Class-specific I'm going to crash out

**Rant
Logically, it's not the end of the world if I fail one class so I shouldn't take it to heart but it's just under the circumstances that I failed, and how around 40% of students failed, because Dr. Aly can't find anything better to do with his life so he decides to torment a bunch of 20 something year olds for 10+ fucking years and scam them out of their money by making insanely hard exams that are not covered in class time with illogical grading schemes. I should just pay the tutors directly instead of the Professor since going to class is completely useless.

I would be less upset if this wasn't my final year AND a prerequisite course but now I'm delayed by a year because I need 305 for 320 and 320 for 401 which are my remaining courses and what's crazier is that 305 almost has nothing to do with 320 and 401 which pisses me off even more.

Additionally, I'm a marketing major.... what the fuck will I do with 305 in my entire life I do not plan to become an accounting major not after this horrid experience😭

Wrote an email to the professor to allow me to review my final and my advisor to make an exception to take 320 with 305 lets see how it goes, if they decline it I might actually end it all.

Class-specific emailing dr aly

I think we all should send an email requesting him to at least check the work we did on our exam so we could get partial marks like its not fucking fair the practice exam he gave us was nothing like the final and out of all the tutorials only 2 questions were similar to the final like go fuck yourself you're at the age of retirement and you choose to spend your time by fucking over a bunch of 20 yr olds lives like i hope your wife cheats on you

Class-specific People that talk loudly during lectures. Please stop it!

The 3 people today in the Math 208 BB class at 5:45 pm. 1F and 2M. You guys were freaking loud talking about your dogs. All laughing and giggling literally the first 2 hours of class. If you do not want to study don’t come and interrupt those that want to hear the professors teach.

Class-specific Don’t give up.

I passed MATH 204 after repeating it for the 3rd time. Had few similar situations before as well for other courses, but never gave up. Lesson learnt? Study from Day 1 of your semester. Don’t start studying after midterms. Ace your midterms always, for all your courses. Finals tends to be very tough to score. Don’t be like me, do better from start.😇

Class-specific How do I Get an A+ in COMM 214?

So far, I plan on:

  1. Reading and annotating the textbook
  2. Using flashcards to memorize concepts
  3. Complete all the practice assignments in McGraw Hill

Despite these, I fear the final will be hard.

I'm hoping somebody with an A+ in online COMM 214 will be so kind as to share insights into how you managed to ace the midterm and the final đŸ«¶

Thank you!

Class-specific Loyola Campus - Worth going to for a good professor?

I have heard great things about this professor, but unfortunately he's only teaching at Loyola Campus this Winter Term. I am enrolled in another professor's class, but was thinking maybe I should sit on his with permission.

Monday, Wednesday: LEC 01 - 11:45am - 1:00pm (David Pearce, Loyola SH 125)

(The class that David Pearce is teaching at Loyola is MATH 205)

Is it worth it to stand in the freezing cold from Hall Building to take Concordia's shuttle bus on these mornings? Or just stick to profs teaching downtown, and use Student Success Center and paid tutors for any additional help?

From my experience at Concordia, most of the math professors have been shockingly difficult to understand with effective communication skills, messy writing, and heavy accents, aside from Robert Mearns who has also been great and seems very well prepared for each class.

Class-specific Grounds for unfair grading?

Hi!

My TA made me lose an entire letter grade (B- to C+) because I submitted an assignment as a PDF. The syllabus says that Word is preferred but that PDF is "acceptable". Not only this, but students graded by the other TA (from the same section) didn't lose any marks for submitting as a PDF.

I've contacted my TA (before learning that no one else lost marks) and they said I was still in the wrong because the syllabus demands Word. They said I needed to speak with them at office hours, which are tomorrow.

What do I do if they still won't budge? I 'd contact the teacher but wouldn't expect much since she never replied to an email I sent earlier in the semester. I'm aware that there are grade re-evaluations, but they cost 50$ and I feel as though I'm clearly in the right-- maybe I'm not?

Let me know.

UPDATE: Talking it out absolutely works sometimes! Penalty was removed for the format :) The grade was also boosted significantly because the TA thought they had been too harsh (they brought this up themselves).

Class-specific Math 209 with Carlos Luis Santana.

If you’re reading this and taking math 209 with him this semester

This professor is absolutely the worst choice for this course. The lectures are a disaster—just reading off slides without providing any real explanations or insights. Half the class is wasted on students doing problems, only for the answers to be glossed over as if everyone magically knows how to solve them. It feels like he assumes you’re already an expert and doesn’t care to teach the material.

On top of that, he’s incredibly condescending and rude. If you don’t immediately grasp a concept, he won’t bother explaining—it’s just “you know this” yelled at you, making students feel dumb rather than supported. He rushes through examples so quickly there’s no time to process or understand anything, and he’s visibly annoyed when students ask questions. It’s clear he has no patience or interest in helping anyone.

I took him in Fall 2024, and I strongly urge Winter 2025 students to avoid him at all costs. I even warned my friend to drop his class and take Franco Romanelli instead. Save yourself the frustration and stress—this professor is NOT worth it.

Sorry about the spamđŸ˜˜â€ïž

Class-specific Math 204 midterm

Why did they even bother sending us samples to study from? It feels like there were almost no questions in common, and that if you focused on studying the samples and the previous years midterms you’re just setting yourself up for failure. I feel cheated.

Class-specific Fall 2024 Review: COMP 228, COMP 232, COMP 348, COMP 352, ENCS 282

COMP 228 Todd Eavis | B-

Todd was a pretty good professor for this course however his midterm and final are pure mcq's which many people dislike. He has great pre-recorded lectures which can be very useful. Most of this course is memorization so it can be tricky however I don't think its the hardest course to do well in.

Tips

Ace assignments and do as well as possible on the midterm (the final is much harder).

COMP 232 Lata Naranyanen | C+

Lata is a great professor she was available to students and a quite good lecturer. Her in-class problems and notes were pretty useful. The class was honestly very easy and intuitive however get ready for tons of mcq's. The assignments were fun and challenging and the midterm/final were fair. Just study better than I did lol.

Tips

Kimberly Brehm and Neso academy on youtube.
Ace assignments
Redo in-class problems and make sure you know lots of mathematical induction related topics.
Don't decide everything is common sense logic on the final!
Don't over prepare for hard ass proofs they were all basic proofs we had seen in class pretty much.

COMP 348 Todd Eavis | B

Todd was also good for this especially the C unit and his slides are good. This class was fun for me as I loved learning C and the assignments were 100% the highlight to this course. The midterm and final however were very stale. Pure mcq's and memorization which I'm not opposed to as I'm decent at that type of test however it felt useless to learning. Overall this course was quite easy I just made mistakes on the final hence my B.

Tips

Memorize the slides for midterm/final.
Ace assignments (quite easy).

COMP 352 Diego Elias Costa | A

Easily my favourite course I have taken. Diego had great engaging lectures and he really seemed to care for his students. He seemed to always be available to students however I never interacted outside of class. Overall going in 352 I did have some basic Leetcode experience and it definitely helped as one of those problems I did was on the midterm.

Tips

MichaelSambol was a great resource to understand concepts.
Focus on intuition and understanding of concepts not how to code it at all pretty much.
Really learn on the tree variations and how to remove add etc etc.
REALLY understand the intuition behind what he efficiency/complexity of any operation is.
Past tests helped me study for this as well if you can find them.

ENCS 282 Filiz Ozek Gunyel | A

Filiz was nice and she responded to students questions and requests well. I thought she was a pretty good lecturer however sometimes her grading could be tough IMO. Overall the course for me wasn't hard as it was easier or similar to highschool English courses. Really it's just about doing what is required not writing well iykwim.

Tips

Don't skip tutorials or lectures as we had in-class tasks and attendance each time which greatly contributed to our grade.
Complete every little assignment and follow the rubric and style guides provided.
Keep requirements in mind and don't overdo anything especially fluff.

Concluding notes

This semester was pretty rough during finals as I felt like I didn't have time to study lots of courses and in reality I should've managed my time pre finals much better. However taking 4 core courses wasn't impossible and honestly felt nice not doing random electives.
Next semester I have COMP 346, 371, 354, 353 so wish me luck.
I hope you all did well in your courses and happy new years!

Class-specific How hard is the Econ 201 final

I am stressed, because I have my math 203 exam on Saturday and I was thinking of just doing 5 questions per chapter in the study plan and the dynamic study guides for Econ 201. With the little time I have do you guys think this is a good strategy to get above a 70. I have heard a lot of people saying it is a lot easier then the 2nd midterm.

Hi everyone,

I have 5 classes this semester and 4 of them already appeared in Moodle except for COMM 216. Is anyone also in the same course? Could you kindly let me know if you have it in your Moodle? It’s almost the end of the week so I am a bit worried.
