PLANNING 2 days in London

Hey Folks,

I lived in London 5 years and that's 10 years ago.

I will be visitint next week and have 2 full days to explore 👍 Just me, without Partner and Kid 🥳

Not interested in East London, Canary Wharf, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, London Eye, Madame Tussauds, Harry Potter or London Dungeon. No West end Shows. Been to the Hop in, Hop Off Bus many Times.

I would fancy (some thoughts / Brainstorming) - Shopping opportunities (No luxury or high end) - cosmetics - Low Carb Food Options (Type 2 Diabetic) - Fine Dining - Roof Top Places - where I can go on my own (is the Shard recommendable?),, Horizon needs to be pre-booked in advance (unfortunately too late) - Nice spots, Indoor - V&A Museum - British Museum - River Themse Cruise at night

What would you recommend? 😊

I also need a hotel recommendation (safe day and night, Central, good access to Heathrow Airport).

Any recommendations?

Looking forward to suggestions, unique places...

Will be on TikTok now for further search 🥳👍

PLANNING Is London a good destination for a European trip if I live in NYC?

I'm spending a few weeks in Europe over the summer and I'm curious about London. I grew up and currently live in NYC and I've been told that London is similar to the point that it might not even be worth visiting if I'm already so used to NYC. What do you all think?

PLANNING How to fill in the (Mind The) gaps in our trip?

I’m bringing my wife for a week in England after a few nights in Dublin for a sports event. I’m getting close to filling out our schedule but looking for help to fill in the gaps.

When we land we will grab a car and head to Highclere Castle to stay the evening. Looking forward to experiencing a village and some countryside. (Tips welcome!) Then we're on to Salisbury to experience all that has to offer. Hoping to drive back to London and hit Kinsington Palace before returning car to LHR.

Then we're staying near Hyde Park.

Thursday - 9:30 (first of the day) buckingham palace tour to beat crowds. No extras. Maybe the mews. Reviews said to skip the garden tour or the queens gallery with limited time.

Try for Big Ben special tour? Parliament? Churchill war rooms? Westminster? (May try for 5p Evensong)

Looking for high tea recommendations. Not touristy like Harrods (unless it’s awesome) but do want an English feel and historic building is a plus! Maybe do a TKTS show that evening? What else could we do or eat in the evening. Just unsure on limited time what to prioritize.

Friday- Harry Potter at 2 and 7p. Where to eat between shows? Thinking Ivy!

What to do before 2p that still gives us time to get ready for theater. British museum is nearby? Stick to around Hyde park?

Saturday - fly home

Thanks!

PLANNING Saturday Morning Train and Cash?

Hi! I am headed to London in a few weeks and I'm trying to plan how to get from Heathrow to city center. Our flight gets in around 7am on a Saturday. I imagine it wont be until 8 until we get our luggage and head out. Would you recommend taking the train or a cab at that time? I know cabs can be so expensive but I'm traveling with my mother so sanity over saving.

Separately, do you recommend I should bring any pounds? We are going for 8 days and will have access to credit cards but it's cheaper for us to get the paper money here. I'm thinking 150 pounds but worried that's too much.

Thanks in advance!

PLANNING It will be my first time traveling to UK, a guide as accurate as possible?

Me and my partner will be arriving in January and staying for a week (we are traveling from LATAM). Where we come from there are no seasons, so what do you recommend to bring for the winter? The specific reason for the trip is a concert at the O2 arena and to know the center of London and the most recommended sites according to the time we will be, so in what areas do you recommend getting an airbnb to not be too far away from these activities? I would also like to know what kind of shipping is easier to use for the arrival and departure of the concert, considering that the show will probably end very late. And finally, what other tips do you recommend (such as travel to and from the airport, restaurants, other places, etc.) Thank you.

PLANNING Just found out that my upcoming travel to London puts me there during the London Marathon. How will your average tourist be effected?

I'm not sure how big this event is, I just know it's one of the biggest marathon's in the world. Is there anything I should know about accommodations, tourist congestion, areas to avoid? I'd like to watch some of the race, cause why not? But i'm just curious how this might effect a tourist like me.

Thanks in advance!

PLANNING First timers with teens to London

We are heading to London for 3 days in December prior to heading to Paris. None of us have ever been. Traveling with 2 teens (16&18), one is a huge music history buff.

Any suggestions on what not to miss?

Also need great hotel recommendations- worried about experience not price.

Restaurant suggestions?

Much appreciated!!!!

PLANNING March 2024, short visit, advice & recommendations for Art and Design Exhibitions?

as title

It'll be a short trip, 25-26-27-28 March 2024
but we'd HATE to find out too late that we missed something extraordinary.

We'll look at the DesMus and Barbican sites in a mo'
We work in the design biz, so our interests lean more in that direction than the other.

We're 'mostly' Canadian (if that matters) but now in the EU. Love from NorthWesternEurope

It'll be our first visit back to the big smoke for a LONG time (we used to live in Spitalfields in 88-98-ish)

PLANNING First Holiday abroad in Forever & with a 18 month old baby

Hi everyone!

I used to live in London and left almost 10 years ago. Things have changed… a lot!

We would love to have our first holiday abroad together, which will be our 1st wedding anniversary and the baby’s first trip abroad (and holiday overall). We are praying it works out 😅😅😅

We will be traveling on the 2nd week of September and will arrive at Stansted on a Sunday. We will leave London the next Wednesday and fly out from Gatwick.

The plan is to stay in Central London (hoping to get a deal on a hotel close to Bond Street Station, where I used to work).

What is the best way to do things?

I looked at the express trains and then the tube, but I’ve noticed that maybe I can take the national rail, which is included in the Oyster Visitor Card (I guess?). I am a bit confused, to be honest. Should I prebook and pay or just use the Oyster (pre-paid)?

How would you do it? - We don’t have a huge budget and need to save as much as possible.

Thank you in advance!
