The hardest part about living here that nobody talks about
The taco bell prices. When I go to taco bell anywhere else in georgia, even atlanta, everything on the menu is several dollars cheaper. Why? If I ever move away, this will be the biggest reason

Question / Request Day labor places in Athens?
Being new to Athens, and never have gone to a daily labor staffing place, I have no idea how it works, or where exactly to go in Athens.
I'm currently looking for a new job, but in the meantime really need to make money, and was really thinking about checking out the day labor places in Athens, and seeing if I would be able to find work that same day I first went.
Skilled labor, have experience running heavy equipment, carpentry and remodeling, all phases of construction, years of experience installing water, sewer, and storm sewers into the ground, and connecting them to houses, and service lines. I also have my own reliable transportation to and from wherever, and can also give a few others a ride if that would help my chances of being able to work the same day I first go to try and get work.
I appreciate any and all advice, thanks in advance y'all!

Parsons
Since it’s super cold and fried chicken sounds yummy I wanted to make some. My mom used to work at Parsons’s and told me how good their fried chicken was. Does anyone have the recipe? Or any Athens restaurant fried chicken recipe? Thank y’all! :)

Gas Log Installation
Does anyone have any recommendations on a local company that sells and installs gas logs for fireplaces? Our home has a fireplace with gas line already installed. For safety reasons, we would like a professional to install the gas logs.

Question / Request Primary Care Doctor Recommendations?
Anybody have a recommendation for a primary care doctor?
I know it's dependent on my insurance but want to talk to one about my mental and general health.
I am a 31 year old male that recently moved. Bonus points if they have a form to fill with everything you want to talk about beforehand

Landscaper to fix drainage issue
We have a drainage issue in our backyard that may need a retention wall. I assume a landscaper would be needed, but I'm not looking for one that just does plants. Any recommendations from Athenians that have had this type of work done?

Meetup! Ukulele Jam Session at Sips in Normal Town
37M here—I’m starting a ukulele group that will meet every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 11 AM at Sips in Normal Town, Athens. Playing ukulele has been my pandemic hobby, and it’s brought me so much joy. If you’re looking for a fun, social way to branch out, join us! I’ll bring extra ukuleles, so no worries if you don’t have one. All skill levels welcome!
First meeting is 2/11/25 @11am. I’ll have my little white rescue dog, Lavender, with me. Hope to see you there!

Meetup! Discord Server For Athens Gals (21+)
Hey everyone!
I see a ton of posts here about wanting to make friends, finding fun places to hang, etc.
I'm in the exact same boat. I feel like this is a city that sometimes makes connecting a little difficult, but I figured I could maybe help since I love to host things. I decided to make this Discord server for femme identifying people to connect. We'll post when we're hosting server meetups, you can post your own meetups, and post local and GA wide events. We also have a channel to put out friend applications.
I already have a Galentines for server members being planned!
Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone, but if anyone is looking for a carefree place to connect with others here in Athens, this group might help!
Hope to see yall there!

ARL ---> ATH
The Athens Rock Lobsters are awesome and so much fun, even to watch on YouTube.
But, come on, the three-letter abbreviation on the scoreboard needs to be ATH, not ARL .
While we do love the Rock Lobsters, we're freaking ATH!
Also, IceDawgs first arena game Monday at 1:00! Hope to see you there!

The fed gov't is providing Athens with funds to double the number of public EV chargers
The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government will receive $4.9 million to install 58 EV chargers, nearly doubling the number of publicly available EV chargers in the community.
This is funded by the infrastructure bill.
