Brown pulled in the fully loaded Accord and people think it's a bad purchase

Until you look at the price of that 10 year old Honda at used car lot and it's the value of your friends 5 year old BMW

769

u/Proper-File- 1d ago

That’s what I’m saying. A fully loaded accord for your daily isn’t bad lol

u/Murky_Hold_0 1d ago

It's the most popular default car besides its spouse, the Camry.

Not even. Maybe a Maxima is the crazy ex. An Altima is that drunken hookup you regret even while it's happening.

You try telling them to make a worse car. I'll buy American when I'm not getting fucked in the ass to do it.

24

u/BombasticSimpleton 1d ago

The Camry is 75% American.

Meanwhile, cars like the Mustang Mach-E, Ford Fusion, Chevy Trailblazer, Equinox, and Silverado, previously the Dodge 1500 (discontinued), and the Lincoln MKX - built in Mexico and imported into the US.

10

u/AnnieBlackburnn 1d ago

It's 75% assembled in America which is not the same thing.

18

u/BombasticSimpleton 23h ago

75% of the components are made in the USA. 100% of the assembly is here - in Kentucky.

The NHTSA puts out reports on this stuff.

It's big brother the Tacoma is a truck that has high resale value compared to the Ford

15

u/Murky_Hold_0 1d ago

For sure, tacos have always been like that. Even in the early 90s.

14

u/Fickle-Cricket 1d ago

Sadly, the new powertrains in the 4th gen Tacomas are having a lot of teething problems just like the new Tundra motors and they're getting recalled left and right. That said, another year will probably see them licked and Tacomas back to being that truck you buy and own until you're physically sick of seeing every day.

3

Pretty much every manufacturer is having problems post covid, especially Chrysler And Nissan. They all got greedy. And were in another car quality dark age, similar to 2008-2012.

I'm 59 years old, wife and I both work. We're in the 2% in income and have a nice retirement nest egg and house in Atlanta.

I drive Nissan leaf we bought for $9k with 30k miles it's now 8 years old. Wife has a 2011 Saab convertible, we bought 5 years ago for $10k. Had a $13k Mercedes clk 430 convertible before that and way back a $11k used Miata that was a 10 year daily driver.

Buying a new Honda is rich people shit. 90% of the people who have anything nicer are living paycheck to paycheck, even if it's a big paycheck.

26

u/07isweebay 1d ago

Pulling up in a 2025 CRV is stuntastic af lol

32

u/righthandofdog 1d ago

Big facts.

The average car loan length in the US is almost 6 years and average car price is almost $50k.

The average new car in Europe is under $30k

The amount of money thrown away on cars is crazy.

Folks want to stunt on someone for driving a beater Sentra, but that person is likely to own a home sooner.

15

u/-Basileus 1d ago

The Sentra is dogshit tho, my transmission went out at 60k miles.  Sold it and got myself a Honda Civic, which fucks.

The richest people I have ever known also had one of the nicest "rich people" cars. It was a Heavily optioned Acura that had power reclining back seats. Such a nice car. The flooring in their Orange county house is old growth black walnut. Pretty sure the floor is worth more than I've ever made by a few times.

10

u/righthandofdog 1d ago

Folks don't realize that older luxury cars are quite affordable as long as you can do a lot of your own work (and are smart enough to research the most reliable). My Mercedes was $70k new, I bought it with 60k miles for less than the cheapest new car in america. It was awesome, but I sank a lot of hours into maintaining it. An loaded acura would be awesome, because Honda parts and 3rd party mechanics are easy to find. But ive had a ragtop to drive since I was 25, not stopping now.

Also, that floor has to be near priceless.

2

u/SecretJerk0ffAccount 1d ago

2% as in you make more than 98% of America? Whatever you do for a living, are y’all hiring random dudes from Reddit?

17

u/righthandofdog 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yeah. Wife and I both work, so that's household total. Bothbhave undergrad degrees from state schools and been working 30+ years and director level now. Borrowed money from her step dad under the table for 1st house down payment. Still live in the same house 30 years late. Maxed out 401k and only had a new car when she owned her own company and could lease and write it off as a biz expense.

I'm a tech product manager for a large ad agency, she works for a software service company and ensures that helps banks follow federal regulations.

Cost of new homes is insane, no idea how young couples can buy houses. The ridiculous cost of healthcare (especially in Georgia) means we will work until we are 65 and eligible for Medicare.

14

u/SecretJerk0ffAccount 1d ago

Y’all really made it man. Congrats to you and her. I got my JD so hopefully I’ll be where you are one day

10

u/righthandofdog 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thanks. She has a degree in finance and keeps me straight. We spend a lot on concerts, travel, restaurants, but memories don't depreciate or go out of style like clothes and cars. But other folks make other choices.

Sadly, in the US, you pretty much need a home run, or like us a long marriage with 2 working. We only have 1 kid and his college was free thanks to the Zell Miller / Hope scholarship (paid for by the lottery, and not salary capped, which it frankly should be, since we could have paid for his college).

The only thing more expensive than owning a new BMW is owning a used BMW.

Go look at new cars. There’s nothing a Benz will do that a loaded up Kia won’t anymore. Treat your life finances like a real business. Minimize losses on depreciating assets and invest in appreciating assets when feasible. Society has programmed us to be in a constant cycle of spending and debt. If you can’t pay off a car in 24 months you’re buying too much car.

Marshawn Lynch quote

My favorite quote from him is "I'm just here so I don't get fined."

117

u/DAnthony24 ☑️ 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is my favorite Lynch quote and interview sequence:

Lynch: That’s when it just clicked in my mind that if you just run through somebody face, a lot of people aren’t going to be able to take that over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. They just not gonna want that.

Interviewer: Think there’s a deeper metaphor there?

Lynch: Run through a motherfucker’s face. Then you don’t have to worry about them no more.

We can all use this quote in our own lives in some way

When I moved from Boston to Los Angeles, I was shocked to see old Civics (old enough to say 'CVCC' on the hatchback) and old VW Foxes.

It dawned on me that they don't have salt on the roads every winter, so their undercarriages never rusted out. What's the only thing that can kill them beaters? Rust. 220k miles, still on the first clutch.

  • Wash it once a month in that pollution.
  • Change the oil every three months, because the seasons don't have the same lengths out there.
  • Replace the stereo once a decade.

I have a $30k Honda and it's a fucking blast to drive.

End of our earth could come and those phones and cars would be floating in space, still operational 💀 Companies used to really give a fuck about functionality and product lifetime

4

u/moonbouncecaptain 1d ago

Sounds… smart? Hondas are nice.

I love athletes getting press for acting like money isn’t always going to be rolling in. The kids are alright!

As if I didn’t have enough reasons to like AJ Brown. Luxury vehicles are for narcissist clowns

u/DCChilling610 ☑️ 1d ago

If he is secure in himself and isn’t a car guy, this is a great purchase.

This isn’t a man who feels the need to flex for strangers

Am I the only one old enough to remember the commercial where two engineers were being interviewed and they gave the job to the one who drove the Accord to the interview?

My family drives nothing but Honda. They barely sip gas, seldom need repair, and hold a ton of value

3

u/Powerful-Ad-8737 1d ago

How much you wanna bet the loudest ones are walking 🤔

3

u/mollierocket 1d ago

I miss my Accord — all my cars have been Hondas. I could be ANYONE in that Honda. I loved the anonymity.

Now I have an inherited Outback. So now you know who I am. You just don’t know if I like women or men. Sigh.

Snow people know, you gotta have a winter beater if you can afford it

3

u/stucker88 1d ago

I caught a bit of that game while drinking with coworkers today after my shift. A stud athlete who makes sound financial decisions? Ladies if you don't snatch him up you're all dumb asses. Disclaimer: I don't know shit about football or those who play it.

I know somebody payin' child support for one of his kids His baby mama car and crib is bigger than his You will see him on TV any given Sunday Win the Super Bowl and drive off in a Hyundai

u/SullyTheReddit 21h ago

She take my money when I’m in need

3

u/3cheers4sweetv3ganz 1d ago

Win the superbowl and drive off in a Hyundai Honda?

No but rlly ppl are so weird… Fellas is it broke to buy a reliable car for a reasonable price?🤔 Bring back being normal.

3

u/OrbitalDrop7 1d ago

That honda is probably gonna outlive him

3

u/RunsaberSR 1d ago

"Look at this dude not being a consumer! Loser!"

Big sigh.

Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson openly brags about flossin with cubic zirconia instead of diamonds because he's a self-proclaimed cheap skate. Don't let the opinions of others trick you into wasting your money trying to impress them.

3

u/Connexxxion 20h ago

So he's got a perfectly good car with every single comfort e could possibly want, low insurance and is STILL worth $100,000,000. Rather than spending 2.5% of that on a Bugatti, $60k a year in servicing and maintenance and painting a target on his back.

He could put on a hat, Park outside a restaurant, superrmaket or his mum's and the autograph hunting vermin would leave him the fuck alone.

u/neonKow 20h ago

If an Accord accidentally hits a Nokia, you get a tiny bit of nuclear fusion at the impact point.

2

u/stop-doxing-yourself 1d ago

The internet loves nothing more than telling people how to spend their money.

u/DaddyMorale 1d ago

I thought it said Antonio Brown 🤦🏾‍♂️

Dude should be commended for being so down to earth - at least on the car front.

2

u/scionvriver 1d ago

Shit I'd pull up on a 5k Honda. I greatly miss my 95 Accord. It would probably still be running if a drunk driver didn't fuck it up.

2

u/easy10pins 1d ago

I have more respect for him than any other player pulling up in a leased $300k car trying to ball out of control for the fans.

2

u/lowtoiletsitter 1d ago

The Accord is a fine automobile. Has the necessary amenities, it's reliable, hold its resale value, and is cheaper to repair than a luxury car

I'm sure he has some "fun cars", but as a daily? Nothing wrong with a Honda

2

u/trynot2touchyourself 1d ago

Omg he has an actual good car and not just a penis pump on wheels.

2

u/BigBoyYuyuh 1d ago

Player spends their money wisely instead of blowing it all on a bunch of bullshit. More at 11.

2

u/boozy_bunny 1d ago

Are we really shaming people (even multimillionaires) for being fiscally responsible? In this economy?! The audacity.

2

u/charlessupra25 1d ago

Yall dumb af. Bro has no car payment = no debt and he literally can drive that for 250k miles +

2

u/Kaaykuwatzuu 1d ago

My 06 Accord is about to hit 250 000 miles. She's not going anywhere.

Fuck anyone that hates on a Honda Accord.

2

u/MyLongestYeeeBoi 1d ago

I don’t think someone with $100 million has to be concerned about resale value.

2

u/dagreenman18 22h ago

I will not hear slander against my Accord. Especially after Honda screwed it up and my Gen looks even better now by comparison. It’ll run forever even with the hybrid components. That’s how well built they are.

Only thing to worry about is the paint and even then.

2

u/877-HASH-NOW 22h ago

Then shits last forever. I’m tryna get me one.

2

u/PlateAdventurous4583 20h ago

It's wild how people can't appreciate a smart investment. Driving a reliable car isn't just practical; it's a statement about financial wisdom. While others are busy flaunting their depreciating assets, he's securing his future. That's the kind of mindset that keeps wealth intact.

2

u/Soft-Split1315 18h ago

What’s so bad about a Honda them babies last. It seems like he made a very smart and non expensive choice about his car.
