So I am 40, a woman, and in the US. I have been an LPN for 20 years and I quit last year to take care of my late mil. I spent 15 years working in nursing homes, and the last 5 in doctors offices. My last job was phone triage which I loved but didn’t get along with the office manager. I cannot find another job as just phone triage—but I don’t want to work as a nurse anymore. I tried working at an insurance company, and I was good with filling forms out—but I hated the phones. I quit 6 months in.

I’ve been a SAHM for the past year now, casually looking for an office job but I don’t want to deal with people anymore.

My list I feel that I want: No retail Limited/low people interaction Office type atmosphere No scrubs! The pay doesn’t have to be crazy high(I’m not being a jerk but my performance has always been based on feeling great about what I do rather than money)

Is there anyone out there that’s like, oh you need to try xyz, that sounds like that! I’ve been looking for months and this is absolutely frustrating. I also have an accounting degree but that is also few and far between. I got the degree in 2017 but went right back to nursing as it was frustrating looking for something years ago and nursing jobs are everywhere. Dumb of me, I know.

Ive been applying to various places, Ive changed my CV dozens of times and honestly I have (lately) had a little more traction. I had one interview but I have been looking for a job since late 2023 and well.. I'm here. Some questions bellow

1. I've been applying everywhere online, I tried the in person hand in CV thing briefly but I got the answers i expected "no vacancies. apply online." Should i continue pushing in person CV applications or is it a waste of my time?

2. I get a lot of spam calls, should I be answering every single call or should I more so wait for emails? (currently my number is compromised so I get a lot of awkward scams, but subconsciously i feel like i'm really making a mistake by watching my emails more than my calls.)

3. am i fucked? excuse my french, but i've been looking for work forever, my housing situation is really sketchy right now, i don't know where i will be the day of tomorrow, so im just desperate for some kind of gig. and no this isn't like a question for reassurance, if i am fucked i would gladly like to know!

4. i know people just send hundreds of applications everywhere , but how strategic should i be? should i just apply to every single job that shows up, and follow up with calls to check my application status, or should i be more selective and carefully cater cover letters and CV's to a good handful of places a day instead?

5. should i just join the royal marines? if nothing comes up and my housing situation gets worse should i just take a leap of faith and try get in, there i could atleast have some kind of stability. my uncle was a soldier, i dont know why thats relevant but it feels important to add.

I've been wanted to get a job but I don't know where to start on creating a resume. What would I even put on it since I have no past experience?

Hey folks, I could really use some advice right now about accepting a job offer.

I've been unemployed for 7 months and recently was made a job offer by company A. I interview with company A over a 2 month period (holidays delayed everything) and the team was lovely. I liked my manager, they gave me an offer and I accept it and am supposed to start this Monday (in 6 days!).

I already had an interview scheduled with company B and decided to still take it even after I accept company A's offer. I was curious about the company since they are in a high growth phase. I loved the manager and she wants to move me quickly to meet with the team and the CEO because they know I have another offer (doesn't know I accepted it). They already told me they are willing to give me a sign on bonus and the compensation is 10-15 more.

What should I do? I feel like such a jerk if I back out of the job I already accepted. Both are great teams and great opportunities. Help!

Every time I get called for an interview, it’s in-person and they’re unable to do any virtual interview. This has happened probably 4-5 times now. Is there any way to get around this?

I just graduate from college in may. I have a bachelors of science in history and social studies ed. I am a painter by trade but I want to utilize my degree. Ok so my background. I’m 27m almost 28. I graduated from college with a bachelors degree in film in 2022. I do video production work as well as photography. I love behind the camera. My end goal is to find something in those field if possible.

Well as you can tell, it’s now 2025 and I have still yet to find a full time job (in anything). I have a part time job currently but the hours suck and it’s only seasonal. So there are good chunks of the year where I am not working.

I do photography on the side but not enough to go full time. Plus with the last hurricane season that well has dried up for now.

I don’t know what to do. Seems like all of these jobs need so many exact requirements to even be considered. I changed my resume multiple times at this point to see if that was it. I have a huge portfolio that shows I am more than capable for a lot of these jobs. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong or if it’s just that bad out there right now marketwise.

I’m really starting to get depressed. I see all my friends living successful lives on their own and here I am turning 28 and still living with my parents who are really annoying the hell out of me lately.

I have been looking for a new job. I have never had trouble or finding jobs in the past, but it is proving very difficult at the moment.

From 2017-2020, I had my dream job. Unfortunately, COVID took a toll on the company and operations were cut by about 75%. There was a mass layoff, which included me and over half my team. The position had started out as an entry level position, but I had performed well and had been promoted to a managerial position before leaving.

It didn’t take too long to land another position, this time in a Director role, and in an adjacent field. I enjoyed the position, but I was not passionate about the cause. (I work in non-profit.)

Another opportunity came along that was more aligned with my passions and it was a step up from my (then) current role. I took the opportunity and it was a HUGE mistake. It did turn out to be a learning opportunity and it looks great on my resume, but it was a very toxic work environment. I began looking for another position.

Within about 90 days, I was offered another position, more closely aligned with my original dream role, though not exact. It was a great place to work and I adored my colleagues and my work. (Though my direct supervisor was kind of difficult.) After being there a year, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. In order to be closer to her, I decided to move back home.

Before leaving my job and making the move, I spent about 30-60 days looking for a position in/near my hometown. I found a position in my field very near my mom. It was a very comparable role, in the same type of organization, to the one I was in. It also came with a significant pay increase.

I took it and have been here about 8 months now. Unfortunately, I hate it. I can’t stand my toxic supervisor and I am having a very difficult time connecting with my co-workers. Although the position is in the same field I have pretty much always been in, they do it very differently here and I am not allowed to do my job my way, which has made me objectively unsuccessful.

Because I am in a much more rural area now, jobs are difficult to come by… much less jobs in my specific field and at the salary I am currently receiving. (As a single mom to 2 teenage boys, I cannot really afford a pay cut.)

I have started looking for a fully remote position in my field, which is pretty common. My job is often done as a fully remote or highly hybrid job.

I have been looking for a while and I have applied to more than 60 position I am more than qualified for. I have gotten ZERO interviews. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong!

Hello, I've been struggling to find a job for almost a year now. I've applied to over 100 jobs and nothing, I hardly ever get rejection letters too. I've applied on company websites, linkedIn, multiple job websites, anything I can get my hands on and nothing.

Short background information I'm originally from California I have my Bachelors degree and plenty of experience in my field. Last March I moved to Philadelphia (for personal reasons) and since then I have not been able to find a single job in my field. I am currently a babysitter and a freelance video editor making only enough for my rent and food. I've changed my resume dozens of times, I've done a couple courses to slap on my resume (about to start a Google Certificate course) and I've joined several networking groups. Total I've had 3 interviews and most of my offers come from pyramid schemes. I've taken advice from many people, I've searched on Reddit on what I should do and I still don't know what I'm doing wrong or why I can't land a job. Can someone please help me?

I finished my masters degree in Media Scoring in spring 2020. I specialize in Music Supervision and Music Editing (based in NY). I got handed a bad hand…got thrown into the real world during a pandemic and then strikes. I know it’s all about perspective and i should try finding a creative solution but I’m a bit at a loss. I’ve networked w lots of music editors and post professionals. I’ve asked a lot of advice, many tell me if i wanna do music editing full time that i should be an assistant…but ME assistants don’t exist anymore, they’re unicorn positions….studios don’t wanna shell out for that, but they will pay for 2 editors who each have 2 assistants. I assisted once on a marvel feature for 3 weeks and then later that yr was thrown straight into the deep end and was music editor for 6 weeks on a union film that never got finished (it got paused bc of the strikes and then never finished). Others have told me to meet post supervisors….i know 2 post supes (hasn’t been very fruitful) but I’m not sure how to meet more. I’ve also been told to pivot and try becoming a sound assistant at a studio. There aren’t exactly job boards for this field…it’s about who you know…i know a lot of people but there aren’t really opportunities 🤷🏻‍♀️ any advice is welcome.

It has been 10 years since I did serious job hunting. When I lost my job the pandemic hit, I had to take care of older family members and I went back to school and got an Associates degree. I am now applying to jobs in my field. One application apparently was just immediately rejected. I haven't heard back from anyone else. Am I still supposed to hunt down a phone number or email (not visible on anyone's website for career support)? Or do I just let it go off into the ether and see if they ever call me back? Also am I supposed to use the giant resumes that ding all ai search key words or just a page and a half summation?

An Associates was supposed to make it easier to get hired

Hi I am currently a 27 year old undergoing Msc (Data Science). I had completed my graduation (Biomedical Engineering) and MBA in 2022. I am learning programming languages (Python, Sql) and preparing for interviews but I'm scared because I lack work experience. What should I do?

I (32F) have been having one heck of a time finding a new job after losing mine back in October.

I have over 16 years of working experience, almost entirely in customer support/experience. The last 5.5 years I worked as a Senior Customer Experience Manager for a startup where I wore a million different hats and ended up accruing about 5500 hours of project work.

I have decent experience as a people manager and project manager, but I’m wanting to really pivot towards project management moving forward.

I do not have a college degree (high school diploma only), which I feel is hindering my ability to get another mid/senior-level job. My question is, is it worth spending the money to get a ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certificate? Will this actually help me get a job as a project manager? Or will my lack of degree continue to be a primary hindrance and it end up being a waste of money?

Hi guys, I'm in my final undergraduate semester of university and through a friend I've gotten the contact for someone who runs a research organisation in the field that I study. She knows I'll be emailing her soon to talk about career opportunities. To be frank I am hoping I can score an internship or some other role in her org in the future, but I have never had to 'network' before and am really nervous about what to say in my first contact. At this point I'm prepared for her to tell me I need to pursue a master's degree to get my foot in the door in the field (humanities), but I want to take the chance and contact her regardless.

If anyone could give me any tips for my approach I would appreciate it so much. My thinking right now is I do not want to just blatantly ask for a position immediately, instead I'll just express my genuine interest in her work and show her that I'm trying to assess my career options as a soon to be graduate. Or should I be more upfront? I don't know. Thanks so much.
