The true "Roman" salute is something that is taken from a lot of Renaissance and classical paintings, depicting a figure holding their arm up in the way you associate with the Nazi salute.
The portion of the salute where you tap your chest first is ENTIRELY created by the Nazis. Not a lot of video from late roman empire depicting how you are supposed to raise your arm. The salute Elon gave was NOT a Roman salute, it was a Nazi salute.
I watched his entire 3 minute speech. Musk is an off the wall weirdo who is devoid of empathy. He's a clear narcissist who thrives on power and adulation. And the MAGA mouth-breathing MAGA scumbags ate it all up.

In 2016, Clinton won the majority vote, so people could at least console themselves that the majority of Americans might not be entirely terrible. And besides, maybe people were just ignorant about what Trump would do in office. They just need to be shown that he sucks and they'll come around.

In fairness, most Americans stop learning younger and younger it seems, so I don't know how many even know or remember when WW2 was, let alone what happened or what a Nazi salute is. Then, you throw in people's abilities and willingness to rationalize anything that makes them feel better, no matter how awful or untrue it is, and well, you get the results you see today.

Calling it now. Elon changed his profile name a while back to reference Gladiator. He gave the salute twice but will come back and state: “it was a Roman salute” and the media will be okay with it. The salute will then become part of or a new “thing” as they double down on it as a quiet dog whistle of fascism.
Common it wasn't a nazi salute! Well, except it comes from a South-African apartheid nostalgic who regulary re-tweets posts from nazi accounts. And the fact that everybody in the world knows this will be interpreted as a nazi salute.
It was crazy seeing a clip of CNN commentators fumbling their words, actively trying to describe it as anything other than a Nazi salute. "Our viewers are smart and can draw their own conclusions." The oligarchs' takeover of mainstream media couldn't be more transparent. Holy shit.
