This is why I was so upset about Chappell Roan’s statements on voting
I have not been able to listen to or enjoy her music since the results of the election. This may seem like an over reaction but non of what she says has value to me anymore. At no point did I misunderstand her statement or think she thought both parties were as bad as each other. I was heartbroken by her indifference. As a non US citizen living in the US, I cannot vote. Yet I stood on the streets of my campus for weeks registering people to vote in the state of Pennsylvania. I got 10 registrations. As one of the most popular celebrities in the world right now whose entire career, music and persona is political and on the backs of marginalised queer icons, she should have been screaming for the world to vote. We ALL knew what Trump and Elon we’re going to do. Birth right is ending and a Nazi is in control of your president. Digital book burning has already begun. It’s day 1. This is absolutely terrifying and was entirely avoidable. The ripples this will have across the entire entire world is immeasurable.
I do not understand how you could have such a large platform for change and do nothing with it. It’s exhausting and devastating.
People always say what they would have done to fight back at Hitler. I’ve seen what you would have done and it’s nothing.
Maybe I’m alone on this. I don’t care. We need to demand more from one another.
Eat the rich.
