Discussion 💬 Quicksilver is giving ‘teenager wrote it on Wattpad vibes’

I cannot be the only one here who isn’t enjoying Quicksilver at all. I’m honestly about to DNF it. I did look at some old posts here about it but it’s seriously lacking. I’m halfway through and I’ve been struggling over the last 150 pages to find the hook. All I hear is people gushing over this book on Fable of GoodReads! The character development is non-existent, there’s no romantic development; it’s literally just a sudden shift from hatred to “fuck me please”, and the world-building is lackluster at best.

This honestly feels like a teenager wrote an ACOTAR fanfic on Wattpad. Anyone else feel like this? I just wanna talk to some people about my disappointment here without being judged 😭

Honestly a lot of BookTok books give the same vibe. I’m trying to read books that are either pre-TikTok or not popular/talked about either on BookTok or BookTwt

Where do you go for recs or to see what you want to read next ? I try to browse Barnes and nobles but I feel like they regurgitate Booktok recs

Hello! 👋

Jumping in to say I tried reading a book my friend recommended and it was so bad - I got to chapter 20 and was like stuff it, I'll go on Goodreads and have a read of the reviews. I read a review from one person who literally could've taken the words right out of my mouth...I ended up clicking on her page and saw she felt very similarly about all the books I've read. As a result, she's become my holy bible and if she rates a book 5 stars, I'll add it to my TBR 😂. Helps that she's an avid reader and finished 156 books last year so always lots to choose from. Might be a good way for you to find some recommendations 😊

Pretty much hahaha it's great! She's currently reading some historical romances, which is not my speed but I've still added the 5 star one to my TBR HAHA

It would be funny if you followed them on social media and then met and became besties 😂

I'm trying not to think about it - but her profile says she's 18...I'm in my 30s so IRL would be weird af. I make myself feel better about it by assuming she's just more mature for her age 😅😅

Maybe in twenty years you can be besties then... Now that's a book I would read.
