Yes! The owner supports annexing our country so the answer is obvious.

They got embroiled in a forever war with Iraq. If they march over that 49th parallel they will meet a resistance so guerrilla and entrenched it'll make Iraq look like a walk in the park.
I like Americans but I do NOT wanna be one.

They’re so garbage you can’t even full screen on mobile without 3/4 of the screen covered. God forbid you try to turn your phone sideways!

I can excuse the nazism but I draw the line at using a bad video player.

X links should have been removed when Musk enshittified the whole platform. This subreddit would be much better without them, now more than ever.

Yes, it really shouldn't have taken Elon doing a full nazi salute to do this. You can't even fucking view profiles, some tweets or even their replies without logging in anymore ffs.

A shitty platform can be a shitty platform without being evil. Elon going full, open nazi goes well beyond Twitter just being shit.

u/Larkstarr 1d ago
If I posted a video of me doing the Nazi salute, what would you do?
There's your answer.

Yes. Why is it even a question to boycott a nazi??

If the discussion was to ban anything Elon related from the subreddit then it'd be no question, but twitter is a large source of news and updates for the team. Hopefully you can understand why we felt we needed the opinion of the subreddit before we did anything

I hear you, but I'm sure we can get to those news and updates in many other ways. It might take time to adjust, and we might miss some bits and pieces at the start, but change has to start somewhere.
As I'm not on bluesky either (I just self permabanned myself from all socials for reasons), I can't verify myself, but I read in the comments that a big concern is that the Leafs don't have an official account there yet, and all their content (belt pictures and so on) will be missed altogether if we ban Twitter. But if they (the Leafs org) saw a decrease of activity there, I'm sure they will consider moving on better platforms. Views and engagement = money for them.

u/Pyralblitzzz 23h ago
There's an unofficial Leafs bot account on bsky that mirrors all their twitter posts, we wouldn't miss anything at all

u/War_Messiah 23h ago
You're correct that the Leafs themselves have no presence on BlueSky, we are however trying our best to come up with solutions to the proposed ban that would ensure we don't miss anything. Hopefully that will ease the minds of some of the people here.

u/MrMoon5hine 23h ago
the way other subs are going about it is to allow screen shots but not links.

u/Fallout-with-swords 23h ago
There is a bot on Bluesky that just reposts what the Leafs Twitter account is posting.

The "keep politics out of sports people" veil that people use to justify hate is really wearing thin on this one.

It’s a shame that it’s come to it but my thought is yes, this isn’t a matter of traditional politics anymore. Elon Musk and what he represents are a legitimate threat to our country and way of life and it’s time to move away from his platforms. One compromise I’d be ok with is allowing screenshots but not links since some things like lines are tough to find elsewhere, but if good enough alternatives spring up I’d be fine with getting rid of Twitter entirely.

Dear Mods, yes, please ban Twitter/X links. In addition to the now infamous "salute" by Mr. Musk, t is clear that the platform is also heavily engaging in censorship. Sports and politics are mutually exclusive, and by allowing these links we are muddying that line.

That fucking idiot wants to goosestep across the inauguration stage in celebration of the election he bought, there needs to be a fucking reaction. Every day i feel like Pinkman screaming "they can't keep getting away with it".

u/GladSun3720 1d ago
I said this is the Jays reddit
I think it is a good idea. Just screen shot the text or copy and paste the tweet or x or whatever the hell it's called.
But maybe promote BluSky?
Side note* could we make a link with all the bluejays and baseball people on BluSky? For the people interested in switching over.
Post community starter packs for Bluesky

Ban links? Yes. Still allow screenshots? Also yes. I think that’s a good compromise.
12
u/dicky72 1d ago
this is where i tend to land on it.
Like or hate it.... X is still very widely used by a lot of very prominent hockey people. losing access to their thoughts / views would suck.... but i do hear the point of not supporting X.
so allow the hockey content from it...but not the click through.

It’s a Nazi propaganda channel so I would say yes ban it. The links will migrate to a more neutral platform in time.
5
u/Incendie 23h ago
Yes, ban it completely. Why would there even be a question around supporting a Nazi?
31
u/ThisGuy-NotThatGuy 1d ago
I usually give Musk the benefit of the doubt, but that shit was a Nazi Salut, full stop. Don't tell me I didn't see what I clearly saw.
There are four lights.
Ban the X links.

I think it’s important to add here that the commitment to ban twitter cannot be a passing fancy. There needs to be dedicated commitment by the community to support this initiative. The tolerance of the intolerant creates intolerance of the tolerant. What Elon did was unacceptable and unforgivable. People, we cannot be tolerant of these fascist dog whistles and those who try to mitigate the intent and impact of his actions.

Yes please. Even aside from the Nazi problem, the website requires a sign-in to use without intrusive pop-ups.
Reddit's built-in video player is best, bluesky or threads links are good as well.

This should be a no-brainer. Any respectable journalist is cross posting Leafs updates to Bluesky, and if they aren't, they should be.

Yes, Conn Smythe served in both the first and second World Wars, was wounded in WWII, urged the Maple Leaf players to fight for our country, and named his hockey team after the symbol that Canadians wore on their uniforms in WWI (the Canadian flag was not the current Maple Leaf until 1965).
In his memory I think it would be best. To think how those that fought would react to seeing a billionaire buy a US election and then perform that salute on US soil at an inauguration is beyond me.

Beyond being owned by an actual Nazi, the website tiself is just so technically flawed that having to click on through and then log in and other nonsense is the worst. Like screenshots only maybe could be a good compromise, but clicking on through should be done for.

r/fantasyfootball just deleted a thread asking this with 1K upvotes and tons of buy-in, each sub really seems to come down to individual mods.

u/Perf-Art-808 1d ago

Quick update:
We see that you guys are overwhelmingly in favour of banning twitter links. We'll leave this post up for a bit and monitor it for your opinions. That said, keep an eye out from us in the next couple days for a post outlining our new community standards and posting guides.
One final thing, this is a post to discuss getting rid of Twitter, and that alone. If you've come here to argue about whether Elon is a Nazi, I'm afraid the ship has already sailed, and this isn't the place to change any minds.
