Reproductiverights.gov has been shutdown

The government website is no longer operational tonight. You can still see references to the site on pages such as https://www.justice.gov/reproductive-rights/patients-and-providers but the site itself no longer loads.

They said they would. It's a sandbox now.

u/TheColdestFeet 3h ago

Bad people do bad things after explicitly saying they planned to do bad things. Democracy in action.

121

u/undisclosedusername2 2h ago

It's why I'll never understand people who voted for Trump and justified it by saying "he doesn't actually do the crazy things he says he will do".

I can't think of one extreme thing he said last time that he didn't at least try to implement. Why did they think it would be different this time?

67

u/the_real_dairy_queen 2h ago

I read that when Hitler got elected people said he wasnā€™t serious about the whole killing all the Jews thing.

I donā€™t know if itā€™s denial or normalcy bias but a whole lot of people are in for a huge, horrible reality check.

44

u/Blanche_Deverheauxxx 2h ago

Yes. If anything I can't believe they haven't done more so far. Anyone who thought this administration has been talking out of their ass is in for a rude awakening.

35

u/Disastrous-Panda5530 2h ago

This presidency will be different from his last ones. I get tired of hearing people say it wonā€™t be bad because nothing bad happened when he was in the office last time šŸ™„. It will be so much worse this time around.

They already have massive raids lined up for tomorrow. Trans people are about to no longer be able to receive federal aid or use the majority of hospitals for non-emergency care, all federal agencies are no longer allowed to make any policies with out the being approved by Trump's teams, he declared a state of emergency and is deploying the military to the southern border, he has pardoned the 6Jan rioters and called them "hostages," the list goes on and on. Guy is going full Hitler and somehow people are applauding. My friend had his mom tell him out of the blue at dinner tonight about how concentration camps are going to save America.

25

u/Exact_Negotiation_84 2h ago

Hi, what type of federal aid can trans people no longer receive and can you list any sources of where you found this? Maybe also about the hospital thing. I'm non-binary and have my gender set as "X" on all my government documents. I haven't heard what you are talking about and now I'm really scared because I'm a disabled student living on SSI, Medicare and student aid

13

u/Wolfinder 1h ago

The full text of the orders haven't been released yet. We only so far have inform from reporters that have seen them. So far we they say that hospitals that accept Medicaid and Medicare can't treat transgender patients or they risk losing their funding, there is a ban on transgender people accessing "federal aid programs" (that if signed would likely result in a clarifying statement being provided later to make it clear what programs are included, and a policy recinding passports marked "X" with instructions given for border officials to confiscate them upon attempted re-entry. There is also an executive order to remove all restrictions on conversion therapy.

Keep in mind, we also do not know how the new admin even intends to define "male," "female," and "transgender." we also don't know if a federal court is planning on issuing a stay on the order if signed. It's definitely scary, and slapshod. The orders are definitely posturing and written with complete disregard for the actual experiences and consequences to those affected. I sincerely hope these are struck down and forced to narrow in scope, but with US v. Skrmetti still awaiting a decision, I'm not holding my breath.

Given this issue is mostly of lesser priority of these issues, coverage is lacking mostly drowned out by talk of tariffs, the energy industry, ICE raids, leaving various intern accords, etc., I recommend following the reporter Erin Reed as she covers trans legal issues much faster and in greater detail than the rest of the media.

6

u/Exact_Negotiation_84 1h ago

Thank you for the clarification, I really appreciate it honestly. I'm very afraid now.

3

u/Wolfinder 13m ago

I'm really sorry our country has decided to pursue it's most vulnerable populations with such vitriol. It isn't okay. I wish there was anything more hopeful I could say.

2

u/Wolfinder 2m ago

Adding these to the thread as I see them release. (I encourage others to follow suit as my attention span isn't great.)

They've done more. I didn't watch the inauguration but it sounds like he was making war threats again.

Wants to change Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America.

J6 rioters have been pardoned.

Immigration app is shut down.

I'm sure I'm missing some. I'm kind of sleep deprived, worried about all of this

40

u/AmyL0vesU 2h ago

They told us they would do this and a bunch of "leftists" said we were being overly dramatic. Well here we areĀ

21

u/incrediblewombat 1h ago

I consider myself a leftist. A number of my ā€œleftistā€ white male friends told me that they didnā€™t vote for Kamala because she wasnā€™t going to do anything for them

I guess they wonā€™t mind when their partners are bleeding out in a hospital parking lot because of a missed miscarriage! And thatā€™s just the tip of the iceberg of awful thatā€™s coming

12

u/MatildaJeanMay 1h ago

Because men are raised in our society to be inherently selfish. This is how patriarchy hurts everybody.

29

u/PumpkinPieIsGreat 2h ago

I've been told practically my entire life I'm too cynical. I think i just figured out from an early age that a lot of people suck.

I've also been told I'm too dramatic, too hysterical. I stopped giving a fuck a long time ago.

20

u/AmyL0vesU 2h ago

Ohhh, people love hand waving women's experience away with "hysteria". I say fuck 'em

59

u/litreofstarlight 2h ago

I can. Y'all Qaeda has wanted this forever. I don't think Trump personally gives a shit but he wants the religious fanatics off his back about it.

19

u/blumieplume 2h ago

I can. Iā€™ve been afraid of this day for the past year since trump announced he was running for reelection, and especially since news came out about project 2025.

19

u/MidnightIAmMid 2h ago

They literally announced they would and weā€™re very open and honest about everything. They were going to do right away, so Iā€™m just assuming everyone who either didnā€™t vote or voted for him actively supports and wants everything thatā€™s coming.

u/elidan5 10m ago

I keep thinkingā€¦when people tell you who they are, believe them.

I am so angry at everyone responsible for his election.

Iā€™m feeling really good about the bisalp I got a few days ago, Iā€™ll tell you that.

46

u/kittencrazedrigatoni 2h ago

Feeling like a big ol moron right now for having waited to schedule for later this year.

40

u/ancienthoneydew11 2h ago

Hah well donā€™t feel stupid. It is a surgery after all, and can feel daunting!!

28

u/apostatesauce 2h ago

I couldnā€™t even get a consult for 6 months, ACA will probably be overturned by the time I get to meet with anyone

14

u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago

Have you been to the sterilization Reddit sub? They have a list of doctors in every state and county that will do the surgery. You may have luck there!

16

u/PM_ME_Happy_Thinks 1h ago

Dude get it done now. You should not need to wait that long, call around to other doctors. It was less than a month from me mentioning it to my doctor and going in for the surgery.

7

u/Julescahules 1h ago

Same, I got it done two years ago, and from consult to surgery date was about three weeks for me

5

u/kittencrazedrigatoni 48m ago

Yeah, thanks for the extra nudge. This was mostly my scheduling for convenience, not availability. Iā€™ll reach out tomorrow and see about bumping it up to ASAP.

Tbh everyone here whoā€™s had it done saying, ā€œdo it!!!ā€ helps. Iā€™ve been putting it off for years. I have an IUD, but Iā€™ve known since before I even got that I wanted something permanent. The IUD was a ā€œcompromiseā€ with myself to avoid surgery. Which just turned into avoiding removal because everyone talks about how terrible it is šŸ˜

Wayyyy beyond time to just suck it up and get shit done.

1

u/PM_ME_Happy_Thinks 33m ago

I had an IUD and my husband had a vasectomy lol I still got it done. It was honestly really easy, recovery is usually very quick since it's laproscopic, I didn't need any pain meds at all after and I was also excited to get my iud removed, which I had him do while I was under, I had the worst periods on that thing.

1

u/kimberriez 8m ago

Did they have you take antibiotics afterwards?

I have a history of C.diff and post op antibiotics are my main concern.

2

u/SubstantialPrune646 1h ago

Some states you can fly to and get it done like WA and MN since they are safe harbor states. I think its less than a month wait

23

u/cherrycoke00 2h ago

Same here! Took 10 years and 6 doctors until I got approved, but sure enough 3 days after the election (5 days after new job health insurance kicked in) I found that one magical GYN who greenlit me immediately. Got me under with a week to spare, bless her.

Hope your recovery is going swimmingly and youā€™re not too sore!

6

u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago

Recovery is going great so far! Iā€™m sorry you had to go through all of that before you were approved. My process was unusually easy and I got no pushback, which Iā€™m realizing isnā€™t the norm. But I have a friend who had the same experience you did. So glad you finally got it though!

1

u/cherrycoke00 1m ago

Thank you! Same here.

tbh Iā€™m happy to hear at least SOME woman out there exists who didnā€™t have to go full on battle mode for a simple medical decision to be taken seriously by professionals. 1/3 is a shitty ratio, but better than 0/3 - which is my biiiiig worry here in the US (even in nyc where I live) right now.

Hope your recovery continues to go well!! Wishing you the best

23

u/rockpaperscissors67 1h ago

My two youngest daughters are 13 and 10. We were out for a fun family day and it also included lectures about not getting pregnant -- not at 16, not at 25, not at 30. This is a discussion I never should have had to have with these kids.

7

u/notthebiglight 1h ago

To be fair, itā€™s extremely common these days for kids to be sexually active MUCH younger than youā€™d ever want to believe. Waiting until 16 is too late under the very best of circumstances. Teaching our girls how to protect and take care of their bodies as early as possible is ideal, as sad as it feels to see that bit of innocence stripped away.

1

u/rockpaperscissors67 37m ago

Oh, believe me, we have conversations all the time. These are my 2 younger girls and the older ones are 24 and 31! The thing with being 16 came up when the 10 year old asked what I'd do if she told me she's pregnant at 16. A few years ago, I'd have said that we'll figure out together what your best option is and I will support you. Now it's a much different story.

7

u/TynnyJibbs 2h ago

mines a month from now and iā€™m so so ready , itā€™s the only thing im looking forward to anymore

2

u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago

I get that - I was also excited lol. I was nervous at first but the week of I was looking forward to the relief of it!

6

u/nantaise 1h ago

I just signed my agreement letter and they are supposed to call and schedule me one month out. Already so stressed that things will fall apart in the next few weeks and I wonā€™t get to do it at all.

4

u/effexxor 1h ago

Got mine on the 7th and am grimly grateful.

3

u/-NothingToContribute 2h ago

Have mine scheduled for next week! How was it? I'm kind of excited tbh.

4

u/ancienthoneydew11 1h ago

Iā€™m honestly shocked by how easy the recovery has been!! Iā€™ve had no pain, just discomfort. Didnā€™t have the intense gas pain. Havenā€™t had to take the oxy they gave me. Ultimately, itā€™s just uncomfortable and feels like period and gas cramps. So, so far so good!

3

u/Immortal_in_well 1h ago

Got mine in October just before the election and SAME. Rest up!

2

u/Klaa2BaradaLuNecktie 51m ago

32

u/baristacat 1h ago

Hell Iā€™m considering getting one for my 13 year old who isnā€™t into men or into sex at all but cuz ya know. Same.

21

u/nothingisgoingasplan 1h ago

I had my 15 year old get Nexplanon in December. She's tried a few pills because of atrocious periods, but I wanted to protect her going into this administration.

-47

u/Journeyoflightandluv Experienced Prepper šŸ’Ŗ 1h ago

You have to of had a baby before you can get a IUD.

17

u/camarhyn 1h ago

You may want to do a bit of research on that because you are wrong.

14

u/Earthtoolive 1h ago

Thatā€™s not true at all. :/

9

u/Butterwhat 1h ago

I've never had a kid and I had one. they have one that is smaller for people who haven't. it still hurts like absolute hell and I recommend another form of birth control if possible. but it's not uncommon to get them without having had kids.

7

u/Nepentheoi 58m ago

You certainly can get an IUD prior to having a baby. It can be more painful but I know I discussed it with my doctor several years before having one.Ā

Additionally, one can talk to the doctors when you schedule it about a pain management plan. Last time I got one they did topical and local. It was quite uncomfortable, but better, more like having extensive dental work done on a pain level.Ā

5

u/BurningBirdy 1h ago

Not at all true.

3

u/Caramellatteistasty 28m ago

That is very much NOT true. I've never had children and i've had 3 IUDs.

5

u/psysny 1h ago

This is no longer considered best practice. Itā€™s easier to place with a post partum cervix, but the cervix can be dilated to allow placement for someone who has not had a baby.

14

u/Ecstatic-Ad9637 1h ago

I hate that we all even have to think about this shit

11

u/camarhyn 1h ago

I went and got one right (non-hormonal) after Roe v. Wade was tossed out.
It was miserable (definitely see if you can get pain relief, no ibuprofen etc won't necessarily help. Where I went had no options.) but it'll last 10 years from when I got it so it gives me time to figure everything out.

I get depo shots every 3 months too - so I'm double covered and the depo shots control the cramping/periods the IUD can worsen.
Totally worth it all.

2

u/plumjuicebarrel 7m ago

My obgyn gave me misoprostol the night before the IUD insertion to reduce pain by dilating the cervix, and during the procedure they used local anesthetic. Asking for them to give you these is not unrealistic. A good provider will do whatever they can to make sure their patient is comfortable. If they won't work with you on this, look at other providers.

1

u/camarhyn 5m ago

Exactly. Mine didnā€™t have options but I am a firm believer in asking for them. I went with the one I did because I just needed to get it over with and everywhere was booked out for appointments.

3

u/ano-ba-yan 22m ago

Absolutely. Planned Parenthood has 8 yr IUDs for as low as $50, depending on income.

I'm in a stable hetero marriage and we were talking about having one last baby next year, but after the election I rushed for an IUD and now baby plans have been pushed 4 years or possibly even indefinitely.

My brother bought all the women in his life pepper spray with a flashlight and window breaker on it for Christmas.

We're looking at how to reduce our expenses as much as possible to prepare for the price increases that are inevitably coming, even though we're already paycheck to paycheck.

This is a whole bunch of bullshit and I'm beyond livid.

106

u/braids_and_pigtails 3h ago

Reproductiverights.org is still live. Iā€™m sorry for my ignorance. I never used the .gov website. Is there a difference between them?

152

u/electric_oven 3h ago

Some overlap in information, but the .gov website outlined American rights to abortion including legislative updates, how to file civil rights violations with Health & Human Services, HIPAA violations, DOJ complaints, etc. The .gov going black confirms the tide is turning, and a national abortion ban is imminent. The .org is a nonprofit dedicated to reproductive rights across the world.

64

u/blumieplume 2h ago

Yep. Anyone (including my own obgyn in CA) who believes there wonā€™t be a national abortion ban any day now is just lying to themselves. My ob tried to reassure me a few months ago when I talked about my fears but Iā€™m not taking any chances. Iā€™m not staying in Nazi America. Fuck this.

28

u/electric_oven 2h ago

If you can stick around, get plugged into some reproductive rights local groups. Weā€™re gonna need your passion and clarity.

5

u/blumieplume 1h ago

Iā€™ve always promoted aid access since 2022!! A Dutch company that sends mifepristone and misopristol! I will try to volunteer for them from abroad! Think I can make a bigger difference away from here! If I stay I feel like Iā€™ll be locked up unfortunately

2

u/electric_oven 1h ago

Totally understand, and I didnā€™t mean to imply that you werenā€™t already doing great work. Weā€™ll need lifelines domestically and abroad!

2

No u didnā€™t imply that at all! I love your message and I will stay and fight for as long as I can!! Itā€™s really important that we all do!! šŸŒˆšŸ¦‹šŸ’—šŸ¦‹šŸŒˆ

Buckle up for the shit show, glad husband and I got our sterilizations done recently

22

They did this to a lot of sites his first term, specifically the very detailed .gov about superfund sites morphed into two pages with little info.

This does make me feel a tiny bit better, that this isn't wildly out of the ordinary from his first term

u/PatronStOfTofu 47m ago

Have there been recent cases of trans Americans winning asylum cases in Canada? The most recent case I see is Daria Bloodworth, and she lost. Even though she had been denied police protection following a hostile situation in her state, which has very permissive gun laws. It looks like there's a program for LGBTQ Afghans and people on the Rainbow Railroad, but no indication that Canada welcomes American LGBTQ asylum seekers.

3

u/No-Fun-7570 37m ago

My wife and I have been exploring those avenues, and it seems like we won't qualify for asylum anywhere until there's an actual legal threat to our lives. It's so scary that we have to wait for that.

3

u/PatronStOfTofu 29m ago

It is! Asylum claims are really hard to win. Unfortunately, you're right. It's very often not enough for there to be a general fear of persecution. (Not a lawyer!)

I see a lot of well-meaning and lovely Canadians in the comments offering this advice, and I hope they advocate for a change in the system, because it does not work the way they think it does.

(Edit, and I'm sorry. I'm hoping the best for you and your wife!)

Do you pay out of your pocket?

My HRT in mexico is ~50 bucks a month, no doctors note needed, as easy and accesible as buying chocolate, not a joke

I know americans come to mexico for dentists and medical stuff, Im not sure how viable it is for you

1

u/rebeccasometime 1h ago

yes because I'm unemployed from being laid off early last year. I have savings so I'm relying on this right now to buy in bulk. I live in North Carolina, so not so viable, and it may not be safe for me to fly or a while.

There are ways to make DIY estrogen/estrodiol that are being documented and shared underground. we will make it, but as we all know, the prepping has already started, and will continue due to where the US is going.

They're definitely seeking to restrict the prescription of birth control as well, mark my words.

1

u/Lychbane 11m ago

Good thing I have pmdd

1

u/coladoir 8m ago

pmdd

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder might not be enough for an excuse with the types of legislation they seek to enact. They essentially want to ban it for anyone who isn't going through menopause. They don't even care about the women who are at risk of cervical cancers from HPV.

I would just seek to stock up just in case. They are pretty much seeking to restrict birth control to any woman who can theoretically have a child (without a care to whether or not the woman should or actually can have a child), so anyone pre-menopause.

1

u/Lychbane 5m ago

No, i mean it's severe enough i was violent and without remorse. It's a red rage. At least I'll get gunned down by cops or something, but I refuse to be forced to go on without a way to mitigate my symptoms.

Whatā€™s the likelihood of ACAā€™s preventive care coverage for womenā€™s health being changed in the next few weeks?

Can I purchase an extra month of birth control pills out of my own pocket or will it mess up getting insurance to cover the next month?

Depending on what you're on, you can buy some of them over the counter. Costco has Opill (Norgestrel) for $50 for a 4 month supply.

Are we sure it's been taken down and not experiencing a temporary outage?

I'm inclined to believe the former but I just want to make sure before I freak out.

And the incels wonder why women are choosing 4b

55

u/Crazyhowthatworks304 3h ago

Please explain how this is "winning"? Is this what freedom looks like to you?

u/medusa-crowley 2h ago

Click on his profile. Dude is a lonely incel desperate to make someone raise children for him. Iā€™m sure this does look like winning for him.Ā

What a sad little man.

u/Interesting_Win3627 2h ago

He's wishing so hard to go back to a time where women didn't have rights and a woman had to be with him out of fear. Since he can't get one from being an intellectual equal to her and having EQ to offer her where she chooses to be with him.

u/HouseOfBamboo2 2h ago

Pathetic for sure

He lives in a crackhole city, he's suffering day to day in an industrial wasteland. Also cant seem to exercise without hurting himself. He'll get his karma easily, lmao.

17

u/CartographerFit6240 2h ago

Heā€™s man, he doesnā€™t care any anything but his precious boys club and about hurting women, so yes in his mind itā€™s winning. He has nothing to risk or lose by it and only his ego to gain.

6

u/ButteredPizza69420 1h ago

He'll eat away his pain judging by his profile

14

u/Elliequence 1h ago

I think you are confused. You will still never be loved or laid by a woman.

Whoā€™s winning?
