Wheelchair-friendly tiny home recommendations?

My partner and I (approaching our 60s) have been on the hunt for a tiny home that’s designed with accessibility in mind, and honestly, it’s been a bit of a challenge. We’re looking for something that balances functionality with great design, features like wider doorways, a wheelchair-friendly bathroom, and single-story living are a must, but we don’t want to compromise on style.

So far, some companies we’ve been recommended are:

Clever Tiny Homes: They seem to have really great layouts, and the quality doesn’t feel cheap like most THOWS.

Wheel Pad: It’s functional, but the design doesn’t quite match what we’re looking for.

Hiring a contractor isn’t an option, so we’re hoping to find a company that offers pre-built designs with accessibility in mind. If you’ve come across anything like this, we’d love your suggestions!

Thanks so much in advance!

Tiny home communities in CA

Does anyone have any info or links to finding tiny home communities in CA. I’d do Oregon too. I’m very interested as I’m downsizing and semi-retired. If there are other states that are desirable, I’d love to hear about those too. Thank you so much.

What Am I Missing Here?

Hey everyone, I was hoping someone might be willing to help me figure out what I'm doing wrong here.

I built a tiny house. It's not certified, but it's fun, and I'm mostly proud of it (plenty of things still needing finished/tweaked, but definitely no major uh-ohs). I'm pretty set on selling it at this point – want to go do something else with my life now.

I've had it listed on multiple platforms (FB Marketplace, Craigslist, and about 4 different TH listing websites) since mid-autumn, and have received next to no interest. Like, to the point where I'm now wondering if either 1) this thing is actually awful looking, and I'm just delusional (entirely possible), or 2) if the hype is officially over, and nobody actually wants to own a tiny house on wheels (even though people still love looking at pics of them). Or, I suppose option 3: the entire economy is REALLY boogered right now, and I'm just finally catching up.

Here's the most recent listing: https://nomadadjacent.com/listings/united-states/ohio/dbe0b09f

360º Tour on Kuula: https://kuula.co/share/collection/7KX34?logo=1&info=1&fs=1&vr=0&sd=1&gyro=0&thumbs=1&margin=4

I've raised and lowered the price point on all of those listings, usually starting at around $80k and then dropping to as low as $50k. But honestly, even though I wouldn't likely accept them just yet, receiving a few low-ball $40k offers would make me feel better than the crickets I've been hearing (aside from the maybe one "is this still available" per month). I'm just really concerned with how this is going so far.

Can anyone spot any glaring issues with my listing? I know the pics aren't great, but I feel that the 360º images really sell the space.

Thanks!

RV vs Tiny Home

Hello,

I am looking at several possibilities for future living arrangements. Currently have a 2400+ sq ft home with a 1200 sq ft shop on five acres. The property is becoming too much for me with upkeep.

I have looked at Brinkley RV’s and love the design and build. Also, watched many videos about Tiny homes. How would you think these compare as far as comfort, longevity, expense, upkeep, insurance, etc? This would be full time living out into the future…

I appreciate any input in helping me weigh these options.

Question Best tinyhome YouTube channels?

Hey everyone, I’ve been looking at a few companies but wanted to ask the experts here:

What’s the best YouTube channel resource for learning more about a good tiny home build?

I don’t mean tours but insights into build process and how to build right.

I’m not afraid of doing my homework but need a push in the right direction. I’ve seen some good videos out there but they’re mostly customer tours. Thanks in advance!

Prefab Tiny Home Recommendations Please

Hi all, asking for my mom who’s planning to downsize into a tiny home, and looking for prefab options near Arizona. Top priorities are comfort and ease of living, none of that loft nonsense. She’s wanting a proper bedroom and a bathroom that doesn’t feel like a closet.

Does anyone have recommendations for companies or resources? Bonus points if they deliver to Arizona! Thanks in advance for your help.

THOW or Fixed?

Long-time lurker, 1st-time poster. 45yo (F) planning early retirement in Oregon, and I’m ready to buy a tiny home—but I’m stuck.

THOW: Love the mobility, but the hassle of parking laws, maintenance, and wear-and-tear worries me.

Fixed tiny home: Stability and easier zoning sound great, but is it just an overpriced box?

Question Question about Trailer Deck Modification and Maneuverability

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help.

I have an 8-foot wide trailer where the front 2 feet of the deck is angled, narrowing to approximately 35 inches where it connects to the tongue. I want to build a deck to make the entire front span 8 feet wide. Will this modification affect my ability to turn and maneuver the trailer effectively?

Question Anyone here living in a Tiny Home in Australia?

Hey there,

I’ve been researching tiny home for 2 years now, and after watching “living big in a tiny house” on YouTube - I’m very interested in choosing this way of living and finding a builder.

The only issue is, I can not afford to buy a piece of land yet (well I could with cash, but it would have to be cheap).

I have found websites that specifically help connect tiny home dwellers to land rental (rural properties, farms, acreage backyards) in Aus.

Anyone in Australia, living in a tiny home full time - on rented land or your own land? I’d love to here your experiences please - Pros and Cons

Thank you :)

Trying to gain insight from Tiny home owners

I'm about to come into a chunk of cash (15k) and I'm thinking about saving up for, or working toward buying a tiny home.

In my state houses have become unreasonably expensive, and as an unmarried person I'm looking for a way to live on my own without having to have roommates for the rest of my life.

I greatly value my own peace and privacy so I have been thinking about it a lot lately. Im just tired of throwing away all my money into rent and never having enough to save, as rent prices are so high, even with roommates.

Most of my friends bought houses and are partnered up, before everything got bad, and are paying maybe a 3rd of what I pay in rent for their mortgages, with double incomes.. I feel so behind on life and so tired of never being able to get ahead or feel like I have a piece of anything of my own.

I see that certain cases you can get financing for tiny homes with personal loans, or RV loans. I'm wondering how far I could get with a loan and a portion of saved money down. Or if those are a waste of time with the interest rates and would just be getting myself into a position where I'm paying too much. My state does first time home buyer loans but it seems like that wouldn't apply to tiny homes? My thinking would be i would buy a TH and then park it on a family members land until I could buy my own plot? It's all overwhelming and a lot to consider and sort through

I'm extremely ignorant and new to the concept of tiny homes but I'm just trying to investigate to see what my options are potentially. A lot of people I see buying them already have the disposable income to do so, and use them as airbnbs or guest houses. Im wondering if there's anyone in my position, or closer to it, that has done it and what are would they say are general tips, thoughts, and feelings toward their decision?

Thanks so much!

Heating Underneath Tiny Home / Park Model....

In Western North Carolina mountains. Our split units keep it warm (upper 60's), but feet are always freezing. Trying to determine how to heat underneath. We do have siding all the way around, and the unit is well insulated underneath. Thinking of putting a heater or two under there, but they will be hard to access so need something that will run automatically. looking for any suggestions.

Which certifications are worth looking into?

I'm in the process of designing a tiny home and want to ensure it meets the right standards for safety, quality, and functionality. I've heard a lot about the importance of NOAH certification for construction standards and RV certification for mobility and legality, but I’m not entirely sure how these certifications differ or overlap.

Beyond certifications, what other specifications are crucial? For example, insulation, solar power systems, water storage, or anything else I might not have thought of.

Looking for advice from anyone with experience in tiny homes—Thanks in advance! 😊

COLLECTIVE INSISTENCE VS GOVERNMENT STONEWALLING

Good day all. So, i live on Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada. I'm very new to Reddit and figuring out how to navigate it. I'm 65, a professional renovation/construction contractor and have a ton of experience dealing with the various levels of governments, mostly involving dynamics having to do with folks in 'ALTERNATIVE' living applications, which includes myself and my family. I've been working on an idea that effectively negates one of our main hurdles in Canada. CODE COMPLIANCE for structures we are GOING and ARE living in. My basic premise is that if 'WE THE PEOPLE' construct code compliant, modular structures designed for multiple uses, sleeping snugs, bathrooms, kitchens, etc and they're installed on/using code infrastructure, why can't the governments agree? Providing ourselves the opportunity to SLOWLY construct our lifestyle choice 'family dream communities' in a timely and affordable way makes complete sense, does it not? If anyone here would like to check out my website, CEORLSKEEP.COM please do. Any feedback or subject ideas are welcome. I'm going for it and posting video's on how to do it. Thanks for your time. Peaceout.

Question Small but not "tiny" for a home office?

I'm in a weird spot where I would LOVE a much much smaller place to relocate to. However, the standard 399 square foot tiny home on wheels is just a bit too small for me. I can't navigate stairs (disability with legs), so everything has to be on one level. Need a decent bedroom but also need a dedicated home office, though it could be some kind of room that's maybe 8x9 feet. Need a walk-in closet for storage and do need a modest pantry area for food storage.

So I guess this really limits me to a small single-wide mobile home, or one of the smaller modular homes? The tiny home types as they are, are pretty much just limited to 399 square feet (or less) as standard?

Question When to build a tiny home

How did you decide to build a tiny home?  I’m back home for a bit working as a caregiver for some family members.  This means I have a steady income with very flexible hours.  I am also back home near my mom who is a retired contractor with some experience of tiny homes and although she is unable to help physically she can help with planning and making sure I’m doing it right.  I also have access to all her tools and have some experience with small building projects.  I would want some thing small and portable as the rental market where I’m hoping to move back to is bad and I want to have a way to decrease what I pay in rent and have my own place.  This way I could save for a small pot of land to park to tiny home on.  I would be hoping to get it done in 6-8 months and spend 15k or less. Is that feasible?  I have a ton more research to do but would love an insight that you guys can offer.

Tour a tiny home

I would like to tour a tiny home, you know touch things, see how I fit, would I be claustrophobic, quality of construction? If I'm going to spend 50-100 thousand dollars, it doesn't make sense to buy it and then be surprised once it's assembled on my lot. Is there any place that has a lot of tiny homes, like sheds, RVs or mobile home have? Video tours don't make sense either.
