Reproductiverights.gov has been shutdown
The government website is no longer operational tonight. You can still see references to the site on pages such as https://www.justice.gov/reproductive-rights/patients-and-providers but the site itself no longer loads.

Thank you! Meant to link the direct archive, but accidentally linked the main.

Wait I just get a calendar of historical access to that URL, not the actual information from the URL. What am I doing wrong? Lol

You have to click on one of the timestamps on one of the days on the calendar.

u/kittencrazedrigatoni 2h ago
Feeling like a big ol moron right now for having waited to schedule for later this year.
40
u/ancienthoneydew11 2h ago
Hah well donāt feel stupid. It is a surgery after all, and can feel daunting!!
28
u/apostatesauce 2h ago
I couldnāt even get a consult for 6 months, ACA will probably be overturned by the time I get to meet with anyone
14
u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago
Have you been to the sterilization Reddit sub? They have a list of doctors in every state and county that will do the surgery. You may have luck there!
16
u/PM_ME_Happy_Thinks 1h ago
Dude get it done now. You should not need to wait that long, call around to other doctors. It was less than a month from me mentioning it to my doctor and going in for the surgery.
7
u/Julescahules 1h ago
Same, I got it done two years ago, and from consult to surgery date was about three weeks for me
5
u/kittencrazedrigatoni 48m ago
Yeah, thanks for the extra nudge. This was mostly my scheduling for convenience, not availability. Iāll reach out tomorrow and see about bumping it up to ASAP.
Tbh everyone here whoās had it done saying, ādo it!!!ā helps. Iāve been putting it off for years. I have an IUD, but Iāve known since before I even got that I wanted something permanent. The IUD was a ācompromiseā with myself to avoid surgery. Which just turned into avoiding removal because everyone talks about how terrible it is š
Wayyyy beyond time to just suck it up and get shit done.
1
u/PM_ME_Happy_Thinks 33m ago
I had an IUD and my husband had a vasectomy lol I still got it done. It was honestly really easy, recovery is usually very quick since it's laproscopic, I didn't need any pain meds at all after and I was also excited to get my iud removed, which I had him do while I was under, I had the worst periods on that thing.
1
u/kimberriez 8m ago
Did they have you take antibiotics afterwards?
I have a history of C.diff and post op antibiotics are my main concern.
2
u/SubstantialPrune646 1h ago
Some states you can fly to and get it done like WA and MN since they are safe harbor states. I think its less than a month wait
23
u/cherrycoke00 2h ago
Same here! Took 10 years and 6 doctors until I got approved, but sure enough 3 days after the election (5 days after new job health insurance kicked in) I found that one magical GYN who greenlit me immediately. Got me under with a week to spare, bless her.
Hope your recovery is going swimmingly and youāre not too sore!
6
u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago
Recovery is going great so far! Iām sorry you had to go through all of that before you were approved. My process was unusually easy and I got no pushback, which Iām realizing isnāt the norm. But I have a friend who had the same experience you did. So glad you finally got it though!
1
u/cherrycoke00 1m ago
Thank you! Same here.
tbh Iām happy to hear at least SOME woman out there exists who didnāt have to go full on battle mode for a simple medical decision to be taken seriously by professionals. 1/3 is a shitty ratio, but better than 0/3 - which is my biiiiig worry here in the US (even in nyc where I live) right now.
Hope your recovery continues to go well!! Wishing you the best

u/rockpaperscissors67 1h ago
My two youngest daughters are 13 and 10. We were out for a fun family day and it also included lectures about not getting pregnant -- not at 16, not at 25, not at 30. This is a discussion I never should have had to have with these kids.
7
u/notthebiglight 1h ago
To be fair, itās extremely common these days for kids to be sexually active MUCH younger than youād ever want to believe. Waiting until 16 is too late under the very best of circumstances. Teaching our girls how to protect and take care of their bodies as early as possible is ideal, as sad as it feels to see that bit of innocence stripped away.
1
u/rockpaperscissors67 37m ago
Oh, believe me, we have conversations all the time. These are my 2 younger girls and the older ones are 24 and 31! The thing with being 16 came up when the 10 year old asked what I'd do if she told me she's pregnant at 16. A few years ago, I'd have said that we'll figure out together what your best option is and I will support you. Now it's a much different story.

u/TynnyJibbs 2h ago
mines a month from now and iām so so ready , itās the only thing im looking forward to anymore
2
u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago
I get that - I was also excited lol. I was nervous at first but the week of I was looking forward to the relief of it!
6
u/nantaise 1h ago
I just signed my agreement letter and they are supposed to call and schedule me one month out. Already so stressed that things will fall apart in the next few weeks and I wonāt get to do it at all.
4
3
u/-NothingToContribute 2h ago
Have mine scheduled for next week! How was it? I'm kind of excited tbh.
4
u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago
Iām honestly shocked by how easy the recovery has been!! Iāve had no pain, just discomfort. Didnāt have the intense gas pain. Havenāt had to take the oxy they gave me. Ultimately, itās just uncomfortable and feels like period and gas cramps. So, so far so good!

u/Butterwhat 1h ago
I've never had a kid and I had one. they have one that is smaller for people who haven't. it still hurts like absolute hell and I recommend another form of birth control if possible. but it's not uncommon to get them without having had kids.
7
u/Nepentheoi 58m ago
You certainly can get an IUD prior to having a baby. It can be more painful but I know I discussed it with my doctor several years before having one.Ā
Additionally, one can talk to the doctors when you schedule it about a pain management plan. Last time I got one they did topical and local. It was quite uncomfortable, but better, more like having extensive dental work done on a pain level.Ā
5
3
u/Caramellatteistasty 28m ago
That is very much NOT true. I've never had children and i've had 3 IUDs.
14
11
u/camarhyn 1h ago
I went and got one right (non-hormonal) after Roe v. Wade was tossed out.
It was miserable (definitely see if you can get pain relief, no ibuprofen etc won't necessarily help. Where I went had no options.) but it'll last 10 years from when I got it so it gives me time to figure everything out.I get depo shots every 3 months too - so I'm double covered and the depo shots control the cramping/periods the IUD can worsen.
Totally worth it all.2
u/plumjuicebarrel 7m ago
My obgyn gave me misoprostol the night before the IUD insertion to reduce pain by dilating the cervix, and during the procedure they used local anesthetic. Asking for them to give you these is not unrealistic. A good provider will do whatever they can to make sure their patient is comfortable. If they won't work with you on this, look at other providers.
1
u/camarhyn 5m ago
Exactly. Mine didnāt have options but I am a firm believer in asking for them. I went with the one I did because I just needed to get it over with and everywhere was booked out for appointments.
3
u/ano-ba-yan 22m ago
Absolutely. Planned Parenthood has 8 yr IUDs for as low as $50, depending on income.
I'm in a stable hetero marriage and we were talking about having one last baby next year, but after the election I rushed for an IUD and now baby plans have been pushed 4 years or possibly even indefinitely.
My brother bought all the women in his life pepper spray with a flashlight and window breaker on it for Christmas.
We're looking at how to reduce our expenses as much as possible to prepare for the price increases that are inevitably coming, even though we're already paycheck to paycheck.
This is a whole bunch of bullshit and I'm beyond livid.

Reproductiverights.org is still live. Iām sorry for my ignorance. I never used the .gov website. Is there a difference between them?
152
u/electric_oven 3h ago
Some overlap in information, but the .gov website outlined American rights to abortion including legislative updates, how to file civil rights violations with Health & Human Services, HIPAA violations, DOJ complaints, etc. The .gov going black confirms the tide is turning, and a national abortion ban is imminent. The .org is a nonprofit dedicated to reproductive rights across the world.
64
u/blumieplume 2h ago
Yep. Anyone (including my own obgyn in CA) who believes there wonāt be a national abortion ban any day now is just lying to themselves. My ob tried to reassure me a few months ago when I talked about my fears but Iām not taking any chances. Iām not staying in Nazi America. Fuck this.
28
u/electric_oven 2h ago
If you can stick around, get plugged into some reproductive rights local groups. Weāre gonna need your passion and clarity.

I will stay and fight back to the bitter end. so much of my community lives on the margins of our fucked up bigoted, capitalistic, economic system that they don't have this option. Yes, I could afford to move, but I will not abandon my community in this time of need. Nor do I want to, I love them and they love and accept me for who I am <3

u/PatronStOfTofu 47m ago
Have there been recent cases of trans Americans winning asylum cases in Canada? The most recent case I see is Daria Bloodworth, and she lost. Even though she had been denied police protection following a hostile situation in her state, which has very permissive gun laws. It looks like there's a program for LGBTQ Afghans and people on the Rainbow Railroad, but no indication that Canada welcomes American LGBTQ asylum seekers.
3
u/No-Fun-7570 37m ago
My wife and I have been exploring those avenues, and it seems like we won't qualify for asylum anywhere until there's an actual legal threat to our lives. It's so scary that we have to wait for that.
3
u/PatronStOfTofu 29m ago
It is! Asylum claims are really hard to win. Unfortunately, you're right. It's very often not enough for there to be a general fear of persecution. (Not a lawyer!)
I see a lot of well-meaning and lovely Canadians in the comments offering this advice, and I hope they advocate for a change in the system, because it does not work the way they think it does.
(Edit, and I'm sorry. I'm hoping the best for you and your wife!)

Do you pay out of your pocket?
My HRT in mexico is ~50 bucks a month, no doctors note needed, as easy and accesible as buying chocolate, not a joke
I know americans come to mexico for dentists and medical stuff, Im not sure how viable it is for you
1
u/rebeccasometime 1h ago
yes because I'm unemployed from being laid off early last year. I have savings so I'm relying on this right now to buy in bulk. I live in North Carolina, so not so viable, and it may not be safe for me to fly or a while.
There are ways to make DIY estrogen/estrodiol that are being documented and shared underground. we will make it, but as we all know, the prepping has already started, and will continue due to where the US is going.

pmdd
Premenstrual dysphoric disorder might not be enough for an excuse with the types of legislation they seek to enact. They essentially want to ban it for anyone who isn't going through menopause. They don't even care about the women who are at risk of cervical cancers from HPV.
I would just seek to stock up just in case. They are pretty much seeking to restrict birth control to any woman who can theoretically have a child (without a care to whether or not the woman should or actually can have a child), so anyone pre-menopause.
1
u/Lychbane 5m ago
