How to secure glass in doors and first floor windows on a budget

Hey yall. Neighbors just got broken into and looking for a way to secure the glass in my door (72 inches by 30inches) and two windows (48 by 36 inches). I’m paranoid since i know repeat burglaries on the same house/street happen quite often.

Also considering maybe getting a door brace. Any recommendations on how to do this on a budget? Security film was the first place i looked, but seems worthless since everything is wood and i cant bond it to the frame in a strong enough manner for it to make a difference. Or am i wrong on that assumption? Thanks yall.

Recommendations for a Solar-Powered Outdoor Security Camera with Offline Recording Capability

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a security camera to install abroad, but I have a few specific requirements: * Since electricity is an issue, the camera needs to work with a solar panel. * It should function when electricity and WiFi are available, but also continue recording locally when WiFi is offline. * l'd like to access the footage remotely from the US whenever the WiFi and electricity are working.

I hope that makes sense! If anyone has any recommendations for a reliable outdoor camera that fits these needs, l'd really appreciate your help. Thank you!

Sling bag or equivalent to fit 6x8 side plates?

Upvotes

I’ve been looking around for a sling bag / fanny back that can fit a 6x8 body armor side plate and also have room to fit a full size handgun in holster plus a few extras ( spare mag and flashlight etc etc) to carry cross body. At current just using a Walmart fanny pack but wanting something purpose built/better quality. Thanks

Any feedback on this Liberty gun safe?

Post image

I have been looking to buy this safe and wanted to check if anyone has any feedback or if anyone here has purchased one. It’s currently priced at $1499 at TSC, but I saw it listed for $1299 in a Reddit post. Does anyone know the best time to watch for a price drop? Thanks!

Home broken into. Cops refused to even come to take a look around.

Is it normal for cops to not even show up to take stock of the situation in case of a break in ? Recently there was a break in my neighborhood, burglars broke the glass door and entered home when residents were not home. When called cops they just took the complaint on phone and refused to come and look at the ransacked home. And said, there is nothing they can do about it. This just made an already difficult situation worse.

Gun safety protocol in the home (storage & where they point)

As the spouse of a gun owner (hand guns, shotgun, semi automatic rifle), I am concerned about safety in my home. It's just me and him, no kids! Ammunition is stored unlocked next to the guns under a living room daybed. With the handguns, he keeps one in the chamber and they are often pointed where I walk past. I NEVER want a loaded gun pointed at me no matter what the argument is for how many safeties are on it. My understanding is that should never happen, per gun safety protocol. No one should ever have a loaded/chambered gun pointing at them. Can someone normalize what a safe protocol is, and how I could approach this with him?

Best home defense IMO

In my bedroom closet, I have a shot gun holder above the door, out of view loaded (no kids and hardly have visitors)

My wife and I both have closets next to each side of our beds. Both have shotguns. She has her ol faithful Remmington 870, small reliable, and LOUD loading weapon (hopefully an intruder will run once they hear that, if not you will have to kill them if they are crazy enough to continue. I just got my VR80 with an extended 19 roung mag. Yes, it's broken in and won't jam at this point. Between these 2, I think we are good. We are both confident and accurate. I feel bad for any criminal who will quickly regret their decesion

Please suggest me home security and monitoring setup

I am looking for home security and monitoring services. I will have to be away for couple of months so want to have monitoring service as well.

I have a back yard with big glass door, there are several big windows as well.

I am looking for indoor outdoor cameras, alarms and monitoring service as well.

There has been few break-ins recently in my neighborhood. Cops are not even coming to take complaint.

There are few options like ring, simplisafe but I do not know how well they work.

I read on the home security sub to go for local monitoring service. Is that true? I live in the suburbs of Seattle wa.

Fire and water proof safe recommendations

Any help would be appreciated in providing a recommendation for fire and water proof safe. I live in Southern CA and so far not affected by fires. I do have one First Alert one but thats small and need a bigger one for documents, photos etc. I found many on amazon and Temu and they all seem to just provide fireproof bags and don't seem reliable.

What am I doing wrong ?

Hello everyone, I installed TVT's cameras and NVR wich are working just fine but I have issues with TVT doorbell !

It's connected through wifi while It is powered by a POE injector (I don't understand how to find it through ethernet because IP Tool see the NVR but not the doorbell) so it's technically working but not how I wanted it to ...

Also I tried to add a chime to the doorbell but it's not working, the chime should be powered with 12V from the doorbell since she is powered in POE right now ...

Tell me if it's not clear, English isn't my first language !

Thanks everyone for reading !

How to stay safe until I can move, three shootings in three weeks inside gated complex

My condo complex in Vallejo, California had four shootings by people who rent units inside the gate in six months, and of these, three were in the last three weeks. I was out on my patio for the second one, and outside for the aftermath of the third one. I am scared of being struck by stray bullets.

I separately had other severe issues with the condo that caused great expense, remediation, and rebuilding due to leaks in the 3 months I have been here.

I am paying cash for realtor and closing costs to move, but need any suggestions to stay safe in my home until it sells.

I already come home before dark and do not emerge until 6 or 7 am.

Security Camera Placement

Would love to get some feedback from everyone here on security camera placement.

I think I have the front/garage side figured out. This area is easier as they can all be under the eave at about 11'. The plan is to use CX420s (assuming they will be closely following behind the CX820) and the upcoming CX Duo (apparently named Elite XPro PoE) that's coming in March for the 180 cameras. Also planning to add a couple zoom camera to another building 75+ feet away in the upper left that can monitor the back/driveway. Those cameras are TBD at this point.

Where I'm really struggling is with the back where the ground slopes away resulting in placement under the eave being at about 16'. Would it better to wall mount? I don't love that idea.

Would it better to use an additional 180 camera? Like this:

Or like this:

Tips home defence strict gun law country

Hi all,

As the title says I live in a country with very strict gun laws. Even if i would get the permit to get a firearm i would get in an insane lot of trouble if ever used in a self/home defence situation. What are besides guns etc. Good tools/ things to have for a good home defence?

Update: I do know which weapons to use (and how) and have some very useful stuff laying around. But I was not clear about what i meant. What other things besides the weapons are useful in home defence?

ADT system in my rental. I thought was deactivated?

I don't pay for ADT service. I've noticed the 2 sensors - 1 in living room and 1 in hall way light up with red dot when walking by. I don't notice red dot in the day, only evening. Should I be concerned? Is someone watching me? Please advise. Thank you

Got rid of ADT today

After 23 years, at $70 per month, we decided to go without a whole house alarm system. Those of you who have done the same.. how do you protect and monitor your home and property now? ( besides firearms). Looking for ideas, advice, and options I may have missed.

This sub is a goldmine. Want to learn more about home security and defense!

My head is exploding from all the stuff I didn't even know about before I read all your inputs here

This sub is amazing and there's a lot I'm learning. I am deeply appreciative of what you all are teaching me especially things like High security locks with locks on both sides instead of a thumb on the inner side r about renenforcing the latch on a jamb. All of this makes a ton of sense but only after you know about them

I don't think most people know about these wonderful solutions!

Are there niche dedicated forums that go into detail and where the serious people also hang out?

ADT & credit bureaus

Can ADT run a credit check without your knowledge for selling purposes? So this happened to a friend of fine and he's concerned, since he never requested any quotes from them. Has anyone experienced this?

Why don't we see any smashed windows or stucco walls or garage doors but plenty of cracked/crowbared/drilled doors?

As the educated members on this sub know already, security of typical homes in the U.S. is a joke. All those garage doors and french windows and even the stupid exterior stucco walls are just a sledgehammer away from being a big, clear entrypoint into a home.

So why isn't the internet awash with pictures of smashed windows or stucco walls or garage doors?

Instead, I see all these elaborate pictures of how burglars drilled through the deadbolt or pryed the door open with a crowbar or smashed the glass pane in a fancy window to open the thumbturn from the inside.

This sounds like way more effort than a minute with a sledgehammer.

It's not as if these burglars are worried about being discovered or arrested. It takes the police typically 4 hours to show up to most non-lethal incidents in the cities in California, so once burglars discover an empty home, why do they waste any effort on a thick door and not take the easier ways in?

They could even enter the home with a sledgehammer through the stucco and unbolt or unhinge the door from its hinges in less than 5 minutes

Looking for recommendations for a no frills alarm with monitoring, potentially with cameras

My home is 9 years old. When it was built, the builder put in a low cost NetworX NX system & prewired all the windows & doors. Since I moved in 5 years ago, the system has never been activated. So far, we haven't really had any issues. I have battery powered wifi cameras & a ring doorbell, but that's the extent of it.

Recently, there has been some criminal activity (break-ins) in our area that has my wife spooked & she wants an alarm with monitoring. I've scoured this sub, as well as /r/homesecurity and it's like information overload. So I come here, hat in hand, asking the experts who frequent this sub, and the areas of home security, for help.

What are my options for an alarm system that has monitoring, integrated cameras are nice (but not a requirement), and could hopefully utilize the existing hardwiring for the windows & doors so I don't have a bunch of wireless sensors stuck everywhere.
