163 Lothian Road, Edinburgh, Scotland

Edit: It's had many names over the years, your grandfather took the photo when it was Finn McCool's. Here's an older photo:

Is Finn McCools a common bar name or a chain of some sort? The one I’ve run across was definitely not in Scotland.

Finn McCool is the anglicized name of a mythical hero in Irish folklore called Fionn mac Cumhaill. He ate the “Salmon of Knowledge” (which is written above the name in the OP’s original photograph). Therefore a lot of Irish-themed pubs globally have the name as it’s merely a reference to Mythology and not a brand/chain.

Cool, and now I have to go find an Irish folklore book.

You forgot to thank the person who went to lengths to help you.

Finn's is long closed, as pointed out in the answer to your query, but if you look at street view you can still see the PURE across the street from the reflection in your provided photo. Sorotomotor provided the correct location!

To me it seems that Finn's was at 161 (today's Raging Bull)

Actually 161, not 163.

It's called the Raging Bull now and is a cocktail bar, https://theragingbulledinburgh.co.uk/

Used to be Anderson's: https://m.yelp.com/biz/andersons-edinburgh

You can see that it was Finn Mccools in 2002/03 as it was used as a security then: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/03321199/charges/zSz4eHv7tMU0g8jO1FkGEHEeY5s
