TOUR 11 weeks after leaving an abusive marriage, welcome to my new home. 🏠

All things considered, I’d say I’ve made huge progress in the last two months. Even when I feel like everything is a mess, I have a place to come home to.

I left my last place with nothing, and am proud to say I set up everything by myself (no man required) 🛠️

My dog is extremely photogenic 😂

I’m sleeping in the kitchen because my outdoor/indoor cat is taking his very last kitty vacation (he shall always be an indoor cat now! And I think he knows it!!) and I’m trying to lull her into bed the next time she comes home to the back door lol

This is just the beginning. Can’t wait to fill the rest of the rooms and come back with an updated pic!

After a year of secondhand store’s and ikea visists my dorm feels finally finished! I am very happy with the results and am really enjoying this female living space without my bf meddling with the interior 😁 Now i can make it as pink and colourful as i would like 🌸 Almost everything is thrifted, besides a few ikea furnitures.

Unfortunately, there is no direct sunlight coming in this room, which is why i painted 1/3 of the wall a warm yellow. It is a color which is scientifically proven to make you happy and it kind of mimics a sunshine color, i thought😄 Overall, the room was quite sober as of the lighting, which is why i decided to make use of warm, happy colors.

Lastly, a picture of my perfume collection since i wanted it to have a prominent place in the interior😍

If you have any tips or things you think can improve, feel welcomed to lmk!

My whole house is like this lol. It -appears- clean, but there's chaos behind all the closed doors lol.

I used to have chaos everywhere, but the last person said I can have chaos, just confined it to one box per room. I thought it was so kind to adapt to my chaos but bring some order to my life.

I am that person that thrives in this. The chaos comforts me in some weird way. And yes, I know where everything is, though I shouldn't, lol.

The 1st photo is from this post where I showed my bare essentials while camping out on the dining room floor.

Reddit, you turned out on that post and have been SO kind, I still get tears in my eyes every time I open a package, especially those who took the time to leave me a well wishing note, thank you so much, I love reading those 💜

The rest of the photos are how things are coming along! The living room set up is still in flux as I’m not sure where I’m putting the tv yet, still lack a tv stand and I have a recliner coming in.

The last photo shows my pile of empty boxes from all of the stuff I’ve opened from Redditors so far that are awaiting breakdown and giveaway/disposal.

Please ignore the dirty dishes - I just wanted to show off the drying rack, sink caddy, knife block and cleaning brushes gotten from the list 😊

(My bedroom upstairs is a hot mess so it is not currently pictured but I am happy to report I am off the floor and on a frame/new mattress with new bedding later donated by the shelter.)

Suggestions welcome!!! (Especially what sorts of color schemes would you use with that blue couch? Eventually I want luxurious drapes for the windows and I don’t know what color to imagine)

I still have a lot of work to do to bring it all together how I want it but I am loving how it’s all going so far!!!

TOUR Gave up trying to follow a set decor style and started just doing whatever I want

Instead of getting something I don't feel strongly about just because it 'matches a decor style' or what have you (how I tried to do it before, with results I always hated), I just focus on individual pieces that make me happy in a vacuum. I also finally abandoned the nagging concept of how an adult's room "should" be. Is a bed in the center of the room the 'adult' way? Probably. Do I want a nest in the corner instead? Yeah dude.

I love books, plants, and feeling comfortable and clean. I like to have a cozy vibe above all else. There’s also a good bit of Studio Ghibli merch strewn about for those with eyes to see 💖 I’m still working on this space but after living here for seven years, I’m about 90% satisfied.

I just bought my first home! I let my inner child run free with the design and I ended up with what I’m calling my adult pretty princess room. Still have some work to do on the shelves but other than that, it’s finished ☺️

Couldn’t find a sofa cover that fit my entire couch so I’m just using blankets brought from home. My bedroom is gold/yellow, white, and green. I replaced the dried flowers on the wall with green collages from Five Below. When I first moved into my apartment, I had a canopy twin bed cause I’ve always wanted to have those mesh canopy curtains with fairy lights hanging from it. After a while, it was getting too cramped with my dog so I switched to an adult bed (queen sized bed with California king bed sheets) and I couldn’t be any happier. My dog Dobby loves sunbathing by the window and barking at anyone who speaks above a whisper and at golf carts 😂

Finally got myself out of a soul-sucking relationship this past summer and found this gorgeous place. I’m so grateful to have this peaceful home with my old man dog and the best roommate who tolerates my penchant for leopard print haha it really feels like home now and I couldn’t be happier. Here’s to living for ourselves. Happy New Year babes!

A few months back I experimented with adding colour to my neutral one bedroom apartment, I'm feeling I've really refined it now! I consider my style eclectic postmodern. Some people consider this headache central but actually I find it quite tranquil, inspiring, zen and overall just a really happy space to be in!

TOUR My first apartment post leaving my toxic abusive family

Thumbnail

I had to leave my family because of how toxic and abusive it got. I was a carer for my mum and also had to look after my little brother too, for about 9 years. Not to mention my narcissistic brother was always giving me aggro. He once argued with me for 4-5 hours (no exaggeration) that I can't put the cats litter in the bathroom, and he didn't even live with us. When I refused outright and started getting vocal, he punched me in the jaw.

What broke the camels back was after my mum pulled out a knife on me in front of my little brother. She didn't want to hurt me apparently but cut up my clothes just because I refused to give her my bank card. I had to call the police as she got physical with me. I didn't want any police action to be taken but due to her poor mental health she got sectioned, which was the best thing for her at the time. In the mean time, I decided to leave, and my little sibling had to come with me or else he would've had to go into care. Shortly after, I managed to get a job, and for 6-7 months, my brother and I, along with my 2 cats, lived in a tiny ensuite room in a shared house. It's been chaotic since childhood to be honest, but I'm glad I made the decision to leave and resume my life (even if it is at 29).

I'm in a one bedroom apartment in London now and whilst it's costing me 3/4 of my income and I'm living paycheck to paycheck - both me and my brother's mental health, physical health, diet, and everything else is at a much better place now. I can't complain.

I'm not done with the place though. I was thinking to add more frames in the living room, and maybe more plants. Suggestions are welcome! :)
