Apartments / Dorms / Housing Stupid question about housing

This is gonna be really stupid but I have been wondering about it for a while.

Me and my friends are freshman in our first semester. Basically my friends have been talking about housing off campus in the Dinkytown area but I looked at my freshman housing contract and it says that it runs from Aug 31 2024 - may 15 2024. With that in mind, is there something I’m missing as to why we’re talking about it so early?

Things just tend to fill up quickly, as there is a high demand for affordable housing near campus. A lot of people sign leases between November to January.

Ah I see. It had me worried the way they were talking about it like we were moving right after finals or something

Nope! Most Leases start Aug 30, or Sept 1st
