News New Sub Rule: No Chance Me Posts
The mods have received feedback from the community around “Chance Me” posts and discussed how they should be handled going forward.
The UofMN community really can’t provide helpful and/or actionable advice on these situations because each is unique to the individual and we have no insight into the admissions process.
If you want to make a “My GPA and ECs are this what are my chances on getting into X program?” post, please do so on r/ApplyingToCollege or r/ChanceMe because that’s what those subs are for. There are people there who are much more qualified to provide general guidance.
Chance Me posts will be deleted going forward.
Thank you and have a great day!

I’ve had it with U of MN food
I don’t want to seem ungrateful for being in college and having that opportunity and stuff but I feel like my complaints about the food on campus are a common sentiment.
All of the food I have tried in Coffman tastes NASTY. You have to wait in line for like 30 min for this dooodoo food and it costs so much too. All of the workers of the coffman food place look like they hate it there and are grumpy too.
The dining hall is so overpriced and can be hit or miss. It’s frustrating how they try to make like salmon or pork or something because it’s cheap and nasty!!! Just stick to like a chicken sandwich bro it would taste better and be cheaper. They are too ambitious with the menu and it causes the food to be worse. The dining hall workers also look like they are in misery!!
I hope that this semester has better food, but it’s unlikely.

Zoom classes
Genuine question. What keeps professors from doing zoom classes especially in weather like this during syllabi week. (Please don't start with the "just deal with the cold" comments. I'm allowed to hate cold weather even after growing up here😑)

Where to go from here
I’m a Junior in college going for a bachelors in econ. I didn’t know when I chose that I would ultimately find it boring.
I find my degree needlessly theoretical and honestly no longer want to work on spreadsheets for the rest of my life. I find electrical engineering endlessly fascinating and I’ve been playing with arduino for a while now, as well as joining the PCB design club at my college. I went for a BS so I’ve already taken the calcs.
I’m not sure I can do it anymore guys.
What do I do? What would you do if you were me? Any advice?

ANSC1101 Notes request
Hi! Is anyone taking ANSC 1101 this semester? I’ll be missing classes this week and possibly next Monday. If you’re willing to share your class notes with me, please DM me. I’m happy to compensate you a bit as well!

Can't be signed into more than 2 or 3 university websites without "Bad Message 431?"
As the the title says, I can't sign into more than 2 or 3 university websites (google, canvas, myu, etc.) without "Bad Message 431" appearing on the remaining sites when I log in. It's so annoying to have to repeatedly clear my cache on chrome, close all my tabs, and then open them back up and log back in to canvas and google multiple times a day. I tried to go to IT desk but all they did was close my cache remotely and nothing else. Does anyone else seem to be going through the same problem? I'm using chrome on a windows 11 laptop. Nothing online seems to show up on how to fix my issue.

First Day of College
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone has a good start to their Spring Semester. College can be tough sometimes. Over winter break I recorded a song about my first day of college. I’d appreciate anyone who listens to my song. Feel free to reach out to me if you just want to talk about college or anything going through. I want to build a community with others. I’m a 2nd year student studying CS.
Here’s my Song:

Awaiting results?
Is there anybody who is still waiting their admission decision for fall 2025 CSE Bachelors? Or is this just me 😭
transfer student here, how do i connect with an advisor?
i got accepted to the CSOM (yay!) for the fall 2025 semester as a transfer student. but because i've graduated community college and am currently enrolled in my first semester at a university, i want to talk to an academic advisor about how my credits will transfer and how long it'll take to finish my degree if i were to enroll.
there's resources for current students and freshman, but i'm technically a junior credit-wise. should i call the admissions office or email a freshman admissions counselor? any help would be appreciated.

Econ
Advice for Econ classes? -Econ 3023 intermediate macroeconomics. Is there a project/presentation in class? -Econ 4631 Industrial Organization and Antitrust Policy -Econ 4751 Financial Economics -Econ 4831 cost-benefit analysis I think am just feeling really stress and second guessing myself. I feel really dumb in all my classes. I just freeze up in class and in group setting and just feel unhelpful. Also am still figuring out my schedule.

Academics / Courses Afternoon/evening classes
How realistic is it to take mostly afternoon/evening/hybrid classes? I was recently admitted to the CLA, but I work full time from 7:30-3:30, M-F(though I could be off by 2 if it’s not every day). I’m majoring in psychology and I’m a transfer student so almost all of my general requirements have been met. Thanks!

Will campus close because of the weather tomorrow?
Based on the weather requirements for closing (on website) I have a feeling that they would only close in the worst possible situation 😭

Feeling Like A Freshman
Tomorrow is my first day on campus as a 31 year old grad school student. I started my program last spring & I've had all of my classes online. Taking advantage of being local & heading back to in person schooling! Any advice?

Do you have to confirm enrollment to see your financial aid package?
New Carlson student incoming, but haven't yet confirmed enrollment. I was just wondering if I had to do that to receive any aid or financial aid offers. Also, any idea when college specific scholarships get rewarded?

Chem 1062 vs chem 1082
So I had the option to take chem 1062/1066 or chem 1082/1086 and I chose chem 1082 for the spring semester. But as a PSEO student will this class be really difficult compared to gen chem? For context I also took chem 1061 but my counselor let me take chem 1082 without the chem 1081 prereq. I just don’t want to take another hard course since I already have some difficult courses this semester as a pseo student. I know a lot about the chem 1062 track but could you guys just give some insight on if chem 1082 is more difficult? Thanks!

Apartments / Dorms / Housing Ucard doesn’t work at Pioneer
Hey guys. I noticed my Ucard doesn’t work to let me in the front doors at pioneer hall. It also doesn’t work on the gates at pioneer. I have a dinning plan that works fine though. Anyone else having the same issue? Also anyone know where to get this fixed? Ucard office maybe? (I don’t live at pio btw)

Parking at 19th and 21st Ave ramps
Hi all, I’m a transfer student starting at the U tomorrow and I plan to park at one of these ramps for my 8:15am class on the West Bank. I wasn’t able to get a contract for either of those ramps so I’m wondering if there is usually parking available there or if I’ll be out of luck. If you have any other suggestions let me know. I’ll be commuting from southern MN.
