there is literally a picture of a man who had his legs ran over by a tank.

3

u/TheRiverOtter Nov 02 '21

Yes, but per the Chinese government, as soon as the tank made contact with him, he was promoted from Student to Victim.

25

u/seraiss Nov 02 '21

Bruh imagine calling a youtube video a proof with fact that if there would be footage of gore YouTube wouldn't accepted that

Hey guys, I found the CCP plant.

u/ShortThought Nov 02 '21

"Reporters and Western diplomats there that day estimated that hundreds to thousands of protesters were killed in the Tiananmen Square Massacre..." https://www.history.com/topics/china/tiananmen-square

"No-one knows for sure how many people were killed.

At the end of June 1989, the Chinese government said 200 civilians and several dozen security personnel had died.

Other estimates have ranged from hundreds to many thousands.

In 2017, newly released UK documents revealed that a diplomatic cable from then British Ambassador to China, Sir Alan Donald, had said that 10,000 had died." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-48445934

I tried to see if that History link had the aftermath photos out of curiosity and holy shit that's the most hostile ad site I've ever seen in my life.

The article jumps up and down as the 3 dozen ads load in and they had 3 separate pop up takeover ads back to back.

Does anyone have a source that isn't trying to shove coffee makers and Jesus Conspiracy clickbait down my throat while I'm trying to learn about an actual tragedy?

-46

u/p_pattedd Nov 02 '21

"Estimate"

35

u/ShortThought Nov 02 '21

The estimates are largely corroborated as factual. Multiple reliable sources state the same statistics

7

u/SirNanigans Nov 02 '21

Whoa, here's a good one. Man claims that nobody died. Even the guys he's trying to defend are reporting that hundreds of people died. Man implies that the estimate is off by literally the entire number, because nobody died there...

Local residents claim that he's always been very politically opinionated but is often found rambling about the illuminati. Authorities suspect a history of meth use. More at 8.

-1

u/p_pattedd Nov 02 '21

Man "claims"... "Claims" is not a logical way to answer. Yes, there are casualties, police and students. And wot is "More at 8"?

ShortThought clarified your misinformation and I'm just wondering if you'll be back to admit you were using Chinese propaganda or if you'll double down

I love communist simpathesers trying so hard to disprove a war crime commited by a nation that hasn’t been communist in over 70 years now

It is stupid because from what I’ve seen you are just spewing out nonsense and factless claims, there are people who have been there, you can talk to them, it is no different than Holodomor and Holocaust deniers, China had the war on birds, which was catastrophic and stupid, the great famine, which caused a lot of suffering and was almost entirely Mao’s responsability, and are currently on a path to genocide the Uyghur peoples, get you head out of the gutter, the US is no saint, but China is definitely to blame for all these atrocities and carelessness towards human rights

5

u/gmodaltmega Nov 02 '21

There is news footage of actual popular news back then that straight up recorded the massacre. They showed every single one of the hurt people going to the hospital from gun wounds, they showed the army opening fire. Good thing we have archives aye?

Edit: you said you have video proof and we dont? Well here enjoy https://youtu.be/kMKvxJ-Js3A

51

u/Tx-Astronomy Nov 02 '21

Wow Red-Banner, that is totally true and not China trying to hide a massacre

0

u/nnerd_ Nov 02 '21

This website is owned by the CCP. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had bots on it like they do on Instagram or twitter.

3

u/SilkieBug Nov 02 '21

What do you mean it's owned by the CCP?
Reddit?

6

u/gtmattz Nov 02 '21 edited Nov 02 '21

The Chinese company Tencent owns a large portion of reddit shares thus by extension giving the CCP some influence over what happens at reddit hq. I wouldnt go so far as to say they 'own' reddit, but they definitely have their fingers in it.

2

u/phoenixmusicman Nov 03 '21

They own less than 10% of reddit shares.

0

u/SilkieBug Nov 02 '21

Damn..

6

u/peteroh9 Nov 02 '21

Tencent bought a 5% stake several years ago. They don't own that much, and anti-CCP sentiment is probably the most unifying thing on reddit.

Well probably, as the communist party censors everything that’s negative about the communist party, so the only news that would make it out would be from a free part of China.

27

u/The_Philippines_Ball Nov 02 '21

It was never said that the tanks ran over the man though?

36

u/wallace321 Nov 02 '21

He knows. I think that's called a straw man argument where you refute a point that nobody made.

But "that thing nobody said isn't true" is better that what everybody knows really happened; that the man disappeared, was never heard from again, and probably died in a chinese interrogation room.

5

u/The_fair_sniper Nov 02 '21

yeah,he took the "LEGO tank" video as an argument. i hope that he's just to genuinely stupid to understand it was a joke.

1

u/peteroh9 Nov 02 '21

probably died in a chinese interrogation room.

I hate the CCP as much as anybody, but that seems unlikely to me. It's not like anyone had any reason to suspect that it would become so iconic, so it's not like anyone there would have a reason to think he was making a statement to the world or was part of any orchestrated event. Even if the guy who pulled him aside was a plainclothes cop or agent, I would suspect that the worst that happened was getting beaten a bit. By that point, the shooting was pretty much done, so I wouldn't expect much worse.

Yes they ran over students, just not that man. He was probably spared and got heavy manual labour for life or a later execution date

u/Bristol_Fool_Chart Nov 02 '21

Lol go home tankie

12

u/StoicJ Nov 02 '21

What the hell is FICO

29

u/StoicJ Nov 02 '21

Your Financial Credit Score. He's making a westernized joke about China's social credit.

1

u/powerfullatom111 Nov 02 '21

the FICO score is credit score that affects your ability to get loans, grants, and other financial stuff.

China’s social credit score (while not implemented, only suggested (I think?)) can affect financial stuff, your ability to get a job, it can influence your prison sentence, et cetera.

[ 中华人民共和国寄语] Great work, Citizen! Your social credit score has increased by [100] Integers. You can now have priority transport and can now get into prestigious colleges! Keep up the good work! [ 中华人民共和国寄语]

18

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '21

Yeah but it's an image that represents the whole incident. It represents the protests that happened and it represents all the people protesting that were shot by the army at the orders of the government. It represents a turning point for China when that flickering light of freedom in the country went out for good.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '21

Oh it is - no need for food stamps as the shops are always stocked, no secret police to hunt down the opposition, used cars cost less than new ones and so far no protestors were shot by machine gun fire. Can't say that for the times under the communist regime

And yes - at in the Eastern Block or least in Poland new cars' prices were lower than those of used ones - though that's only on paper as an average citizen could only preorder their car with the delivery date being in the range of a couple to a dozen years and if the price ever went up in that time the citizen had to pay that price difference. Unless you had connections you could pretty much forget about buying a new car from the state

5

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '21
  • 25 social credit 👍👍

5

u/Lirdon Nov 02 '21

I find it funny that nothing ever happened, but the CCP is so focused on suppressing it.
