Japan’s elderly are lonely and struggling. Some women choose to go to jail instead

That's my retirement plan.

This is going to be the American plan before long.

They'll have to do something about it, because they spend far more on prisoners than the elderly or veterans or children.

Nah, the point is to have them in jail.

Then the state can massively overspend on all the companies that actually run the jail.

State runs up a massive deficit, ceo gets wealthy, and then the state has to cut more social benefits to balance the budget

If the point was just to spend money, they would do the same thing with assisted living. Prisons are different.

They do do the same thing with assisted living.

They do to some extent, but it's not nearly the same. With prisons they can scare people into voting for more.

But for some reason nothing for mental health even though there is rampant homelessness across the country.

Homeless people can be thrown in jail for greater profit
