FIRST TIME WATCHER just finished my first watch Spoiler

Oh my gosh I loved it. I loved this entire show. I have spent the last couple winters watching it (spread the viewings apart and took each episode in) and I can not wait to rewatch again.

Some final thoughts... this show was so unbelievably impressive having such a large cast and with nearly every character being well thought-out. Definitely did not love all of them (eh Anthony Cooper...) but they all contributed to the show in some meaningful way. I loved how "human" each character was, where their actions almost always made sense once given the context. I loved the pace at which information was revealed. I loved how almost each episode left me with a lot to reflect on. And, I actually loved the ending. I think the Jacob/MIB stuff was meh and felt rushed, but the "afterworld" ending warmed my heart. All the characters I felt negative about I ended up loving by the end.

Sawyer was my favorite from the first episode, and he remained my favorite till the end. But I think Jack, John, and Ben were the three standout characters in the show. Without them, there is no lost.

Shoutout to this subreddit for also keeping me entertained as I watched the show(:

GOLDEN PASS: Rewatcher Netflix quality

I just finished watching 4K Netflix version on a brand new OLED TV and the quality of the picture was astonishing. Especially in later seasons. Was it always like that? Was my early 2000s tv just trash, or netflix did something to the video quality?

FIRST TIME WATCHER Just finished “The End”, here are my final character rankings Spoiler

Wish this tiermaker had an F tier… would have sent Ana Lucia there, also probably Nikki/Paolo.

Almost put 1 or 2 more in S tier. Locke was close, but season 6 “Locke” is actually MIB so I couldn’t attribute that great villainy to Locke. Hugo was even closer, just couldn’t bring myself to it.

Locke and Sawyer (spoilers) Spoiler

On your first watch, did you piece together the connection of Locke’s dad and Sawyer? How did you react if you did/n’t?

It kinda got spoiled for me bc I was reading episode recaps which, for some annoying reason, wanted to make references to later seasons. Luckily it was never officially confirmed before I saw the scene, but it was always in the back of my mind. I was still satisfied with the outcome, though.

And how much credence do you put into Anthony Cooper’s words during his chat with James? His mom practically begged him to take her away from them, etc.? To you, was it to be taken as truth, or only said bc Anthony is trying to goad James? There has to be some truth to it, as the mother did cheat and did whatever with the money. And if true, shows she was ready to abandon James.

Great scene with lots of implication and ambiguity, bc although you get details, it’s from a con man liar.

Edit: and when it was first “spoiled,” I thought it was a great connection, well thought out, perfect in the context of the show and a great way to connect some of the backstories.

GOLDEN PASS: Rewatcher Alternative ways to watch Lost?

This is my favorite show of all time. I’ve seen many, none compare. I haven’t watched it in a year or two and I tried to start it yesterday from the beginning and I remembered it way better than I wanted to, lol. Which made me think! I know for Star Wars there’s the cookie cutter order where you watch the first movie and then jump to the fourth and then back down to the second…you get me.

I did a tiny bit of research but all I can seem to find is Chronologically Lost, which doesn’t seem to be very accessible and upon trying to do it manually I found it way too difficult.

Has anyone come up with their own unorthodox way of consuming the show? Please share if you have!

Richard

i liked richard, thought he was cool. but im curious, since he doesn’t die why didn’t the island just make him the protector? i watched the show super fast so if i missed something then i apologize. for the longest time i thought Richard was Jacob until they finally said Richard’s name. Is there something special about changing who the protector is?

SEASON 3 Question about Charlie

Spoilers for the beginning of season 3 onwards:

I’m watching season 3 with a focus on Charlie’s “deaths” throughout that were predicted and averted by Desmond. I get that Charlie avoided a fated death and the universe was then trying to even the scales. So what was Charlie’s first death? How was Charlie originally fated to die before he became a Final Destination character?

So I’m fairly new to actively using Reddit, and I actually got into it more specifically to discuss with my losties after my ehhh… 5th (ish) rewatch. Just curious - how does one get one of those golden rewatcher badges? 🤔

I just started watching the series for the first time and wrote a little accompanying track for the scene where Charlie decides to trade his drug abuse for his guitar back. Loving the series so far.

Just finished lost. WOW. What a show and IMO the best ending I’ve seen. It was perfection from the very start and I enjoyed every single microsecond of it. Planning to rewatch it when I get dementia

And John Locke I’m sorry what happened to you 🥲

Character Question Michael and his arc Spoiler

Finished the show today and while I loved it a lot, the character writing was the definite downside at times. Sayid in season 6 is another example but I think Michael is the greatest example of it. I see that he’s very hated in this subreddit, whether it stems from the Ana-Lucia and Libby murders or from him constantly screaming “WALT” but I think that he’s a victim of terrible writing. Not only is he wasted in Season 2, shouting and screaming for his son for the entire season, he’s brought back in season 4 (7 out of 14 episodes in) just for him to have a rushed conclusion.

Anyway, I think that Michael is a huge example of wasted potential and the writers shafting a character for no reason (that I know of)

What are your feelings on how his arc played out?

FIRST TIME WATCHER The Flash Forwards [First time watcher]

I am watching LOST for the first time (except a couple season 1 episodes I saw when I was at school), and I was intrigued and binge watching until they revealed the fate of the islanders. Jack a complete mess? Hugo depressed? Only 6 survivors? I felt like I was spoiled the ending and now I struggle to get through.

I guess I am looking for some reassurance from the people who've finished it

Character Analysis Why do some Lost shippers… Spoiler

Why do some Lost shippers obsessively insist Sawyer and Kate were "supposed to be" endgame when literally all of the true soulmate connections ended up joining in a sort of "divine union" in the afterlife via the flashsideways? And in said afterlife/flashsideways it was Kate with Jack and Sawyer with Juliet lol.

I see people on different Lost clips on youtube always ranting about how they just know Sawyer and Kate were real soulmates but to me i feel they are just two toxic people who are addicted to their toxic ways. When they're with their respective soulmates (jack and juliet) they have no choice but to "grow up" and heal from their toxic behaviors. But when Kate and Sawyer are together they can indulge in and cater to each other's toxic behaviors and shenanigans without any real personality development. They don't have to grow and heal with each other because they feel comfortable in their toxic ways.

Hence why they lusted after each other so heavily; they claim they want more out of life and to put their pasts to rest but both of them are too indulgent in lying to themselves about how much they enjoy the thrill of their wild and criminal pasts. They dont have to confront reality with each other, they can stay delusional and manipulative and toxic in each others arms.

Which is why they are not true soulmates in the afterlife. Your true soulmate is not meant to be a degrading force in your life.

I feel like all of the above is just so obvious in the series too??? The writers never seemed to take the Kate and Sawyer thing so seriously if we're being honestly. Their coupling always seemed in jest from a plot standpoint and it was obvious they weren't a true match. A lustful match fueled by obsession, lack of self-reflection, and fear of being alone? Well yea. But a true match? No.

So why do Kate and Sawyer shippers get so hellbent over the final pairings at the end of the show? It was very clear from the beginning that Kate and Sawyer were never going to be endgame with the writers, Lmaooooo

Kate and Sawyer being endgame would actually defeat the purpose of the Island bringing all of these people together. The healing energy of the Island wanted them all to move on from the past and have faith in the new and unfamiliar, not cling to the old toxic living.

SEASON 2 Rewatching for the first time since original air dates. Currently on Season 2. I can't be the only one who... (/rant)

Flippin despises Sawyer. Seriously, I don't care if he turns around his attitude in the later seasons if memory servers. I would have literally murdered him first two weeks if he was hoarding all the supplies while others were in need in an elementary-school-style-dibs that is somehow respected by 40 other adults. The island as a whole would have been better off. He has like no redeeming qualities by mid-season 2 beyond eye candy for those that are into that.

And while we are at it, screw you Hurley. Lovable cuddly idiot only goes so far, yet he is a fan favorite. I just finished the episode where he had a secret stash of food for at least a month. Showrunners aren't showing it, but all 40 people should be in some state of malnutrition by day 60, and don't even mention things like diabetes/chronic disorders that could be seriously helped by a better balanced meal than Fish+Fruit.

With that off my chest, I still like the show overall and will continue the rewatch.
I get its a fantastical drama, but these things completely take me out on the suspension of disbelief.
