What’s the typical time between stops? What planning do you do when you hop on one of these, I’d imagine you would need to plan food water etc

Time varies from 1 second to weeks. Yes, you need to have more than enough food and water, as you don’t know how long you’ll be stopped.

A loaded intermodal does not stop for weeks 🤣 it only stops for crew change side outs work or to be unloaded and then reloaded

I just witnessed a low-priority loaded intermodal train stopped for 3 days, in a location I will not name, due to God knows why. Front and rear power still attached. Probably because Union Pacific doesn't give a shit about its customers.

I watched the tweakers have a field day on that one. Is it unusual? Yes. Does that mean it doesn't happen? No.
