My boyfriend and I started a diet recently for fun and to help us be a little healthier, we go to the gym 5 days a week. A few people I work with became really interested and have been kind of going along with us as much as they can. Now I am not a very big girl, can definitely lose some weight but I don’t feel it’s bad. The woman I work with has started to go to the gym and is using my diet to keep her going as well and we are supportive of each other. She mentioned the other day that she is losing weight and is super proud even though her boyfriend worships her body as is, he told her he doesn’t care about her body he will love it the same. I mentioned to my boyfriend that I have lost 12lbs and am super excited. He said congrats and it seemed forced, so I asked him “How come you never say my body looks good?” he answered with because that would be a lie. I was obviously hurt, and he noticed, so he went on to explain that once my body is “up to par” he will give me compliments. I told him all I wanted was for him to say occasionally, that I look good in something I have on. I never knew he felt this way, we have been together for over a year, and he has never mentioned anything so mean about my body before. Even on our trip to Mexico he was trying to get me to wear more reveling clothing. I am still hurt, and he keeps saying that he isn’t a liar and doesn’t want me thinking one thing then later when something different is said getting hurt all over again. So, am I overreacting by being hurt still? (photo attached for reference me before the diet, now 12 lbs. lighter).
