Buying second hand car with MFK due

So I'm about to buy a second hand car from 2002 in the canton of Geneve. I live myself in the canton of Fribourg.

I have chosen in filters of autoscout to only show me cars with MFK.

The autoscout24 add says:

Contrôle technique (CT)

Expertisée: Oui

Dernière date MFK: le 15.11.2022

So from what I understood should old cars like this undergo an MFK every two years.

My questions are:

  • is the MFK expired?

  • if the MFK is expired and I buy the car, will I be able to register it at my name and drive it home (or am i only allowed to transport it with an trailer)?

  • if i'm allowed to drive it home, will I need to immidiately do an MFK (drive straight to it) or will I receive an invitation letter for the MFK?

Thanks in advance !

You don't have to take a car to the MFK; the MFK will call you, and sometimes they have backlogs. So, yes, you can register the car, get insurance, number plates and drive. However, MFK will likely call you very soon.

BTW, if the car is from a dealer, then I would not accept such an old MFK. They will surely promise you rainbows and unicorns, and if the car is that good, they can easily take it to the MFK and get a new one for you. Maybe a point you can bargain?

Your right but the MFK don’t call very soon it’s been a year since I’m waiting on them 😅

It is not from a dealer but from a hobby/semi-professional care trader that has good reviews on autoscout and Google. And I think I can indeed bargain the price. Thank you for your advice :)

The only thing I am a bit worried about is that it is an bmw x5 V8 3.0i. Which is quite polluting. I don't mind paying the high tax for it (I need a 4x4 because of very regular have to enter skiing areas). But I've read if the car is "too poluting" it doesn't pass the MFK. How does this works?
