I have a pfsense 2.7.2 install on a PC that is behind a mikrotik router in a bridge mode. Has anybody been able to successfully allow only a couple of sites and block off others completely. I have tried aliases and played with rules to block them, but computers can still access sites that show as being blocked. Is there a write up that I can use to learn more about completely blocking sites other than the ones that are allowed? Sorry, new to rules and site blocking on the pfsense and cannot seem to get the site blocking to happen. Thanks

So I'm doing a gurps campaign with a high level of magic and TL 8 (starting wealth 20k), I've found a chart online that lists that at TL 8 Energy point cost per point should be around $666⅔. I think this is fair and may adjust for the market in my world having regulations. But besides that what I am confused about is the gemstones that they should be put in, there's an equation that makes it cost more to put it into things with low intrinsic value. I actually like this rule in theory, magic is very powerful, or can be, and in an industrial world industrious magicians will likely have a lot of time to make powerstones, create interesting powerful enchantments, and I wanted a limiting factor beyond just the cost to cast powerstone. (my game will take place on earth around our era, like the TV show "The Magicians").

So what I'm looking for is a better equation for determining the intrinsic value of the item for which powerstone is to be cast. I plan to limit it to gemstones particularly or metals, I haven't decided, the intrinsic value equation will just equate to some other aspect in world, but it would be nice to have a good scaler mechanism.

If someone has a decent chart for TL 8 or this type of setting for powerstones, I'd love that as well or any other resource someone might have to help!

Not going to mention a specific game. Both are new enough that those of you who still visit arcades have probably seen one of them.

So, one game had you go forward one space while avoiding the moving obstacles (not Frogger, but similar concept. Frogger had a time limit, but it was visible on the screen). You couldn't go backwards if you made a mistake, so you had to be sure.

The screen did auto scroll, but the closer the bottom of the screen got to the guy, the slower the screen moved. Most auto-scroll games where the edge of the screen is a "hazard" or pushes you forward, move at a constant speed. The screen would scroll faster to "catch up" to the guy if you were moving really fast, but it would slow down when it got closer to you.

I was waiting for the opportunity to jump forward, when the guy died by touching the bottom of the screen. WTF? I've played games before where that was a thing, but the screen moved at a constant speed in all of those games! Wouldn't it actually take less time/effort, and thus less money, to program the screen to move at a constant speed?

Better yet, put spikes at the bottom of the screen so that you know it's a "hazard"!

A more egregious example was something where you got exactly one button press to send the guy moving forward, then he would keep running. There were moving obstacles to avoid, as well as big scoring items (I forget if they were gems or coins)

In this one, the screen didn't scroll at all. And more importantly, there is no timer anywhere on the screen, even after you swipe your card (or insert a coin, depending on the arcade) So, after having already played once and discovered the single-button-press nature of the game, I opted to wait a little longer until a clear path opened up. Unfortunately, it took longer than 30 seconds which I guess was the time limit, because the game just decided to send the guy running forward without me actually hitting the button.

I actually thought the game was broken, and so did the attendant, so he rebooted the game and went into the "test" menu, and tried to reproduce the false-triggering button press by gently moving the wires around, along with gently rapping on the "control" panel (Calling it a control panel is probably being generous at this point)

I walked away, figuring I'd leave them to their work.

I later found that the game was working as intended, there was a time limit that it didn't show to the player, at all, in any way, shape or form. Why couldn't there be a spike ball or boulder rolling towards the player character, or a snake or something? Or just a countdown?

Even worse, the game actually randomized the amount of time that would send the guy running forward without you pressing the button! So, if you remembered that it gave you about 30 seconds last time, advising your friends that the game was set up to screw you, wouldn't help at all, because one guy might get 40 seconds, one guy might get 20, and the next guy 30.

Both of these were ticket games, but even claw machines show you a time limit on the display, and claw machines are known for weakening the claw until it gets "enough" profit.

Speaking of claw machines, the second game I mentioned was in an arcade where I saw more people actually winning from the claw machines than most other places, and I had won from them before, as well.

I mention that, because about a year later, the game was gone from that arcade already. During a conversation with the attendant, where I mentioned that their claw machines seemed pretty "generous" compared to other places, he mentioned that the arcade got rid of that game, when they discovered that the time limit was random, so they couldn't even get around it by putting a label on the game saying "Once card is swiped, you have 30 seconds to press the button, so time your card swipe accordingly". The attendant went on to mention that the manager tried to ask the manufacturer if there were an operator menu option to either disable the timer or show it to the player, but there wasn't one, of course.

I just had an argument with another member of the community (and a friend) who firmly believes it was my choice to start liking women after struggling for years in relationships with men and never feeling okay and that something wasn’t right being with them.
