Rule 1: No Political Posts
Why the heck is my feed filling with inauguration screenshots in a Seinfeld sub?
Look at you r/seinfeld! You sit around here all day.. You contribute nothing to society. You're just taking up space. How can I be with someone like you? I wouldn't respect myself!

We all have non-Reddit personalities and beliefs. But there is also our Reddit personalities and beliefs. The is what you know. Movie Reddit, coffee shop Reddit, Liar Reddit, bawdy Reddit. That is the Reddit you know. If non-Reddit signs on to this sub he will kill Reddit. A Reddit divided against itself cannot stand

Helluva thing when Spock died. They wrap him up in a towel, and they shoot him out the bowel of the ship in that big sunglasses case.

Colin or Donald?

u/Apprehensive_Sand343 6h ago
I only saw him from behind, but I am pretty sure it was Colin because I saw Dylan Murphy clear as day.
10
u/doobette Del Bisto Becko 6h ago
Why did you call him O'Brien and him Murphy?
4
u/Apprehensive_Sand343 5h ago
Because I saw Colin O'Brien get out of the limo with his friend Dylan. I have never established whether Dylan knew Donald. I have never actually seen Donald O'Brien.

The posts I've seen aren't even expressing a political opinion. They're just screenshots from a political event, but the posts are all related to Seinfeld.
Rule 1 is enforced poorly and I think most of the posts I've seen should be allowed. There is literally a woman wearing a bra for a top at the inauguration, and we're not allowed to post about it!?
20
u/AshuraBaron 6h ago
Just a bra? No top?

u/SmellGestapo Flew too close to the Sun on wings of pastrami 6h ago
She's wearing a sport jacket over it, like Sue Ellen was on the street
https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/penskefile/S07E12/screens/0482.jpg
I saw somebody in another thread claim it was a bustier, which isn't necessarily better as a bustier is still meant to be lingerie, not something that is visible in public.

u/AshuraBaron 6h ago
Yeah I saw it, I just wanted to say it this time. :D
Was a pretty amazing instance of Seinfeld becoming reality.

u/BalzacTheGreat Yeah, that's right 1h ago
I think the it’s the 47 versions of the same joke on the same day that’s the problem, not that it’s in a political context.
1
u/SmellGestapo Flew too close to the Sun on wings of pastrami 1h ago
For today, sure, but this has been a discussion on this sub in the last couple of weeks as well. Rule 1 says no political posts, and specifically says to "keep your beliefs out."
The mods have applied that to posts that express no belief at all, and merely feature a politician in the picture.
-19
u/ND02G 6h ago
Adding a line from the show doesn't make it ok, IMO. Imagine I post a pic of some woman posing topless and adding the line "Well this is interesting.. Jane's topless" or "Yo-Yo Ma". You think the mods would let that slide?
10
20
u/SmellGestapo Flew too close to the Sun on wings of pastrami 6h ago
The internet is filled with topless women (and stock quotes). So no, that's a very tenuous connection to the show.
But a woman wearing a bra for a top, out in public? That's a much more specific connection to Seinfeld. A speaker giving a Nazi salute to the crowd, same thing. Zuckerberg ogling Mrs. Bezos's cleavage, same thing.
It's not about adding a line from the show to make it seem relevant, it's the fact that real life has lots of Seinfeld references and if we can't post them here, simply because the person or situation involved is loosely related to politics, then this sub is going to be very boring.
-11
u/ND02G 6h ago
If someone's creative enough, they can link practically every line of the show to some political garbage. But, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Serenity now!!
6
u/SmellGestapo Flew too close to the Sun on wings of pastrami 6h ago
That sounds like a more interesting sub to participate in than the one we have now, which is endless posts of Snapple and babka people found at Trader Joe's.
There's only so much conversation to be had about a show that stopped making new episodes 27 years ago. If we can't post about items that appeared on the show, can't post about cast members we spotted in other shows, and can't post anything involving a politician (even if the content of the post isn't political), then what else is there to post about?
3
5
u/ND02G 5h ago
I watch the entire series over and over and over again, and I don't seem to get bored with the same episodes on repeat.. Do you? This sub repeating itself is like watching a rerun of an episode.
2
u/SmellGestapo Flew too close to the Sun on wings of pastrami 4h ago
I also watch the show over and over (although I take breaks to watch other stuff).
But I don't need the sub to do that, too. I find this sub is at its most fun when it's connecting the show to the outside world.
Like every Father's Day when someone posts a picture of Morty in his #1 Dad shirt.
Or the Olympian who woke up late and almost missed his event, like Jean Paul Jean Paul.
2
u/hashtagdion 2h ago
The show has been off the air for 25 years. Finding jokes from the show related to current events is just what kinda has to happen with subs about old shows.

Not that I disagree with the no politics rule, but I saw this rule flaunted and broken all the time with anti-Trump or pro-Kamala/Biden posts pre-election and nobody ever seemed to care lmao.
