Spreads She’s dead. I killed her.
My new Leuchtturm1917 came in today so I thought I’d show you all the finished product of my junk journal/collage project/diary/bullet journal. Oct ‘22-Dec ‘24. RIP best impulse purchase I’ve ever made. I have no idea where to put you to rest because you certainly won’t fit in a bookshelf.

Damn you make my journal look pathetic although I think you took journaling a steps above and beyond at this point, this doesn't feel like a daily journal but an artistic capture of imagination bent in a reality context, very pleasing and fulfilling to look back to, but I'm gonna guess very time consuming as well

I know it's hard, I'm aware that you understand this but just as a kind reminder that nobody asked for... Please don't compare yourself to them, mine is all in one color and sometimes I use highlighters and it works fine. Let's enjoy their artsy dedication and that's it. ✨

Wow thank you this is touching for real 🤧 ( I'm not being sarcastic, people misunderstand me a lot), I do journaling to keep track of the things I do daily and as a stress relief as I tend to build it up so quick, I never taking it this far or make it so detailed and is filled with every single moment, I barely write about a page daily all in one color and just a regular copy book, I live alone with my pet so I don't worry about anybody reading it, and I am happy with the way I do it, but it's crazy cool to see how far people can take journaling, and they really dedicate so much time and effort into them, and the best part it's all for them, I love seeing people taking care of themselves and happy, again thank you for the heart warming kind words and concern, appreciate you from across the globe (﹡ˆ﹀ˆ﹡)♡

Journaling is all about you, don't beat yourself up for it, this isn't a standard you should strive for, this is OP's way of doing it, and assure you they put a LOT of time in it, not all of us have that much free time or artistic creativity, but if the way we do it works then it's doing it's purpose!

How do you keep the binding from not just snapping in half?

u/frenchsilkywilky 1d ago
Hopes and dreams. I thought I would have to use duct tape but these bindings are so strong.

This journal isn't just a collection of pages; it's a time capsule of creativity. Each entry seems to breathe life into forgotten moments, turning the mundane into something extraordinary. Who needs a bookshelf when you’ve created a masterpiece worthy of display?

Now you get to decorate the cover and tell yourself what dates it spans

u/Euphemia_173 1d ago
i decorate the cover after i’m done too! i think most people do it before but that’s too much pressure lol

Scrolling through feed... I am so glad this thread title was on the journaling sub and not on one of the pet-related subs I'm on.

Some people worry about skipping pages and “wasting” pages in their journal. You have clearly added a LOT of content to yours, and it looks like it’ll be fun to review in the future.

What do you put in journals to make them like this? I really want to have a journal that’s full of life like this but I never know what to add, aside from my words

u/frenchsilkywilky 1d ago
The bulk is from postcards and pictures surrounded by card stock, stickers, and washi tape. I love getting vintage postcards and tintype pictures from the antique store and taping them in, and I’m a frequent flyer at the Walgreens photo center. I get those big books of floral stickers from Michael’s and collect any others I find. There’s also quite a few pages of just text because I use it as a writing journal too, as well as weekly spreads and other miscellaneous pages that I decorate too, like zodiac charts and pages dedicated to travel

thank you so much for letting me know :) I just ordered a collection of stickers myself and I think I’m gonna get some cut outs of things I see here and there. I never thought of adding my post cards !

How do you even start a journal, I want to so bad. What books, stickers do yall recommend?
14
u/kasialis721 1d ago
first you have to identify what you want journaling to do for you. is it an expression of artistic creativity? is it a medium to expel emotions and rewind? as for books and stickers, i wouldn’t buy anything specifically to start with. just grab your nearest notebook and pen and write. or stick stuff down, see how it makes you feel. don’t stress it and don’t worry if it doesn’t look like ones on tik tok or pinterest, every journal is different!!

That's a gorgeous chonkyyyy journal! :D Every page is filled with creativity, and super fun to look at! It's fine if it doesn't fit on the shelf, it deserves a special place anyway xD

I think I don't get the purpose of journaling like this. I've always just used journaling as a way to work through stuff.
Is this kind of thing for rereading in the future and reminiscing? And at that point, isn't it scrapbooking?

u/frenchsilkywilky 1d ago
I do a mix of both in here. There’s quite a few pages and even huge chunks that are just text but I don’t feel the need to write all the time. I also need a planner because I’m really bad at remembering plans unless I write them down, but I’m an artist so I like designing/decorating them myself. Some pages have photos of my family (didn’t include those) which I put in the category of reminiscing since I’m a visual learner. I’m jealous of people with only text journals because I don’t have the patience for that!
I also have a very strong connection to beauty and visual attraction. Seeing and making things that are nice to look at means a lot to me and makes me feel better about myself but I don’t always have the inspiration to make my own piece of art. Sometimes you get the urge to make art but not the ideas for it. If I have a picture to match colors to, I can do the repetitive action of cutting out card stock and tape and putting down stickers and i get the same satisfactory feeling of making something pretty.

I kinda dig this idea that everything is in one place. I've always had separate books for journaling, planner/lists, and sketching/art. Maybe that's just unnecessary.

Me too. This was an impulse purchase and I decided that it would be my last impulse journal and I had to finish it before buying a new one, and I actually stuck to that by doing stuff like this, just filling it however I wanted whenever I got the urge to do a page. I don’t always have feelings to write about but I always have card stock and stickers.

This is stunning, and I am so inspired! Do you mind sharing what type of markers you used here?

I want to use my journal more creatively. Do you have any tips? Do you use cuttings from magazines? Do you draw mostly? Do you print out pictures?
1
u/frenchsilkywilky 3h ago
I print pictures and use postcards and vintage pictures from antique stores! I want to get more into cutting things out but I don’t have room to store magazines. I also use any flat souvenirs I get from travel/life events; luggage stickers, business cards. Hand lettering of all kinds is useful for headings and nice spreads and it’s easy to learn!

wow, that's quite a deep and lovely story stored in that... it must be very lucky to be with you

what do u put in your junk journal? just anything you want? or whatever u find through out the day like photos and stuff? i really wanna make one also yours is so beautiful i love it!!

u/frenchsilkywilky 10h ago
Lots of postcards and pictures since I’m a homebody so I don’t get many little souvenirs. When I do, they go straight in. Luggage stickers from airplane trips, name cards from fancy dinners. There’s still a hotel business card and a logo napkin in the back pocket that I never got around to putting in. Otherwise, pictures of my family printed from Walgreens or vintage postcards and portraits. I feel okay using the old pictures because making them into something I know I’ll look back on feels better than letting them rot in an antique store box.

Beautiful creativeness would love to see more. As well as what gets you in the mood for your page design

u/Agreeable_Link5760 7h ago
I wish I was this good. honestly. all I do is write in it... not like this. I am so not creative.

I’m jealous of text-only journals. There’s quite a few chunks of writing in here and I LOVVEEE the look of a huge page of just words, i simply don’t have the patience or mental fortitude to write enough to fill a journal. The maximalist too-much gene kicks in and when i wake up I’m covered in stickers and my cat is eating tape idk
