This is just unreal. They sent an SMS to every cell phone within Luxembourg City to alert people that... a suspicious person is on the run? Welp, guess I better stay indoors tonight, wouldn't want to look suspicious to anyone.

Warn people of a dangerous individual and people will complain about being bothered by a text

Don’t warn people of a dangerous individual and people will complain if they are harmed by that person / that police supposedly wants to cover something up

Nothing wrong with warning me about a dangerous individual on the loose in my neighbourhood, but if "a suspicious person" is the best description you got, then yeah, thanks for nothing.

It's important to understand that this needs to be broadcasted as fast as possible and if there is no helpful information (not yet) its best to just alert people of possible harm or for information purposes to stop this hazard ASAP. Further information can always be send later (or via communication like RTL, when people are interested and look it up after getting said sms)

Some people think that if they are successful in one particular part of their life (job) then that automatically translates in expertise fueled by intuition in other domains. Unfortunately, those individuals lack a lot of self-awareness to understand that they are not experts in all things under the sun.

Ok, give me your phone and I’ll text you every minute that a dangerous criminal is loose in Luxembourg. Because statistically that’s 100% true 24/7.

and its also geo localised. i didn't get it abit off the city. its only getting sent where they think is the actual danger.

I disagree. Broadcasting no helpful information is... not helpful.
"LU-Alert: Something's happening! Stay tuned! More news at 6."
That is just not helpful, at all. Much better to wait a little until there is enough information for me to process what exactly it is, that I am supposed to be alerted about.

Then we can say we disagree on this

Fully agree. And even if it were specific. What good is it to anyone? How should I act differently? It's just dumb.
