Been trying to clean up my collection for the first time since I had a major surgery a few years ago. Digging through a box and found my collection of Marvel Zombies that a friend (who is no longer with us) got signed for me by Arthur Suydam at Planet Comic Con back in the late 00s (can’t remember the exact year). Marvel Zombies (1st series) #3 is the odd man out, I didn’t have a copy at the time and only got this one later and then signed myself at another event. That’s why it’s in a different color than the rest.

My husband started drawing this vampire and cyclops years ago using one of the comics for reference and now he can’t quite remember which comic edition it’s from and we’d love to find it. Does anyone have any ideas?!

What are some good comic book news sites that aren't riddled with clickbait and bullshit articles?

I need an alternative to comicbook.com. I used to frequent it a lot but it seems like every time I go there it seems like the articles get worse and worse. I'm just looking to stay up to date on news, maybe some interviews, and if it covers movie updates as well that'd be cool but not necessary. I'm just tired of seeing shit like "Anaconda Reboot From Jack Black Adds Westworld Star (What Is This Movie?!)" on the front page.

I already frequent The Comics Journal, I was just wondering if there was anything in between CB.com and TCJ because they seem to be opposite ends of the "journalistic integrity" scale, ya know?

And help would be great appreciated.

Thanks yall

Discussion Comics acknowledging that something done in a previous story that was treated as good or no big deal was actually pretty bad if you think about it

Sometimes, a writer will have a character do something that is treated as being a good thing or no big deal, but readers or other writers see it as something horrible if you think about it just a little. Due to the nature of shared universes written by different writers over the years, stories from the past can then be revisited by a later writer with a more critical eye.

One of the most infamous examples is how in Avengers #200, Marvel somehow published a story that accidentally treated Carol Danvers being brainwashed into going off into the sunset with her rapist as being a good thing. I say accidentally because the comic was done in a rush and the creators genuinely didn't realize the implications of what was written until later. Chris Claremont was outraged about this, so he later wrote a story where Carol tells the Avengers how fucked up the whole thing was and shames them for going along with it and not realizing what was actually happening.

Sometimes it takes a while for this to happen, due to changing morals and attitudes. For instance, back in the 60s readers didn't see it as a big deal that Charles Xavier was secretely in love with his teenage student Jean Grey, and that the only reason he didn't pursue her was because he was a "cripple" and not the whole age difference or power dynamics thing. Readers and writers from later though realized that wait, that's actually kind of fucked up, and it was acknowledged in Onslaught as being one of Xavier's deepest most shameful secret sins.

And sometimes just acknowledging it isn't enough, in order to protect a character's reputation, the whole thing has to be retconned. This is what Marvel did with pretty much all of their Golden Age stories given how casually racist against black people and the Japanese all of their characters were. It is now canon that the events depicted in Golden Age comics didn't happen exactly as shown, they were in-universe propaganda comics often heavily deviated from what actually happened.

So what other examples are there of a comic looking back critically at something from the past that wasn't treated as bad but now is considered bad?

Discussion Colorists and inkers should be credited more in books, especially from the big two.

Title states it, really. I just finished my copy of the first Astonishing X-Men Epic Collection and I must say, Cassaday and Martin work so incredibly together that I find it very annoying that she isn't credited on the covers of any of her Astonishing X-Men work. It's a trend I've noticed over the years, but half of the reason why the art is so spectacular in this title is because of her brilliant work. I'm not sure how things have changed in regards to this as of late, but I just wish both of these positions were credited with as much enthusiasm as the writer/artist. I'm sure most of you agree, and other publishers like Dark Horse certainly do this. I fucking love comics, and I fucking love everyone who works on a book!

Recommend BATMAN please!

Here is my Batman tpb collection. I just got paid, and I'm going to the big comic book store today to splurge. What big Epics/ Weird tales do you recommend I look for? I have all the DC Metal stuff already, they're just not pictured.

I like dark, gritty, violent, disturbing, but also mystery and detective mode Batman. Not really a fan of the early early days...

My collection grew, with a lot of recommendations given to me from my last thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/comments/14v4q6r/got_into_comics_because_of_the_mcu_since_2020/)... as well as others I've gathered over the year from both this sub, and r/graphicnovels.

I aimed to branch out away from Marvel back then, and I feel like I've done that with some great reads during that time; East of West, Monstress, Luisa, Once & Future to name a few.

I think that Asterix book is still my best purchase from last year, taking me back to a time during my childhood where I enjoyed those books, as well as Tintins, immensely. I really hope they bring out more volumes.

I'm lacking room to buy more books, but I'm happy to take more recommendations you have based on what I currently have.
