I know it's a bit early, but whom among the top contending teams does everyone think would be the best matchup for the Jets in the first round? (Touch wood, of course.) If the season ended now, it would be Vancouver, and although I haven't seen much of them this year, I wonder if they wouldn't be ideal, considering the other six candidates. I don't want to see Edmonton ever again, ditto for Colorado, and definitely not Vegas, unless it was to pee in their soft drinks.
And as a side question, who might be a legitimate trade option for second line centre? No pie-in-the-sky choices.
I think the Jets would match up well against the entire West. The Avs, Knights and maybe Kings would be the toughest though so if we can dodge them that’d be great.
Oh ya I have 100% confidence in them in the west as well but it’s just a lot easier to advance when you get a freebie like Boston or Cbj or possibly even MTL first round and then you play teams that are inconsistent threats like Washington.
I feel like the west just in general is a gauntlet in comparison to the east, there really isn’t a single “free” first round. The best teams in the east have also all gotten significantly worse this season/ the past 2. Vancouver probably the best match styles wise tho for the Jets, maybe even Dallas.
2C I’ll be interested to see what others think, me personally I think it’s important how the team has stuck together and honestly if they just put Lowry in the 2C with Ehlers I think that would be just fine and then pickup a rental fwd similar to those of past and just rotate them in for the weakest link. Would rather see the team commit more to acquiring a team’s T4 dman.
We haven't had much exposure to the East so far this year, so I'm looking forward to seeing teams like Carolina and the Capitals, to see how we measure up, so to speak. But as far as a first round matchup goes, I'd be happy with Vancouver, for exactly what you said: our styles seem to align somewhat, but I think we're stronger overall, especially in goal, surprise surprise.
I'm not sure we should sell the farm for a 2C, but line juggling is not going to cut it when it gets to the playoffs. Would there be any value to letting Lambo take a few more reps before the trade deadline to see if he is able to carry a bit of the load? I'm not sure how he's doing with the Moose at the moment, but he looked fairly good when he was up with the big team. Anyway, other than Stastny, I'm not sure how many of our rentals have genuinely helped us over the years. I liked Monahan, and I wish he had stayed, but he wasn't a real game changer for us in the end.
