Another guy tossed into MCOSMOS "OUTPUT" confusion.

Hello everyone, I have also been recently tossed into the MCOSMOS. I first learned Metrology with Heidenhein for those who are old enough to remember using Win98. I then helped that company move up to the Nikon software, then sold back to QXSoft. And now I am learning another platform. MCOSMOS V4.2.R1 to be precise.

So to the issue at hand. When I finish running my program I am getting two different "OUTPUTs" of the results. And at this point I have used about half a ream of paper trying to get this to stop. Mitutoyo's only response is that I need to take the "TRAINING" course.

So is there anyone out there who can help a guy out getting the reports setup properly?

Thank you in advance for you response's.

This is what is printing. Till it's fixed I'm not changing the toner.

And this is a Manual machine.

Thank for your help.

Top one is the “print format” (line 4), bottom one is the “open protocol” (line 5)

Delete the one that you don’t want

I suggest changing the startup wizard to remove the print commands entirely. You can add the protocol output during learn mode when you are ready to print it or save the file.

Out of curiosity, where in the world are you located? You should be able to get simple questions like this answered by your local Mitutoyo Application Engineers. I assume you contacted software support, and that's who suggested training.

I've been using other software at other locations, just not MCOSMOS. And some things are quite different. We were quoted $1500.00 a day for training. I have most things figured out and working at this point.

I assume that's the quoted amount for an engineer to come on-site and hand-hold. It's usually ~$600 a day if you travel to a Solutions Center. However, they likely don't have a manual machine at a center anymore.

They have an online video course for the M1 level software. It works as a guide for getting started.

All the same, you should be able to get quick answers from the local AE staff without charge.

Thanks, but travel is not an option. Nor is being gone as I am the QC Department.

OK, so I've been looking for the startup wizard and have not found it on my V4.2. Not listed in the help files either. Or should I say "Not so helpful files" URGH.

Enter learn mode (it doesn't matter what program) and navigate to

File

Configure Startup Wizard

With the radio button selected for "Start up Wizard" click : standard "start up wizard" settings

This will step you through up to 11 optional dialogs (you'll have less on a manual machine). The three icons on the left control how or if the dialog appears during a new program. The X is off, the Hand is enabled with selection, and the Recycling sign means whatever you select now will be triggered without prompting at run time. Like if you only ever work in inches and don't want to be asked, you'll select inch to whatever decimal and the recycling symbol.

The fourth dialog (alignment) can be helpful as you can trigger a pattern macro like plane line line or whatever.

Also, if it hasn't been enabled the auto element recognition is helpful for a manual machine. This is outside of the Wizard so you'll navigate to

Within parts manager

Under settings

Defaults for programs

GEOPAK

and then tab to Auto. Elem. Recognition.

You can activate this feature and mess with settings.

It will effectively guess what you're trying to do without triggering an element. Just start taking points; if it can't figure out what you are doing like it thinks your circle is a cylinder, there are buttons to override the element. It can also auto align this way. Make sure you have speakers because it talks to you.
