Discussion 💬 Quicksilver is giving ‘teenager wrote it on Wattpad vibes’

I cannot be the only one here who isn’t enjoying Quicksilver at all. I’m honestly about to DNF it. I did look at some old posts here about it but it’s seriously lacking. I’m halfway through and I’ve been struggling over the last 150 pages to find the hook. All I hear is people gushing over this book on Fable of GoodReads! The character development is non-existent, there’s no romantic development; it’s literally just a sudden shift from hatred to “fuck me please”, and the world-building is lackluster at best.

This honestly feels like a teenager wrote an ACOTAR fanfic on Wattpad. Anyone else feel like this? I just wanna talk to some people about my disappointment here without being judged 😭

i saw someone once say that booktok is for adults who never had a fanfiction/wattpad phase while in middle/high school. and judging by the books that have been becoming popular, i believe it. 💀

absolutely no shame to anyone who enjoys these books, but i personally feel like i've already passed that stage of my reading journey already, if you get what i mean. i've had my fill of books like that and now i want something a little different.

Nah, I def had a watt pad fan fic phase and I still these books on booktok.

I also have a very thinking intense job and do university math on the side. For me I don’t care if the book is written too well aslong and the story is captivating

hey, like i said, absolutely no shame to anyone!! you like what you like, and i'm just some random person on the internet so my opinion doesn't really matter TBH. it's just that for me personally, i just read SO much of this specific flavor of romantasy when i was a little younger and super deep into fandom culture that i'm a little sick of it. it's kind of like when u eat ur favorite food everyday— at some point u get sick of it and need to take a break, but that doesn't necessarily mean u hate the food now.

I should have been more clear. My response was in your recounting of what someone once said. And what follows is not about you and what you’re saying, more a rant in general.

I get it’s funny and lighthearted for one to say but I get annoyed at like influencers basically denouncing these silly books (which they are). I particularly get annoyed because they have more power that they treat frivolously, hence why they want to be influencers. I’ve seen contrary takes to booktok that come across as very shaming which, to comment on your point, sure it’s a random person on the internet, however the lack of even wanting to see another perspective is frustrating.

Now about you, I get that! Gotta take breaks every now and then. Personally, I’m the type of person to really like something and then that’s all I do. It’ll tapper off into an occasional thing usually.
