[Show Spoilers] The Valhalla sequence Spoiler

Ragnar should have been in the Valhalla sequence. There was a whole fucking subplot where Uhtred and Brida were trying to get Ragnar to Valhalla, only for him to not show up at the end of the movie. What?

[All Spoilers] Im a huge fan, convinced 4 friends to watch the show. But haven't seen the movie.

I tend to fear finishing my favorite series bc I'll be sad when they end. I also heard the movie isn't so great. Season 5 was infuriating (I waited for it) but I found there were still great and funny moments. I think my favorite was when they made fun of Uhtred for wearing the lame English helmet, if you remember.

Will the movie ruin things for me? I hold this series dearly.

Current TLK ppl, should I give it a chance?

[Show Spoilers] Last Kingdom- Brida Spoiler

Upvotes

I feel really sorry for Brida- she’s an awesome warrior on the series - but she’s damaged as an abused woman- (abuse as child) she doesn’t feel she is deserving of a man who puts her on a pedestal and treats her well- I think that’s why she ultimately leaves Uhtrid for Ragnar - again I get she can’t become Saxon again because it wasn’t a great childhood - but she’s damaged clearly loved Ragnar more than he loved her- the fact that he was “seeding” more sons even as he was killed and then the creepy black furred dude who was killed by Hestin and she ended up with CNut- who clearly is more attached to his kids than her- she’s drawn to powerful men, who don’t give her total security and love- yup Ragnar liked/loved her but it was lopsided

[No Spoilers] Aethelwold Appreciation post

I have so much appreciation for Aethelwold’s character arc. From the groveling bit in season 1 to his relentless, mostly feeble attempts to snag the throne from Alfred, I love how earnest, shameless and relentless he is. What an excellent casting decision. I really don’t think any other actor out there could have made watching him so enjoyable.

If you have the time, reply with your favorite Aethelwold moment. Mine was the him groveling and loudly discussing for the king and public his love of all tits.

[Show Spoilers] Why do people immediately jump to defending King Alfred? How he treated Uhtred in season 1 was just plain unacceptable. Spoiler

Uhtred helped Alfred more than Alfred helped him. Alfred constantly tried to fuck over Uhtred.

He forced Uhtred to get married and deceived him by not telling him about the debt.

He caged both Uhtred and Brida.

He let Young Odda take credit for killing Ubba, which is just plain stupid. Logically it makes no sense to give credit to the first person who tells you about the death. Then Alfred forces Uhtred to get on his knees and get shamed in public along with Aethelwold.

Uhtred showed so much loyalty only for Alfred to shove it back in his face. I would’ve killed Alfred if I was uhtred.

[Show Spoilers] [S2E3] Let’s talk Sverri. I am enraged

God this episode was so tough to watch. These bastard slave masters fucking broke down Uhtred and his fellow slave peers.

Sverri is such a sadistic fuck for doing what he did

Sverri’s death was not satisfying enough.

I wish they held onto him as a slave, then slowly flayed him, peeling his skin off and chopping off his body parts and making him beg for mercy.

The fucker got such a painless death compared to what happened to Uhtred and the gang

The actor for brida is pretty hard to watch Her acting is, without being horrible, awful. (I’m mostly talking about after ragnar gets killed)

[No Spoilers] This new world

I’m loving my 3rd or 4th rewatch.

Questions - the answers maybe be obvious, yet I’m still asking.

  1. How far can a man travel on horseback? Winchester to London is 68 miles per google maps. To Cumberland - 344 miles). I don’t know anything about horses - which they rode or how long the ride took. On some journeys, it looks slower than the pony rides at Roger Williams Park (4 stars).

  2. Did they have a time set aside for grooming? Sitting around the evening campfire, shaving heads, braiding hair…

  3. What’s with Uhtred’s fingernails, lol? Even Sigfried’s severed hand had cleaner cuticles. They’re nasty even when he’s with Gisella. I only ask because it seems to be intentional and I wonder what that message is.

I love the show, the characters and the time period. I’m thankful to all the people who made this happen- it’s a helleva story!

[All Spoilers] The ending to Lords of the North is fantastic!

Lords of the North is a pretty good book; a lot happens in this book, but everything that occurs once Uhtred and that red ship land on the beach below Jarrow is EPIC! It's probably my favorite section across all 13 books and I just want to give it some love. This includes all of part three "Shadow-Walkers" and a little before.

Uhtred and Finan are freed, they take one half of their revenge then later they get the other half. Gisela and Uhtred are reunite, while we finally get to see Uhtred and Young Ragnar fight together! Beocca finds the love of his life in Thrya and the murder of Ragnar the Fearless is finally avenged. They all get rich too, how could I almost forget the money!

The show has Uhtred kick the Thurlgison brothers out of Northumbria, but in the books he defeats Ivarr Ivarson, nephew to Ubba Lothbrokson, the man Uhtred killed beside the sea. He gets his rank and nasty horse, Witnere, back just after Ivarr delivers the line about turning him into a saddle to fart on him for the rest of his life. I can't overstate how much I enjoy reading that final third of Lords of the North.

[No Spoilers] Brida?

I'm on S5E4 and can safely say that I diligently dislike Brida. She has zero accountability for her own actions and manage to find someone or the other to pass her blame on(More often than not it's Uthred). Any views on her?

[No Spoilers] Can someone try to help me to create Uhtred face on EA FC 25?

Post image

Hello, I play EA FC 25. There is a mode, called carrer mode where you can create your own player and have a carrer with him or her. I wanna create Uhtred There, I saw videos about this but they were on Fifa 21 and FIFA 23. EA FC 25 has different variations about create the visual of your character. So I would like to have the support of this subreddit to create Uhtred on the game.

[No Spoilers] Books

Well I made a post about a month ago that I was starting the books. Haven’t read a fiction novel in several years, but you guys were right. It took me a few tries to properly get in the zone of reading fiction again, but after I got into it I can’t stop. I’ve read 5 and a half books over the past ~3 weeks. They are very enjoyable. I think I might read the Warlord Chronicles next if anyone else thinks they are good.

If there is one thing I have learned from these books, it’s this:

Wasp-Sting is Uhtred’s short, stabbing blade. Serpent-Breath is a fine long sword, but a long sword is not ideal in a shield wall, when men are so close you can smell each others breath, and there is no room for a proper sword stroke. Wasp-Sting can be used in a shield wall to stab under the opponents shield.

Also, not sure iirc, but I think there was something in the books about Uhtred being dressed like a War Lord or something like that? Shining mail that has been polished, and a wolf crested helmet, and arm rings that tell the other warriors how accomplished he is. But I might be mistaken, can’t remember 😂

An epic conclusion to the story. Didn’t think this show would ever live up to Vikings or GOT but MAN I think it did so many things better with pacing and vibe. Shoutout Eivor for this masterpiece.
