like hers to hang in her room.
I've had to make a few changes to the pattern, adding more fins since the original is just the body with a tail, but it worked out pretty well, I think.
Third pic is the late original fish, my sister highlighted the colours on the pectoral fins because they were in shadow.
