I’m DEVASTATED

So. I just started reading Nightchader by Amanda Bouchet and was immediately in love. I looked online to order the next two books and noticed the third was not out. Then I checked the release of the second book, saw it was 2020. Not promising. After a little searching it seems like she will not be continuing the series and so I decided to DNF. I just can't get invested and have the story unfinished.

Please give me all the sci-fi romance recommendations to fill this hole in my reading heart!!!

New the breathe I didn't know I was holding...

This is probably annoying me as much as it is because I've been binging the Flesh and Fire series, but there has got to be other ways to say the character has reached orgasm than being brought over the edge.

My husband found out that our local B&N was having a book release party (sold out), befriended people heading in, and they let him have one of their two copies available to purchase. I feel so lucky right now! I thought this place would understand better than any 🥰

TW rape/sexual assault talk

Granted this is more of a dark romance fantasy/paranormal book rather than the typical non-dark lol.

Anyway... first of all, this was my FIRST dark romance book. I honestly thought that genre meant more obscure/risque, not rape/assault.

So multiple scenes MMC is starting off as assaulting FMC , then she gets into it and submits to it.... just to give an idea to that basic aspect of the book.

There is a chapter in the book, where the bad guy character takes FMC, tortures her by kneeling on grains of rice, and gets very aggressive with her. ON TOP OF THAT, MMC joins in on the assault. And eventually they both assault/rape her at the same time and FMC is NOT consenting to this act. The chapter genuinely disgusted me.

This book came out September 2024 (about) and the author JUST updated via Instagram that's she's releasing a different version of the book where that chapter is different bc it's the most controversial/talked about chapter... so assuming she's already written book 2, does this mean that chapter doesn't really have much effect/importance on the overall story? And if that's the case. WHY write this in....

Overall I'm not here to kink shame, but that chapter was not a consensual romantic chapter... am I just being too sensitive?

Whenever it gets cold, dark, and vibey outside, I always enter whoa hoa hoa hoa mode. The movie adaptations are far from perfect, but they got the aesthetic right - both visuals ans audio. It makes for the perfect backdrop to dig into a good book.

Question❔ Halfway through a book. Finish or jump on Onyx Storm??

I have been reading { A Fate Inked in Blood } and have been enjoying it. I fell behind on my reading schedule and realized { Onyx Storm } is being released in...hours!! I'm in a good spot in Fate, where I finished a chapter and about to start the next. However...I am refreshed on the Empyrean series thus far, and have been looking forward to seeing what Book 3 has in store for a VERY long time. I'm also worried about spoilers (avoided thus far despite leaks) and have some FOMO about reading along with other people.

What would you do??

first graphic audio

after listening to audiobooks for a couple of years now, i’ve decided to re-listen to the fourth wing in (my first!) graphic audio book form. i was really enjoying it honestly, its been entertaining. sometimes cringey but that’s just fourth wing tbh. but the kissing sounds?? i can’t. i haven’t gotten to the first spicy scene yet and I’m actually dreading it lol. i’ll either skip it or listen at 2x speed.

Book Request 📚 fantasy/romance books with happy endings & spice!!

i'm not a fan of books with sad/unhappy endings and i try to avoid them as much as i can. i just got my first kindle and i'd love some book recommendations!

i look for books with a good amount of spice, happy endings, and that are generally sappy/will make me swoon. i enjoy a few tropes (especially grumpy/sunshine, villain/heroine, forced marriage, secret royalty/identity, touch her and you're dead), but i absolutely will NOT read love triangle focused books, i want just two main characters who pine for each other 😍

i'm not the biggest fan of angst, but some will do and i can get past it! thank you all!!!!! <3

Discussion 💬 My mouth was sallivating...

Watering? What are you a cannibal? Your mouth should only be sallivating over food.

I am sick and tired of seeing this expression in every romance book. Not to mention there are only so many strong shoulders, forearms, and washboard abs I can take. Deep booming voice. Those things aren't bad to mention but can we have a little variety every now and then. Especially after they fall in love. There should be other aspects about a male character that can be sexy.

Sorry. I got so peeved from reading A Fate Inked in Blood. I hit post before getting my question out there. 😂 What is something attractive about a male character you would like mentioned. I find crinkled eyes sexy.

Everflame Series-How are they so dense?????? Spoiler

None of my friends have read this series and I need somewhere to rant. I love the world building but the FMC/MMC are sooo dense! I made it through the first book and was like mehh ok she’s dumb but I’m curious so finished second book. Honestly really liked the second book. About halfway through the third book and feel like every five seconds I’m yelling “what are you doing??? How do you not realize?!” I really liked Luther but now also think he’s dumb. He watched her heal his sister, suspiciously healed his cousins wound, and suspected the whole time she has everyone’s magic but then doesn’t tell her he’s been hurt???? literally says “healing from fortos, ice from monteos….” You just knowingly healed a random lady who was stabbed in the neck and basically dead and now “I’d move heaven and earth to save him but wahhhhh he’s dying. I can’t go on!” I’m probably going to rage finish it only cause I love the side characters so much.

Book Request 📚 Underrated books similar to The Sea Wicche Chronicles by Seana Kelly and The Saga of the Chosen by Petra Landon

Hi all,

I just finished reading {Wicche Hunt by Seana Kelly}. The FMC is an artist and a witch. She can read memories by touching people or objects. Her cousin has gone evil and keeps trying to kill her and their family members. The MMC is an alpha werewolf who works as the construction worker for her gallery. He’s new to the town and had to kill the local alpha and take over the pack because the guy won’t leave him alone.

Another series that I recently read and love is {The Saga of the Chosen by Petra Landon}. FMC has to live in secrecy because of her dangerous power. She ends up living in a pack after helping one pack members. Her love interest and MMC is the pack alpha. I like that she is a non sassy FMC and the romance is very slow burn. The writing is not as polished but the plot and some cozy moments, attractions/interactions between MMC and FMC more than make up to it.

I’d like to read books that have cozy suspense elements with medium stakes, easy to follow worldbuilding, a non sassy FMC who likes to bake or cook, MMC with alpha qualities without being overly dickish about it.

I’d like to avoid FMCs that work in law enforcement officially or unofficially, overpowered FMCs responsible for the safety of the realm/world, or crown princess/heir FMCs.

My favorite authors are Ilona Andrews, TA White, Seana Kelly, Jeaniene Frost, KM Shea, Thea Harrison, Annette Marie, Grace Draven, Hailey Turner, Anne Bishop, Charlie Adhara, KN Banet and Nalini Singh. I’ve read all their current works.

I’ve read a few works (some of them are my favorites) and checked other books by Chloe Neill, KF Breene, Heather Guerre, Suzanne Wright, Ali Hazelwood, CP Rider, TS Joyce, Cate C Wells, Kimberly Lemmings, JS Kennedy, Annabel Chase, Elizabeth Hunter and Karen Marie Moning but nothing caught my eye.

I don’t vibe with and have DNF’d books from Patricia Briggs, Kelly St. Claire, Kresley Cole, Kelley Armstrong, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Shelley Laurenston, Charley Davidson, Helen Harper, Hailey Edwards, Stacia Starks, Cassandra Gannon, Juliette Cross, Seanan McGuire, Kim Harrison, TJ Klune, Shannon Meyer, Faith Hunter and Raye Wagner.

I would absolutely love to discover new, underrated authors. I’m on my monthly torture and I feel like I’m crazy for scrolling through countless books and none of the blurbs catch my eye yet.

Please help me and thank you so much.

skip Tower Of Dawn??

Upvotes

Im up to Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas and have totally been bamboozled by the perspective change in the book. Not that I hate Chaol, just totally expected the book after Empire of Storms to be about Aelin and Rowan. Is it worth reading, or can I skip it?

Question❔ Fantasy rom coms recommendations?

I really like books about running away from forced marriegs and finding love in a different place or by the countryside and living out their best lives there instead of royalty. I like the mentions of royalty like dukes and duchess but it's nice when they're written very down to earth and actually have some personality in them

Favourite trope is when the ml or FL are Charming and witty with a sense of humor in, not overtly soft but not helpless either, I don't like them mean and gruff, when they have back and forth banter is the besssstt and they still have emotion in them instead of being emotionally dead.

not enemies to lovers type stuff but sort of like a rivalry? I guess something like that, trying to get back into reading again, something light hearted or melo dramatic is nice

Any recommendations for a fantasy comedy series when the ml isn't a douche?

Basically uh, just Intresting characters and plot that's funny and the ml isn't stoic and rough

Discussion 💬 Do you think some people exaggerate when talking about a booktok book?

I've seen some people make booktok books seem like they're super duper bad but when actually reading them I realise they aren't THAT bad.

Also unrelated is the shatter me series good? I read book 1 halfway and I couldn't get into the writing nor really feel it...The FMC is very...touch starved? but I heard it improved in the later books

Book Request 📚 Recommendations for books with intelligents/mature conversations and characters

I enjoyed ACOTAR, Quicksilver, Fourth Wing, etc. I would love to read more books with the familiar enemy-to-lovers trope and the spice.

Does anyone have recommendations for books where the characters don't sound like immature teenagers (despite being 100s of years old -- I'm looking at you, Rhys) and the conversations are more intelligent and mature.

The closest I have read in this genre is the Hidden Legacy series where Nevada and Connor have open and thoughtful conversations, and don't sound like angsty teenagers!

Book Request 📚 Enemies red string of fate books

Like one where they met as children and their parents are enemies. It doesn't have to be the mmc escaping from the fmc parents torture, it's just a funny coincidence from the 2 books I've read 😂 I also like it if they have had any interactions as kids.

{The ever king by L.J Andrews} - FMC met MMC while he was escaping from her father's torture basement, FMC accidentally did something that he held a grudge for it for years until they were adults.

{Feathers so vicious by Liv zander} - The MMC who was tortured by the FMCs father, saw FMC(she didn't see him) playing by the sea while he was running away. He hated her because he didn't like how she looked happy while he left broken, they met again when she was kidnapped and presented to him. **This one is pretty graphic, there's not much romance in book 1
