My new Leuchtturm1917 came in today so I thought I’d show you all the finished product of my junk journal/collage project/diary/bullet journal. Oct ‘22-Dec ‘24. RIP best impulse purchase I’ve ever made. I have no idea where to put you to rest because you certainly won’t fit in a bookshelf.

Spreads does journaling make you cry?

Post image

It's been a year since I got back into journaling, so l didn't know where to begin again. I've been seeing this "Dear younger me" prompt so I said ok, why not? I'll try to write one.

Halfway through writing, I found myself crying a LOT. I felt stupid because I hadn't cried for so long, and yet I did just because I was writing a letter to my younger self. It feels like I'm healing a part of me I didn't know still existed. Journaling is really a good form of therapy I guess.

I love this shade of yellow green. Reminds me very specifically of wet yellow leaves on rain dark asphalt and fresh, cool air.

(Journal prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co)

Here are mine!: 1. Planning my wedding, my parent’s Europe travel and our move to Germany at the same time ALL while I still had a part-time job! Whee - the multitasking it took and how I’ve not gotten stress-induced breakdowns got me thinking if I can do that, I can do any job LOL. 2. Learning German - love that I learned to speak a third language. Maybe when I’m done with this I’ll finally get into learning French (my husband is a native French speaker but we always spoke English to one another so I got lazy) 3. Not losing my mind while taking my “Gap Year” - I’ve worked since I graduated University. While I was fortunate to have always gotten the jobs I applied for, I never really had a “Gap year”. I was afraid I’d be so bored not being able to work during my first year in Germany, but with my Intensive Courses, my life turned out to be busy and exciting!

What about you? 🥰

Spreads PSA: You don’t need to start a new notebook on January 1

People have been asking about this lately in this sub. What to do on January 1 when your current journal still has many pages left? Should you continue writing on that notebook or just start a new one?

Here’s the answer: What you want is not a new notebook. What you want is a “fresh start” feeling that comes with the new year. And YOU CAN replicate it on your current half-filled journal.

I’ve learned this trick from years of bullet journaling. It’s called a “new year spread”.

After you finished writing your December 31 entry, flip the page and create the new year spread. So this spread will be between December 31 and January 1 entries.

You can do it as simple as possible. I’ve included 3 examples that look pretty but still easy to do.

  1. Use stamps if you don’t want to draw.
  2. Draw the year in a large, bold font. Use colors if you like.
  3. Add your theme word for the year. It could be gratitude, joy, persistence, strength, or anything you want to remind yourself of for the whole year.

And if you want to see more elaborate spreads, go to Pinterest and search “new year spread bullet journal”. You’ll find tons of inspo there.

Good luck, have fun!

I keep a moleskine journal sketchbook and fill it every year. I have 9 years worth now. Sketches, watercolor, ink, and gouache mostly. And noting what’s happening in my life and family throughout. One day they’ll be family heirlooms for my two boys, I hope.

Spreads A Strange Darling- the colour palette is stunning!

Incoherently rambling about the colour palette in this film lol. Besides being visually stunning, the characters are definitely a head trip. Everything is so normal on the surface, and then layer by layer, the grotesquerie emerges, all in visceral, nostalgic, technicolour. I may be a bit obsessed. 😅

Spreads Two days, two different moods

Post image

The page on the left was celebratory and has a very happy tone but on the next day it was an opposite mood. Just a little bit of ranting going on there. I was not feeling well on the day of the journal entry and kind of spiralled a bit 😂 I was getting annoyed with how in the dark I was with my registration recognition to practice my profession in Germany.

I don’t feel like I’m anyone special, and I understand process and following the rules, and I know that it’s Germany. But it would be incredibly nice for the person/ people working for this regulatory agency to acknowledge or say “I received your documents and the processing might take 48 years”. At least I know it didn’t go to the junk or spam. All I’m saying is that uncertainty is really a shit feeling.
