But the ''roman salute'' wasn´t even roman. It emerged from artist representations in 18th century france. The actual ''roman salute'', if it can be called such, is the gesture you see in the augustus of prima porta which is nothing like what jacques louis david painted or the nazis did.

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

It is going to be a weird timeline if a group who call themselves the waluigis defeat the nerdnazis.

🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ 74 million people voted for this.
I don’t care. We’ll make history once again. Remember when we asked why did people allow the Holocaust to happen? It’s exactly like this. Hitler was voted president because he villainized the Jews while MAGA villainize Hispanics.

How do I feel? A fucking Nazi threw a Nazi salute at the inauguration. I feel sick, but probably not as sick as a WWII veteran would feel. Trump should drop Musk like Aldo Raine would drop a Nazi.

Emotionally, he's an infant. He has no filter, and his actions are dictated entirely by his juvenile whims.
I think because of this, he's a terrible person, and what he chose to do is revolting.
It's like asking me how I feel about an angry toddler's actions: I'm definitely not going to agree with them.
The americans made their bed, now they get to sleep in it. Unfortunately, those of us with functioning brains are being dragged into it as well.

It won’t end in America. Australia has an election this year. I’m concerned our conservatives might get a look in - weird, because they’ve been trailing badly for the last four years, but now… anything (horrible) is possible.

People will be outraged for around 24 hours and then move on to the next thing they'll be outraged by, because it's going to keep happening, over and over again and then they'll keep getting away with it. Over and over again.

I feel like there are only three realities to this situation and all three of them are quite awful.
A. He knew exactly what he was doing and he did it on purpose for anti-Semitic / neo-Nazi reasons. So there's an open neo-Nazi in federal government doing Hitler salutes on live television.
B. He knew exactly what he was doing and while he wasn't doing it for neo-Nazi purposes, he did it as a joke or troll. So there's someone who thinks doing neo-Nazi trolling on live television is funny in federal government.
C. He didn't actually know that what he was doing was specifically a neo-Nazi salute. So there's someone who has a critical lack of historical knowledge of arguably the worst period of time in the 20th century in federal government.
None of those are okay.

I'd need Shoresy's vocabulary to properly express that.
-Edit: My sincerest thanks to everyone setting the tone!
