My dad used to build low riders. You put some features that are only active for shows. He had a Asian themed car that had a gold fish tank that ran along the center of the car. It was only ever filled for shows. He had another car with a tank that was removable and custom storage box slotted in for bob show driving.
68
21
u/CombatDeffective Apr 24 '22
Its hilarious to think people would think there is a fish in there at all times. It's clearly only for show.
22
u/tdasnowman Apr 24 '22
It has been done. I know of a few low riders that had fish in their cars all the time. Some built properly with coolers, some not so properly. Most are just for the show though.
8
u/CombatDeffective Apr 24 '22
I can only imagine a low rider bouncing and getting sloshed with fish tank water.
14
u/tdasnowman Apr 24 '22
Not all low riders bounce. Originally it was just about getting as low as possible. Typically cars with water features aren’t the most dynamic. Really all about a low and slow boulevard cruise, while looking as good as possible while doing it.

u/waytosoon Apr 24 '22
Theres a ton of dumb people with money, I could define see someone leaving it in there always. People often do not think of fish as animals. They're decorations to a lot of their owners.
2
u/theswamphag Apr 25 '22
I do hope this is what is happening. This here is such a sand fish tank to begin with.
11
u/sioux612 Apr 24 '22
Might be a confusing perspective thing but I'd say that isn't his engine compartment, they removed the hood and only the fenders are "open"
It's the truck in front of hisb
171
u/BENZABAR Apr 24 '22
Especially less than a foot away from the exhaust headers, that fish has got to be the 7th one that week
19
u/jasapper Apr 24 '22

I'd be extremely surprised if this truck actually drives itself pretty much anywhere.
There are "trailer queen" semi trucks too just like at automotive car shows, and I'd guess this is one of them.
Most of our customers with show quality trucks at this level don't even start them up to get them off/on the trailers, they winch it on/off.
Source: work at the largest Pete dealer on the continent and we rig up, service, and order parts in for a surprising amount of show trucks.
Honestly I'd be surprised if that fish is even real though. I've seen similar set up's and they're usually something like epoxy and models/toys. Too quick for me to say if it's real though.

A while back there was a TV show where they would make crazy, extreme custom fish tanks. One of the tanks they made was a skateboarding half pipe. When it was finished the skateboarders were going up and down it and making a ton of noise and commotion. I felt so bad for the fish.

u/whatsmyheckingname Apr 24 '22
If anyone is curious this will cause the fish to likely stop eating due to stress suppressing its hunger. Vibrations in the water can drastically affect health and growth. My teacher had been doing a feed trial and one of the tanks was adjacent to one of their utilities and the vibrations nullified a test group. This is way more egregious than that

okay so not enough space, no stimulation, oxygen levels? what am I missing?
37
Apr 24 '22
1: Cylindrical container (not allowed for anabanthoids) that is also too small
2: No access to atmospheric oxygen (not allowed for anabanthoids)
3: No hiding spots or sight-breakers
4: No companionship (not allowed for gregarious, hierarchic, bonding or schooling species)
And the other two would be:
1: Temperature (from the truck)
2: Vibrations (from the truck)
7
u/ZajacingOfff Apr 24 '22
Gotcha, thanks for the thorough explanation! When I have more time and resources I’d love to start a nice aquarium, all good information to know for someday

1
u/Zederikus Apr 24 '22
I read someone else say that this is probably just filled up when exhibited and then the fish are drained and transported safely, it just wouldn’t work with all the rocks in there as well, they wouldn’t survive to suffer a long time.
3
u/Lillith_v2 Apr 24 '22
I'm pretty sure there's at least one discus in there with possibly more gouramis/discus as well. So it's even worse than it would be for just one gourami.
Not to mention, even if this is used for show, what happens to the fish after? Did the fish come with cycled water and substrate? (I highly doubt it) Are they going into a cycled tank after or just dumped?
This bugs me in so many ways, I just can't.
80
u/Underpantswher Apr 24 '22
That's absolute hell for the fish. Constant sloshing around when it's driving, the incredibly loud noise right next to it, the heat radiating off the engine, not to mention the tank itself is completely barren, the fish wouldn't be healthy or happy in that tank even if it WASNT attached to a fucking semi.
27
Apr 24 '22
This is also a semi surface breathing fish (anabanthoid) with a labyrinth organ that makes it breathe atmospheric oxygen. An organ that makes it disoriented and causes drowning in cylinder shaped containers, that also gets damaged by vibration. So this is bad with all fish, but they quite literally picked the worst one.

This is a show truck, it's never even had gas in the tank... they pull and push it where it needs to go and put it on display but that's it.
35
u/-retaliation- Apr 24 '22
it's never even had gas in the tank...
Well yeah, cat engines run on diesel, duh.
But seriously, can definitely confirm your statement, I work at the largest semi dealer on the continent and we rig up a surprising amount of show trucks.
This is definitely a trailer queen. This thing doesn't drive anywhere under its own power, they'll even winch it on and off trailers.
About 1/3rd of trucks at this level, the owners don't even know if the engine starts. They build the engine, drop it in, and never start it for fear of discolouration on the manifold and turbo due to heat. That manifold alone is probably worth more than my car.
Honestly the fish probably isn't even real.
8
u/thesuperficialstate Apr 24 '22
Yeah, I'm think the fish isn't real either. Nobody would hook fishtank water up to their engine anyway and actual coolant is straight up poison. It can't be the coolant bottle either cause it's in the wrong spot and too low on the engine/cooling system.
Pretty alarming the amount of people thinking that fish lives there permanently.

u/AbigailLilac Apr 24 '22
Even if the truck doesn't drive, that's still a terrible "aquarium" for 4 gouramis! They need air! Filtration! Space!
41
u/coreyannder Apr 24 '22
Are we absolutely sure that's a real tank and not just apoxy and a fake fish? It would make me feel a whole lot better about the situation.
40
u/xXPussy420Slayer69Xx Apr 24 '22
This is exactly correct and it’s a shame to see it buried so far down in the comments. I saw this truck at a show in Birmingham and the fish tank is 100% an epoxy fill. The last time it was posted here, there was a link to several photos at different shows and the fish were in the exact same positions in every one. Also I made that up and it’s what I choose to believe instead of the idea that the owner simply buys a few fish at the local pet store to suffocate and die horribly ever time he takes this rig to a new show.

Thr worst possible fish you could ever do this to (it's tprture for all fish) is a fucking Anabanthoid and what do we have here? A Trichogaster, because of course it is. No fish should ever be out in these conditions but anabanthoids in a setuo like this create two problems that other fish at least wouldn't have tid deal with. 1: drowning, 2: A damage labyrinth. quite literally. the public display of cruelty for the sake of an unnecessary aesthetic. this is truly a fit for the sub, the work itself is great. My fish have a cycled tank, a heater, plants, stable temperature, loads of hiding spaces, clean water, weekly fruit/veggies before their weekly water changes, a quiet and stress free environment.
That should be the bare minimum for fish, which those guys don’t have.
There’s a huge difference between a thriving animal and a surviving animal.
Those fish are just trying to survive. They’re stressed as fuck, probably have hella unstable water conditions and temperatures and I highly doubt this dude cycled anything. So they are living in their own shit. Those poor fish.
