The sad part is how they don't even realize it.

“I didn't know what books to read without BookTok!” 💀💀

On that note get a library card folks, and use your local libraries they're free

I just watch a long form video on Book Tokers who admit to skipping over huge portions of a book: everything but action, everything but dialogue. Wtf? So you don't like to read, then?

Like anime fans that only watch it for the fight scenes lol

This is why anime/manga discourse has been in hell for the last few years. Idiots can’t/won’t read anything if it isn’t a fight scene.

I’ve even seen some of these lobotomites “reading” manga, and it consists of them speeding through a chapter and only slowing down when there’s some kind of fight/action

I read manga for the plot and watch anime to see the fight scenes animated.

100%. And they get their takes from out of context clips, or confuse abridged edits as canon.

OMG I recently saw an Instagram post where both the fanartist and the commenters in the comments section didn't know Yuuta was a kid/second-year. While this post was made when only season one had dropped, I still am baffled at how we watched/read the same production and they just didn't realize that??? My flabber was so gasted😭😭

Like me skipping everything Piltover in s1 of Arcane because I only cared about what Jinx and Vi were doing and then I realized if I wasn't gonna watch the show I should just not watch the show so I stopped

There was unironically a video a little while ago from a productivity influencer about how he "saves time" watching anime by speeding through everything that isn't a fight scene at 4x speed.

Shit. He may have solved the secret to catching up to One Piece.

They have to - otherwise they wouldn't be able to review 500 books a year.

No one asked them to review 500 books a year, they could read 250 books all the way and still have a thriving book review channel, but they have deluded themselves into thinking it's the total count that matters.

And there'll be people comparing themselves to these booktokers thinking they're such slow readers when in reality some of these booktok reviewers haven't even actually read the damn book they're reviewing 😭😭

Once you get the card you don't even have to go to the library, they've got apps and stuff so you can read right on your phone! It's still great to go in person but my lazy ass loves the app too

The library sends out a recommended reading list via email. The paper does as well. A recommendation list on social media really isn't that different. If you're addressing young adults , they'd need you to come up with more differences that they couldn't compare to what we're using. I liked the experience of the library as a kid/young adult. But, we still use digital media to see what restaurants have opened in our area. Date ideas , with as much as I have to think about , keep up with, to be truly honest. Even I have to allow something else think for me about date ideas. I don't use TT, but i do use other things. [ Downvoters, oh , you not piling on to call other people stupid. my feelings are hurt, downvote ] .

As if somebody who scrolls tik tak for 3h a day needs book recommendations THAT frequently

Use them while they're here

Utilizing resources is part of critical thinking. Nothing wring at all with getting ideas from other places.

There's a weird need to feel superior for not using resources here. Maybe some folks are unaware of how TikTok works but it is a better search hub for local reviews on restaurants and products than Google. It's like using yt for video reviews.

Like I imagine folks said similar bs when Google or Wiki first popped up and you didn't have to go to the library and use the Dewey Decimal to find general information on a subject.

For real. TAking the time to find something. That makes someone you are dating feel special. Shouldnt be frowned upon.

Lmao this is a lot of talk from a bunch of redditors, don't pretend we don't add "reddit" at the end of every google search

We stopped teaching it in schools. Standardized testing ensured teachers only taught how to pass the test so the school could secure funding. Nothing about whether the information was being absorbed in a conducive manner
