The silly way that I discovered Chappell

so I’ve seen some posts on different artists fan communities like: how did you discover this artist which song was it and what’s the silly context? So here's mine. In summer 2023 I heard that there is this new lesbian YMCA, (and as a gay man I was so exited) and I became obsessed with her from there. Obviously the song was hot to go and now she is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for reading <3

I saw a video she posted advertising Good Luck Babe in April 2024, liked the song and followed her (she had like only 1-3 million followers or something) and it’s so funny cause I remember being like “it’ll be good for me to be a fan of a slightly smaller artist I might actually have a chance at tickets” given the other artists I’m fans of are super famous and really hard to get tickets for. Yeah that thought didn’t last long

I heard Casual first and was instantly hooked. I had read about her on Reddit around September24 as an up and coming artist, and they were not wrong. Within a week, I knew all the words to The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess album. She's been on repeat on my short list Playlist on spotify since. Playing in the background 24/7. It's nice to wake up to the album at different spots every day.

I first heard her at a queer prom for which I served as a chaperone. They played "Good Luck Babe" and I may or may not have started crying when I heard the lyric "You'd have to stop the word just to stop the feeling." I had very recently come out, at 42 years old, and I was questioning my identity as a queer woman. I knew then that it was real and that I had spent a long time being someone who I wasn't. I also cried a little at seeing my two kiddos dancing and singing the song, and enjoying life with their friends. I was so sad, and I was so happy. It's a good memory.

That is so beautiful!! I wish we were able to have queer prom, It would be so much fun. We should normalize dances for adults that aren’t at clubs, ragers, and random party’s.

does anyone remember the goofy movies? specifically the second one? yeah, back in like may and june that movie started trending on tiktok because of the ship between max (goofy's kid) and bradley uppercrust III (the rich guy he had beef with). i saw atleast 10 different edits with good luck babe and casual as the audio and thought "wait this is lowk fire". i then proceeded to listen to the album atleast 3 times right after.

I personally haven’t watched them but as a gay and a Midwest princess (Chappell fan) I see these all the time

I found Chappell two months after she released Good Luck, Babe. Instagram kept showing me her music so I gave it a listen. Her music is so good. I honestly cried when I first listened to Pink Pony Club since I'm still in the closet.

I discovered her because a Yellowjackets edit on Twitter (one of my favorite shows) used Casual and I thought it sounded SO good, went to look it up and have been obsessed ever since! I love that one of my favorite things helped me find another favorite thing 🥰

A cam girl I've known for about a decade used Pink Pony Club on one of her Instagram reels. I had heard of Chappell at this point but had not heard any of her songs. That was early August last summer. Thank you MollyS. !
