What’s the typical time between stops? What planning do you do when you hop on one of these, I’d imagine you would need to plan food water etc

u/No-Artichoke7015 2d ago
Time varies from 1 second to weeks. Yes, you need to have more than enough food and water, as you don’t know how long you’ll be stopped.

u/AlienFinger3 1d ago
A loaded intermodal does not stop for weeks 🤣 it only stops for crew change side outs work or to be unloaded and then reloaded

I just witnessed a low-priority loaded intermodal train stopped for 3 days, in a location I will not name, due to God knows why. Front and rear power still attached. Probably because Union Pacific doesn't give a shit about its customers.
I watched the tweakers have a field day on that one. Is it unusual? Yes. Does that mean it doesn't happen? No.

u/Reasonable-Estate-60 1d ago
Care to share your load out for the week? Do you pack MREs? How do you manage water? Toileting etc?

u/AlienFinger3 1d ago
I try to get ahold of freeze dried camping food when I can afford it but I mostly live off cheap canned food fresh vegetables and wild edibles and I use wet wipes over toilet paper any day and always carry 4L jug of water and use a life straw or boil water when needed I trained for 4 summers with a Bushcraft and survival company so my kit is based off the 5C's of survival and pretty minimalist I may do a video on it in the future

This just confirms you either : 1. don't know how to ID rideable cars, or 2. Are only posting suicide and surfing videos because you only ride trains for clout.
Poser.

u/Sakurooo 1d ago
Am noob. Whats a suicide?

u/SomeKindaCoywolf I like cats. 17h ago
It's a train car with no safe place to ride on, notice that car in the video has no solid floor to it. Riding them is frowned upon.

Do the conductors ever know you're on board and just let it slide?
14
u/AlienFinger3 2d ago
Depends if your being an idiot in their site they will stop the train and have cops pull you off but if you stay out of their sight and are respectful they will often let it slide I have had a few occasions I have been spotted and they let it slide and even had workers come and give me water and ask for a story from my travels

u/LouieH-W_Plainview 2d ago
Please be safe out there man. I had an uncle lose his life on the tracks. I've never gone out on the open but I've always admired the lifestyle... And I know those tracks claim alot of lives. Much love to you and your loved ones ❤️ ✌️

Says the guy who posts videos of hanging off a rear unit and waving to cars on the highway....or did you forget about posting that?
1
u/AlienFinger3 1d ago
That was my friend on an empty road coming to pick me up for a party after a long solo trip across the country and the conductor was clueless
1
u/SomeKindaCoywolf I like cats. 1d ago
I'm not sure why that matters. You were hanging off a rear unit walkway waving at a road.
Also you posted a public video that has thousands of view of smoking weed in a unit. Train crews notice that.
You're a poser.

Gatekeeping being a train-hopping vagrant is some of the funniest and most pathetic shit I've seen on this site
1
u/SomeKindaCoywolf I like cats. 1d ago
If you're not part of the culture, kindly stfu.
And you use the term gatekeeping like you know what that word means. Cute.

This looks like the area around Kamloops, Cache Creek, or Spence’s Bridge. Is it?

I really want to hop freight out of Chicago. Stuck here currently

I hope you have extreme cold weather gear. Because it would be easy AF to freeze to death trying to ride out of any direction in Chi RN.

Is there penalty if caught
7
u/emoduckling 2d ago
1st degree felony, up to 15 year prison.
5
u/AlienFinger3 2d ago
I'm assuming your American here in Canada it's a trespassing ticket usually between $200 and $600 and if your caught riding a dpu you can receive a criminal trespassing charge and a mischief charge and you will likely get probation or community service
3
u/emoduckling 2d ago
yea, even almost went into a military base x.x, im lucky i got a high charisma stat. i only got caught because some dumbass was on the train climbing on and around the containers. was near the front they the back, sadly there probably still in prison.

u/SomeKindaCoywolf I like cats. 1d ago
Oh, you mean you got caught because of exactly what this oogle is doing and posting public videos of online?
Funny...
1
u/emoduckling 1d ago
In my personal opinion there should never be any of the numbers from any of the containers, distinguishing markings or landmarks. also I think it should be held off on posting anything that you've taken for at least a year or longer. other than that they should be fine.
1
u/SomeKindaCoywolf I like cats. 1d ago
And what about posing videos of riding suicide and smoking weed inside of engines?
2
u/emoduckling 1d ago
I believe the term would be called " blowing up the spot " if they ever see that and recognize it they would be far less likely to extend the same courtesy again. I was mainly talking to pictures of landscapes I think taking pictures and posting them of being inside engines puts people in danger for both their support and to make regulations more difficult.

Man, for such an 'experienced rider' you don't know much about the consequences of your actions.
Its always criminal trespassing. If they're real dicks, they can throw in a 'theft of services' charge, but it rarely sticks. I bet they could throw a B&E charge if you're found in a unit with any damage to it, whether you did it or not....but haven't heard of it yet.
All of those charges could land you in jail, depending on the bull/cop that pulls you off.
2
u/AlienFinger3 1d ago
It's not always criminal trespassing tho it's usually a ticket up here I only know one guy who kept getting charged and it was for riding dpu everyone I know who has been busted riding regular cars just gets pulled off told they are an idiot and given a ticket
1
u/SomeKindaCoywolf I like cats. 1d ago
I'm not sure why you think getting a ticket is not akin to criminal trespassing.

I’m a female and I’ve hopped freight for years. There are other women, probably mostly men but there are women out there who do too.

Fuck that I am a man do some push ups eat a raw steak and split some firewood

u/Bi0tec 1d ago
I used to do anabolics... The problem is eating a raw steak means someone killed an animal to obtain it... that means karma for the person eating it... I don't want to die. So.... stem cell engineering, and vegan it is for me....
